Jet's POV

We barely made it out alive.

The place we ran from still burned in my memory—the demon's fire, its voice, its power. My hands throbbed, the skin blistered and raw. The pain wasn't just on the outside; it crawled through my veins and gnawed at my spirit.

Lily stayed close to me, her voice shaky but kind. "You'll be alright, Jet. Just stay with me."

I gritted my teeth. "Words won’t fix this."

I didn't mean to snap at her. I was angry—but not at her. I was angry at myself. I had promised to keep us safe. And now, I could barely stand.

She nodded, sadness in her eyes. "Then let me try something else."

She knelt beside me and placed her hands over my wounds. A soft, golden light began to shine. Her magic was fading, and I could feel how much effort it cost her to use it.

"Don’t," I whispered. "You need your strength."

"You need it more," she said simply.

Warmth spread through me. The burning faded a little. The pain dulled, but her face had gone pale.
