Jolie pov

I woke up to chaos.

Someone was hammering outside my window as music blasted from the garage. People shouted back and forth across the compound.

I checked my phone. Two in the afternoon. I'd slept fourteen hours.

My door opened. Luna came in carrying clothes and a huge grin.

"You're awake," she said, tossing the clothes on my bed. "Good. We've got six hours until the ceremony and a lot to do."

"Six hours?" I sat up too fast as my head spun.

"Ryder moved it up. Again," Luna explained, opening my closet and pulling things out. "Apparently some Council observers showed up in town this morning. We need you officially mated before they can file any injunctions."

The words took a moment to process. "They're trying to stop it?" I asked, my voice coming out smaller than I wanted.

"Gio's playing every card he has," Luna said, holding up a black dress. She considered it for a moment, then tossed it aside. "But once you're mated and the paperwork's filed, he's out of moves. You'll be

Jolie pov "Possible." Doc leans closer. "But more likely, she's been trained to suppress emotion. The Council had programs for that—teaching wolves to control their reactions until they became automatic.""Why would they do that?" Cass frowns."To create perfect soldiers. Perfect spies." Luna's voice is grim. "Wolves who could infiltrate packs without emotional tells. Who could make cold, logical decisions without empathy getting in the way.""You think Celeste is one of those?" Ryder asks."I think she's exactly what the Council would create if they wanted a weapon that looked like a bride." Luna pulls up more files. "The Whitmore Pack has Council connections going back three generations. Gregory Whitmore served on special Council committees. Celeste was educated at Council-approved academies. Everything about her screams program participant.""So my father is marrying a Council plant." I process this. "Someone designed to infiltrate our family and gain access to me.""That's the th

Jolie POVI wake to find Ryder already dressed, standing at the window with his phone pressed to his ear."I don't care what it costs." His voice is tight. "I want everything you can find on Celeste Whitmore and her family. Everything."I sit up, and he glances over. He holds up one finger—just a minute."Medical records if you can get them." He continues. "School transcripts, psychological evaluations, anything that explains why a twenty-five-year-old woman has never shown emotion in public." He listens. "Good, send it to Luna's secure server."He ends the call and crosses to the bed. "Morning.""Who was that?" I ask."Private investigator, a former FBI." He sits beside me. "If there's dirt on Celeste Whitmore, he'll find it.""You're really worried about this wedding.""Your father is marrying a woman with Council connections three months after hiring someone to destroy our bond?" He raises an eyebrow. "Yeah, I'm worried."I can't argue with that logic. "What time is it?""Almost no

Ryder POVJolie falls asleep during the strategy meeting. One moment she's studying Luna's files on Celeste Whitmore, the next her head drops against my shoulder, breathing deep and even. I catch her laptop before it slides off her lap."She's exhausted." Doc keeps his voice low. "The empathy work with Morgan, even unintentional, drains her divine power. She needs rest.""The meeting's over." I stand carefully, lifting Jolie in my arms. She doesn't even stir. "We'll pick this up tomorrow."Luna closes her tablet. "Get her to bed, we have time before the wedding."I carried Jolie to our room, her light dimmed to barely a glow. She's so light in my arms, so delicate, and yet I've watched her bring down Council Elders and break professional manipulators. The contrast never stops surprising me.I settle her on the bed, pulling off her boots and covering her with blankets. She curls into the pillows, still deeply asleep. My wolf stirs restlessly. We almost lost her to the seeds Morgan plan

Jolie POV"No." I crouch down to her level. "You don't get the easy way out. You're going to live with this. You're going to feel every moment of pain you caused, and you're going to use it.""Use it?" She stares at me."To be better." I hold her gaze. "You said you'd spend your life making amends. So do it. Find the bonds you broke and try to fix them. Help the wolves you hurt, use this empathy you never had before to actually understand the damage you caused and work to repair it.""That's not mercy." Her voice is hollow. "That's a life sentence of suffering.""That's justice." Phoenix moves to stand beside me. "My cousin's name is cleared because everyone knows you stole it. But the people you actually hurt—they deserve more than just knowing you failed once. They deserve to see you try to fix what you broke.""I can't fix all of it." She's shaking now. "Some of those bonds are permanently destroyed. Some of those wolves died broken.""Then you carry that too." Luna's voice is firm

Jolie pov "No." I step around Ryder to face her directly. "I'll know that you were a professional liar who tried to exploit my trauma and failed. That's all you'll ever be in my memory—a failed attack that made us stronger."She walks past me toward the door, then pauses. "For what it's worth, little Luna, you're tougher than I expected. Under different circumstances, I might have actually liked you.""I'll never know." I hold her gaze. "Because you chose to be someone who destroys things instead of building them. That's on you, not the circumstances."She leaves without another word. We watch from the doorway as she crosses to where a motorcycle waits—not one of ours, something she must have arranged earlier."Think she'll actually leave?" Phoenix asks quietly."Knox put trackers on that bike." Luna taps her tablet. "If she tries to come back, we'll know immediately.""She won't come back." I lean against Ryder. "She's a professional. She failed here, and now everyone knows how she

  • Claimed By The Biker Alpha   Chapter 116 - Confronting the Truth

Jolie POVThe woman who stole Phoenix's cousin's name has exactly forty-seven minutes left in Iron Fang's territory.I watch from the compound steps as Cass and Knox head toward the guest cabin where she's packing. Ryder stands beside me, his hand warm against the small of my back."You sure you don't want to go with them?" He asks quietly."No." I lean into his touch. "She doesn't get any more of my energy. She had her chance to leave quietly but she chose to stay and keep trying.""She's probably expecting a dramatic confrontation." Luna joins us, her tablet tucked under her arm. "One last scene where she can play victim or try to twist the knife.""Then she'll be disappointed." I square my shoulders. "I'm done being manipulated."Phoenix appears from the direction of the common room, his face still pale but determined. "I want to say goodbye. To tell her what she did—using Seraphina's name—was unforgivable.""You don't owe her anything." Ryder's voice is firm."I know." Phoenix me
