Valen sat in the meeting room, staring at the reports in front of him. His elders and advisers were talking, but their words sounded far away. His mind was too heavy.

One month. That was all the time the council had given him to fix both the security and financial problems of the pack.

One month to solve what felt like an impossible mess.

“We are losing more families every week,” Elder Marcus said. “And the treasury… it’s almost empty.”

Valen’s jaw tightened. “I already know,” he said flatly.
