Chapter 8

I shielded the pups, inching toward the door without a sound.

"I'm taking back what's mine. You screwed up. You should pay," I hissed.

Lily's eyes burned pure hate. "You should've died! If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be like this!"

Before her words even faded, she flashed at me, claws gleaming like knives.

I barely shifted my stance, but it wasn't enough. Three burning gashes tore across my shoulder.

Blood gushed down my arm, soaking my sleeve. I raised my claws, blocking the next blow.

"Stop! Don't do this!"

But Lily was already gone, slashing wild.

The pups screamed.

"Don't hurt my teacher!" John howled.

He shifted—pure white lightning—and launched straight at Lily's gut.

"John, no!"

Shifting before eighteen could wreck his whole future—and he threw it all away for me.

Tears burned my eyes.

Before I could move, Lily locked onto him, grinning like a psycho. "Good. Come at me, brat. I'll rip your throat out first."

She shot forward, claws raised to kill.

My heart seiz
