Lucian’s POVThe crystal tumbler explodes in my hand.Shards pierce into my palm as bourbon mixed with blood, dripping onto the polished mahogany desk in my France office. I barely noticed.Around the conference table, every board member goes silent. Fear spread across their faces before a single word was spoken. The air turns icy. Darkness burst beneath my skin, racing through the room with enough force to split the plaster walls. The windows begins to rattle with so much force, it makes the board members tremble in their seats. The bond.It isn’t complete. Ayla doesn’t know we are mates yet, and she hasn’t accepted me. She hasn’t marked me in this lifetime. But the thread binding our souls never disappears. It tightens without warning.Pain tears through it. Not mine. Hers. Ayla.“Mr Vane?” my director asks, his voice shaking. “What’s happening?”“Leave.”The word comes out rough, more growl than speech. No one argued. Chairs scrapes across the floor as they rush for the exits.I d

Ayla’s POVMy breath stops.“How do you know her name?” I whisper. The towel in my hands was still damp from my shower. I grip it so tightly my fingers ache.“How do you know about Nova?”Lucian doesn’t answer right away. One hand rests against the wall beside my head, blocking the only path out of the bathroom. His eyes never leave mine.“Did you think you could keep her a secret from me?” he asks quietly.A chill creeps over my skin. “I knew the moment she surfaced .”My heart begins pounding violently. The room suddenly felt too small.Nova.I try to reach for her the way I always did through the mind-link.…Nova?… Please... answer me……How does he know you?…Nothing. Not even a whisper. The silence inside my mind feels heavier than before.Lucian watches my expression change. A humorless smile crosses his face. “She isn’t going to answer you.”His voice is calm. “Ask her why she’s hiding.”He tilts his head slightly.“Ask her why she goes quiet every time I’m near.”“Stop.” The wo

Ayla’s POVWhen I wake up, the first thing I hear is the low hum of an engine. For a few seconds, I don’t move.My head feels heavy, and every part of my body aches. Then everything comes rushing back. The campus. Elena. The wolves. The silver fire. Lucian. My eyes widen in terror. I stare at the ceiling above me, confused. This isn’t my room. I push myself up too quickly and immediately regret it. My head spins.“Slow down.”I freeze instantly. Lucian. He’s sitting across from me. He looks like he hasn’t slept properly in days. His dark hair is slightly messy, his shirt sleeves are rolled up, and there’s a tablet resting in one hand. But he isn’t looking at it. He’s staring at me.I swallow hard. “Where am I?”“On my plane.”My eyes widen. “What?”“You heard me,” he responds.I look around the small bedroom. A private plane. I’m actually on a private plane.“How long have I been asleep?” I ask.Lucian’s face doesn’t change. “Two days.”My heart sinks. “Two days?”“Yes.”I look down a

Ayla’s POVNova’s roar shakes my entire body. Something inside me breaks. Not slowly. Not gently. One second, I’m lying on the grass, waiting for the wolf to tear into my throat. The next, Nova’s voice fills my head.…WAKE UP!…It doesn’t sound weak anymore. It sounds strong. Angry. I open my eyes, the wolf is already in the air above me, its jaws wide open. But I’m not afraid. Something has changed. My body, which had felt too weak to move only seconds ago, suddenly feels full of energy. Heat rushes through my arms and legs. My hands stop shaking.I raise my right hand, then I snap my fingers. A loud boom shakes the path. Silver fire bursts from my body.It spreads across the ground in a wide wave, catching the wolf before it can reach me. The creature disappears inside the flames. There isn’t even time for it to cry out. When the fire clears, nothing is left but a pile of gray ash. The other two wolves stop. Their growls die in their throats. They stare at me. For the first time, th

Ayla’s POVThe next few days melt together. Every morning, I’m taken to Lucian’s office. Every night, I’m taken somewhere worse. The routine never changes. During the day, I sit on that same couch beneath Lucian’s watchful eye while he works. At midnight, he takes me underground and makes me watch him become something I can barely bring myself to call a man.The Lycan. The thing that comes out of him at night is enormous and terrifying, and I’ve seen what happens to the people unlucky enough to cross his territory.I don’t sleep properly anymore. I barely eat.Whatever food Lucian forces me to swallow is usually all I manage. Most days, even that feels impossible. My clothes are hanging loosely on my body. My legs shake when I stand. Sometimes I catch myself staring at the wall for minutes without realizing it.I feel like I’m disappearing piece by piece. On Friday morning, something unexpected happens.Lucian lets me go to campus. Alone. Well — not exactly alone. His guards follow m

Ayla’s POV The air in the room went still as I stared at my father’s lifeless body, an unreadable expression on my face. I refused to cry. I refused to give the pack the satisfaction of seeing me vulnerable—like they had always called me. Worthless. Weak. Disgrace. “He is gone my lady. My cond
