Damon

I watch her walk off.

Something is definitely up with her. In all the weeks she’s spent here, in this house, she’s never wandered out to this part of the estate. She’s always either locked up in her room, quiet as a shadow, or bickering with Eunice over which vase belongs in which hallway. Never this.

But tonight, she walked with purpose. Not angry. Not storming off. Just quiet. Deliberate. It throws me off.

The second I caught sight of her slipping through the glass doors that lead to the garden, something in me reacted. Instinct, maybe. Habit, maybe worse. My legs moved before my brain finished forming the question: What the hell is she doing out there?

She didn’t answer me. Not really. The usual retorts, the pushbacks. But this time, it didn’t feel like she was pushing me away just for sport. Something else is sitting beneath the surface.

She’s hiding something.

And the maddening part?

I can’t tell what.

But, how hard could it be to spill?

'Spill? To you?' the voice in my hea

DamonIt’s dark when I wake up. My body feels like lead, the room’s quiet, and for a second, I forget what day it is. What time. Then it hits me.I sit up fast, heart kicking in my chest, and reach for my phone on the nightstand.5:48 PM.Not yet, still. Can this day take any longer?I dial Leo immediately.“Good evening, boss,” he answers.“Leo. Hope you're fully recovered now?” I ask.“Yes, boss. Fully recovered.”“Good. We might’ve found something. A tail on where they could be keeping her. I need you to put a team together—fifteen men, minimum. No deadweight.”“Understood. Where are we heading out from?”“Kingsley’s. Be here before 7 a.m.”“Yes, boss.”I hang up and climb out of bed, heading down the hallway, and Kingsley's in the kitchen, naturally.“Always cooking.”He glances over. “Man’s gotta eat. Tomorrow’s either fight or fight. You in?.”“Nah. Thanks.”I lean against the wall, arms folded.“What’d you do with your other guest?” I ask, nodding toward the hallway.“You mean

  • Claimed By The Billionaire   Chapter 146 - What Hope Means

AriaIt’s been another twenty-four hours since the dots started connecting. Since my gut began screaming what my heart still refuses to accept. Since that flicker of recognition burned through me and lit up a truth I’ve been trying not to see.But I really hope I’m wrong.I really, really hope I’m wrong. Then again, the voice in my head won’t stop whispering, “But you’re not.”And that’s the problem. Because it doesn’t feel like I am.All I need is a glimpse of his face. Just one clear look to confirm. But I already know. I know in the same way you know a storm is coming, even before the sky turns. It’s the way he moves. The tension in his voice. The tone that tiptoes around guilt. And worse? The mark on his hand. That scar. It’s him.And if I’m right, then I don’t even know what hope is anymore. The woman's voice slices through the silence outside my door. She's pacing again. Talking on the phone. "Any sightings on the target?"Target? My stomach twists. Then, more clearly: "You’re s

Damon Ava keeps smiling, eyes locked on me like she’s just revealed a huge secret.I narrow my gaze. "I do, actually."She nods, still smiling.I snap, "Why's that look stuck on your face?""Nothing," she shrugs, still grinning. "It's just... new territory. You? like this?"I glare. "Like what? Speak up or shut up, Ava. No one's making small talk with you."She hesitates for a second, swallows, then says, "I just figured she'd gotten you wrapped around her finger. Because since I walked in here, you've said more words to me, than you did all the while we spent together."I scoff, leaning forward slightly. "You sound like we were around each other for more than a couple of months. It was never anything serious, Ava. You always reeked of greed and always needed to be seen, and that's not my thing. Plus, you stole from me. In that little time, I entrusted my money with you, and you went ahead and did your thing. You freaking disappeared with it."Her smile fades. "I'm sorry. There's rea

DamonShe coughs. “Please. I need water.”I don’t move at first. Because I really don’t care, and everything in me is still trying to wrap itself around the fact that she’s really here, spewing shit. Making excuses. She coughs, dry and raspy, like she hasn’t had a drop in hours.“Damon. Please,” she manages.I nod toward the kitchen. “Fridge.”My eyes never leave her as she gets up and walks over, still a little shaky, probably from the weight of guilt or exhaustion or both. She pulls the handle. Then she screams.I shoot up. “What the hell, Ava?! Why are you screaming?!”She doesn't respond right away. Just stands there, frozen, then finally swallows and points toward the hallway.I follow her line of sight—and jolt back.“Jesus. Kingsley. What the hell?”He steps forward, hands tucked in his pockets, and a grin tugging at his lips.“Sorry, man. I’ve been rooted there since the minute I stepped out.”I let out a breath and drop back onto the couch. “You scared me, man. I was about to

  • Claimed By The Billionaire   Chapter 143 - A Reckoning Long Overdue

DamonI don’t even realize how tightly I’ve been clenching my fists until I feel my nails digging into my palms.Ava scrambles toward me, desperation written all over her face. Her fingers wrap around my leg like she thinks clinging to me will somehow reverse everything that’s happened.“Please. What do we do?”What do we do?I kick her off me without thinking, the fury rolling through me like wildfire.“We? You’ll be locked up in this house. In cuffs. Till I get her back. And even then. You won’t go free.”She swallows hard, her throat visibly tensing. “Alright. But please, how can I help?”I don’t answer right away. I walk over to the couch and drop into it, not because I’m tired, but because I need to separate myself from Ava's chaos of the last fifteen minutes. I need space from her. From the fact that she’s even here.I nod toward the opposite couch. “Sit.”She gets up from the floor and perches delicately, like the weight of her guilt won’t let her sit fully. She's latching tigh

DamonIt hits me like a brick to the skull.Ava.In Kingsley's living room. What the actual fuck.I don’t even have time to process it before my body moves on instinct. I lunge forward, grab her by the wrists and yank her further into the room, I don't even let her catch her breath before I storm back to the door. I pull it open and check both sides of the street. It's still empty and dead quiet.Better.If there was someone else with her, they're lucky they didn’t hang around, because they wouldn't leave unscathed.I slam the door behind me so hard it rattles the hinges. Then, I lock it. Snatch the key and shove it into my pocket. She winces as I drag her, but I don’t care. Pain is the least she deserves right now."Start talking!" I bark. She drops to her knees, hands up like that’s going to do a damn thing. “Please, Damon, just listen. I can explain. It wasn’t supposed to get this far.”The sound of her voice alone makes my skin crawl. She's here. She's real. And she has the audaci
