KAZIMIR

The scent of wolfsbane and gun oil clung to the air as I strode through the weapons room. My brothers moved like extensions of my own will, Lev filling syringes with lethal precision, Nikolai loading silver rounds with that fucking grin of his, Dimitri already melting into the shadows without needing orders.

"Perimeter?" I snapped.

Lev didn't look up from his vials. "Sealed. For now."

Nikolai spun his pistol. "Let them come. I'm bored anyways. It's been a while since we got some action."

I grabbed his shoulder, fingers digging in hard enough to bruise. "This isn't a game. If Malhorn manages to get past us..."

"He won't." Dimitri's voice slithered from the darkness near the windows. "But she's the weak link. You have to make sure she doesn't cause any trouble."

My wolf snarled at the implication. I stormed upstairs, taking them two at a time.

The bedroom door creaked open to reveal Ariel backed against the far wall, her hands curled into fists as she stared outside the window. Moonlight caught the defiant set of her jaw, the wild flare of her nostrils.

"Stay here," I ordered. "Don't make a sound."

Her laugh was sharp as broken glass. "Or what? You'll kill me yourself?"

I crossed the room in three strides, caging her against the wall. Her scent, vanilla with a slight hint of lavender, flooded my senses. "If they get to you first," I growled against her ear, "you'll beg me to kill you."

Her pulse jumped beneath my lips. "Worry about yourself. I think they're already here."

A crash shattered the moment. The front gates groaned under the assault.

I was at the window in an instant. "They're here."

Ariel's breath hitched. She walked back to the bed as if nothing had happened and sat on it.

"The fun has just started!" Nikolai called from the doorway, his knives glinting.

I shoved past him. "Keep her alive. That's your job."

The first wave hit like a storm. Malhorn wolves poured through the shattered gates, their snarls drowning out the gunfire. I put a bullet between the eyes of the first one to breach the courtyard.

"Left flank!" Lev shouted, driving a syringe into a wolf's neck. The beast collapsed, foaming at the mouth.

Nikolai fought like a demon, his blades painting crimson arcs through the night. Until two massive enforcers pinned him against the fountain.

I lunged, ripping out one's throat with my teeth just as...

A flash of movement upstairs. Ariel. I turned to look.

The little fool was using the distraction to climb out of her window.

I lost precious seconds watching her drop onto the balcony, her movements too graceful for some stripper. Who the hell was she? Who trained her?

A snarl to my right. I barely dodged the claws aiming for my jugular.

"Eyes open, Kaz!" Nikolai laughed, blood dripping from his lip ring.

I dispatched the attacker with a silver round to the heart and charged after Ariel.

She'd gotten hold of a knife. Of course, she had.

When a Malhorn wolf lunged for her, she pivoted like a seasoned killer, the blade flashing toward his artery. I got there first, snapping the bastard's neck with a wet crack.

"Reckless little..." I hauled her behind a crumbling pillar, my hand clamping over her mouth. "Do you want to die?"

Her teeth sank into my palm. "Get away from me!!!"

The scent of her fear, sharp and sweet, made my cock twitch. Fuck.

Dimitri materialised beside us, dragging a half dead werewolf. "Answers."

The interrogation didn't take long.

"What does your boss want?" I asked him.

"We had intel that a woman he's been looking for for the past few months was here. We had no idea it was your territory, Mr Rossi." The prisoner trembled.

I listened to his heartbeat. He spoke true. If he had known it was my territory or if they had done proper research beforehand, they wouldn't have had the galls to step into my land like that guns blazing.

"And why are you looking for her?"

The prisoner looked at Ariel and then at me.

"She has something he needs. Our boss has been chasing her for the past few months now."

"And what does he want? Her blood?! When did your boss become a bloodsucking vamp?!" Nikolai asked, and the prisoner shook his head.

"Our boss didn't send us for her blood," the prisoner gasped. "He wants her womb."

Nikolai's knife stilled at the man's throat. "Come again?"

"Blood Moon Brides birth unstoppable heirs," Lev murmured, adjusting his glasses. "Her value just tripled."

My vision went red. The thought of anyone....

Ariel's whimper cut through the rage. Nikolai had her wrist in a vice grip, his thumb stroking her racing pulse.

"Who trained you, little wolf? The way you moved..." he purred.

She kicked at him. "Fuck you."

Lev caught her other arm, his clinical gaze dissecting her reactions. "Military training? What do you think Kaz?"

I ripped her away from them. "Enough."

Ariel trembled in my hold, her breath coming in sharp pants. Moonlight gilded the sweat slick column of her throat. My teeth ached to claim it.

"Let me go," she whispered. "I don't want to be here, please just let me go!"

"You don't even want me!" She screamed at me.

Dimitri stepped from the shadows, blood dripping from his gloves. "That's where you're wrong."

Nikolai licked his lips. "Oh, we want you. Just not the way you think."

Lev's fingers twitched toward his scalpel. "The mating mark would deter other packs for the moment. It'll save you all the hassle."

Ariel's eyes widened. "You wouldn't dare."

I fisted her hair, tilting her head back. "Watch me."

The first howl of the next attack cut through the night. Closer this time.

Dimitri met my gaze. "They're not stopping."

I dragged Ariel against my chest, my mouth hovering over her mating gland. "Then we make sure they know exactly what she is."

"Mine."

ARIEL "Of course." She smiled. "What about?""You need to tone it down."Her smile flickered. "Excuse me?""All of it. The touching. The laughing. The acting like you're already my Luna." I stepped closer, my voice low. "I'm playing along for the council's sake. But I'm not your mate. And I'm not going to pretend to be."She stared at me. "You don't mean that.""I mean every word.""The council..." "The council doesn't control me. I control the council." I leaned closer. "I'm the Alpha. And I could cancel our arrangement at any time. Remember that."Her face went pale. Then her mask slipped back into place. "Of course, Kazimir. I understand.""Do you?""Perfectly."She walked away. I watched her go.-———————I tried to find Ariel. The pack house was sprawling with people who had arrived for the celebration. I didn't know what room Ariel or Evie would be but I doubted she'd be in my own room. I searched everywhere. I finally found her in Evie's room. The door was cracked open, and I

ARIEL I knew what he was asking. Not just about the summit, about what we'd done. What we'd shared. I could see flashbacks in my head. "I'm not ready," I said. "Besides, what's there to talk about? I already told you, it won't happen again." He nodded slowly. "I'm not asking you to talk about it now. We can talk about it later. And yes, it will happen again."I opened my mouth, but promptly closed it. I had no response to what he said. He smirked, he looked like he was gloating. "I have to check the perimeter," he said. "Do you want to come?"Being alone with Kazimir? I didn't think so. I shook my head. "I have to take a shower." Back at my room, Evie was making a list.It was on a piece of paper that was covered in her messy handwriting, crayon scribbles that were supposed to be words. She'd listed everything she needed for school: backpack, pencils, water bottle, snack, friend.I looked at the last one."Friend?""Uh-huh. I'm going to make a friend. On the first day." She nodd

  • Claimed By The Wolf Kings   71 That Night

ARIELI woke up without Kazimir on my bed. The sheets were cold on the other side. The pillow still held the faint imprint of his head, but the warmth was gone, replaced by the chill of morning. I reached out, my fingers brushing the fabric, and felt the absence like a physical ache.I shouldn't have missed him. I'd spent ten years sleeping alone, running alone, surviving alone. I didn't need a man’s warmth. I didn't want it.But I did.I wanted his.I lay there for a moment, staring at the ceiling, remembering the way he'd held me at the summit. The way his arms had wrapped around me, the way his breath had been warm on my hair, the way I'd slept through the night without a single nightmare. Then I pushed myself up, swung my legs over the side of the bed, and forced myself to move.Evie was still asleep when I checked on her. She was curled around her stuffed rabbit, the gray stone from Nikolai on her nightstand, her face peaceful in the soft glow of the crescent moon nightlight. I

  • Claimed By The Wolf Kings   Chapter 70 Scientific evidence

ARIEL ARIEL The estate came into view like a promise.I pressed my forehead against the car window, watching the familiar stone walls rise out of the darkness. The windows were lit with warm golden light. Smoke curled from the chimneys. Somewhere inside, Evie was waiting for me.I hadn't let myself think about her during the drive. Hadn't let myself imagine what it would be like to hold her again, to hear her voice, to feel her small arms around my neck. I couldn't. It was all too much to think about. But now we were here. And she was inside. The car had barely stopped before I was out of the door.I heard her before I saw her, that small, delighted shriek that always made my heart ache. Then she was running across the foyer, her hair flying behind her, her arms outstretched."Mama!"I dropped to my knees. She crashed into me, her small body colliding with mine, her arms wrapping around my neck. I held her so tight I was probably hurting her, but I couldn't let go."Baby. My baby."

KAZIMIR I kissed her again. This time, there was no hesitation. Her hands found the buttons of my shirt, fumbling with them, her breath hot against my neck. I reached behind her, finding the zipper of her dress, and pulled it down slowly. She shivered as the fabric loosened. I pushed it off her shoulders, watching it fall, watching her emerge from it like a goddess from the sea.She stood before me in nothing but a thin slip of silk, her seductive curves and the swell of her breasts were hard to miss, especially when her nipples stood erect, her skin flushed, her eyes bright with wanting."Your turn," she whispered. She pulled my shirt over my head, her hands exploring my chest, my shoulders, my back. Her touch was electric, leaving trails of fire wherever she went.I lifted her, carried her to the bed. She wrapped her legs around my waist, pulling me closer, her mouth finding my neck, my collarbone, my chest.I laid her down on the sheets. She looked up at me, her raven black hair s

KAZIMIR KAZIMIR The day ahead was full of politics, the final ceremony, the closing remarks, the endless handshakes and empty promises. But there was one thing I needed to do first.Marcus Volk had requested a private meeting after the breakfast ceremony.I found him in the library, standing by the fire, a glass of whiskey in his hand. He looked up when I entered, his face unreadable."Kazimir. Thank you for coming.""You said it was urgent.""It is." He gestured to the chair across from him. "Sit."I sat.Marcus didn't immediately speak. He swirled his whiskey, stared into the flames, and seemed to be choosing his words carefully."I have a proposition for you," he said finally. "A business proposition. From an interested party.""Who?""I'm not at liberty to say that yet.” "Then I'm not interested."Marcus smiled. "I thought you might say that. Which is why I'm going to tell you enough to pique your interest, but not enough to satisfy your curiosity."I leaned back in my chair. "

ARIEL I woke to warmth. Not the cold of the mountain estate. Not the chill of the stone walls or the draft from the window. Something else. Something that pressed against my back and wrapped around my waist and breathed slow and even against my hair.I opened my eyes. The room was still dark, gray

ARIEL The great hall was still full when I returned.People were still talking and dining, a few eyes looked at me as I came in, I didn't care. ARIEL The world stopped.I'd heard that phrase before, read it in books, heard it in songs, dismissed it as the kind of melodrama that didn't happen in real life. But standing there, in that glittering hall, surrounded by wolves in their finest clothes, the world stopped.Malhorn.He was standing
