Asher’s POV

The doors swung inward and ground against the stone floor like something old and heavy forcing itself open.

I took a breath, smoothed the front of my crimson tunic, and stepped over the threshold into the Great Hall of the Western Citadel.

The size of the place hit me harder than I expected. The ceiling stretched so high the upper rafters disappeared into thick pine smoke rising from iron braziers all along the walls.

Banners hung between the arches, dusty and huge. The obsidian cro

  • Claimed by Alpha Xorax and his sons   The King’s Decree

Asher’s POVAlpha Xorax held the golden chalice near his lips and kept those golden eyes locked on mine for a long moment that made the whole High Table feel too small. The silence stretched until it hurt. Nobody moved. Nobody breathed right. The wine he had almost drunk still sat dark in the cup, and my thumb still remembered the shape of the hilt under my cuff even though I had never drawn it.Then he set the cup down. Soft click. That was all it took for the room to know the feast was over.“Call the High Council,” Xorax said. “The opening feast is concluded. The lords will gather in the inner chamber immediately.”His gaze shifted to Kaelen, then back to me. “And bring the boy. He stays with the court.”A low anxious murmur rolled through the lords at the tables below. I felt every stare. Shock. Outrage. Someone whispered under their breath. Someone else cursed soft enough that only the people next to them heard it.Kaelen’s chest lifted with that sudden ambitious heat he got wh

  • Claimed by Alpha Xorax and his sons   The Serpent’s Pour

Asher’s POV“Is something on your mind?” King Xorax asked again, still looking at me, reading the tight line of my jaw like he already knew the answer and just wanted to hear me lie. Shadow magic stirred under his boots and sent a thin thread of mist across the floor. It brushed the hem of my trousers and crept up my skin until I wanted to step back and couldn’t.The dark aura pushed at me. It felt like a hand reaching into my chest, hunting for why my pulse was slamming so hard against my ribs after that whole false kill had played out behind my eyes and left me sitting here still, pale, with a dagger I hadn’t drawn.“He is simply overwhelmed, Father,” Kaelen said fast, hand tightening on my knee under the table. He leaned in and put himself between me and that crushing presence. “Asher has never stood before a High King. He is a wolfless boy from the low courts. The hall caught him off guard, that is all.”Xorax still didn’t look away from me. A faint smirk touched the corner of h

  • Claimed by Alpha Xorax and his sons   My Revenge

Asher’s POV“I am not feeble,” I said.My voice cut through the quiet of the hall harder than I meant it to. Beside me Kaelen reached out and tightened his fingers around my wrist until it hurt. “Asher, sit down,” he warned in a harsh whisper that only I was supposed to hear.I did not sit. I pulled my wrist from his grip and kept my eyes locked on King Xorax, because if I looked away now I would never get the words out again.“If I were feeble, I would never have ridden Boreas,” I said, standing my ground step by step. “A weak man would have died in that arena. I did not die. I sat on that beast’s back while your whole court watched.”Xorax did not move. He did not blink. He just stared at me, his eyes cold and silent as a grave, like my defiance was entertainment he had already priced and found cheap.Across the table Vaelin slammed his palm down onto the wood. Plates rattled. Wine spilled over silver chalices and ran dark across the oak. “Tame your bloody slave, Kaelen!” he shouted

  • Claimed by Alpha Xorax and his sons   Face to Face

Asher’s POVKing Alpha Xorax didn’t just walk down the stone catwalk. He glided. Black mist of shadow magic pooled under his iron boots and swirled with every slow step, like the air itself was rising to carry his weight.I held my breath. My fingers dug into the velvet of my trousers. In my head I had always pictured a monster. Scarred. Withered. A twisted old tyrant whose ugliness matched the magic he used when he tore my wolf out of me years ago.I was wrong. When Xorax stepped onto the high dais and the torchlight caught his face, my heart stopped. He didn’t look like a dying king. He looked like a third brother to Vaelin and Kaelen, a High Alpha frozen in his absolute prime. He had Vaelin’s sharp jaw and Kaelen’s dark striking features, but his skin held a pale marble sheen untouched by sun. Black hair spilled over a collar of bear fur. His eyes were a terrifying shade of gold that burned like twin dying stars. So this is him, I thought, bitter ice flooding my veins as I locked

The obsidian crow of House Vane, the silver wolf of the Frost-Spire, and above everything else the golden lion of the Crimson dynasty. Hundreds of High Alphas, warlords, and court nobles were seated along the long oak tables down the aisle. Wolf-pelt cloaks. Iron on their clothes. Silver crowns. There was laughter, boasts, and goblets slamming against the wood. Roasted boar, venison, dark winter ale. The whole room smelled like a feast thrown by people who had never lost a war.The second my boots hit the ce

  • Claimed by Alpha Xorax and his sons   The King’s Last Night

Asher’s POVKaelen walked me all the way back to the servants’ wing. His hand stayed on my back the whole time. Every footstep echoed off the vaulted stone. Stewards stopped mid-task. Guards stared. Scullery maids pressed themselves against the walls and watched us pass in silence. A High Alpha prince walking a wolfless slave through the Citadel, wearing a custom crimson silks was not something this court was used to seeing, and the quiet that followed us felt thick enough to choke on.At the threshold of the lower quarters he stopped and turned to face me.“Get some rest, Asher,” he said, soft. “Tomorrow is the festival. The entire court will see where you truly belong.”Then he turned on his heel. The crimson mantle snapped behind him as he disappeared into the upper hall shadows, and I was alone again. The next morning I didn’t leave my room, and for some reason, Count Malakor didn’t send for me. Lyra was nowhere to be seen, and everyone was already busy with preparationsHours pa
