Chapter 10

Amber POV 

“I asked a question, and you haven’t answered. Why the pause? Have you had sex with him?”

“The contract has its ordeal,s and being his woman in all areas is expected of me, so I’d have to sleep with him,” I responded gladly after searching for the right words to say to her. 

“So you’ve got to sleep with a man?”

“Yes, for half a million dollars, because this would make me so happy,y because I’ve suffered enough,gh and I want to create my own path in the stock market. With half a million, I’d be able to navigate through the crowd and be one of the best.” I sat down on the sofa and tried to relax because this isn’t one of those sweet days. 

“You have to continue with the deal. Go back to his house and continue playing the role of Suzy, and at the end, get what you want and leave.” She agreed and couldn’t shake off the smile on her face because she knew how large the reward was. 

“So you’re going to be a public figure. Are you ready for all the attractions? You’d have to look twice at what you’d wear and what you’d say because a lot of people would be waiting for your flaws.” She patted my thighs before sitting close to me.  

“This is me,e and whoever doesn’t like me, as this should go to hell. I’m going to do whatever I want and whenever I want, and no one is going to obstruct that because Alpha Enzo is my man.” I boasted about it because he was in every magazine; he’s like the king of businessmen.

“So have you met…”

“We had a meeting with an Alpha, and it was amazing because I stopped him from making a wrong investment,t and at the same time, I also helped the Alpha because his board was stealing funds from his company,” I told her of my experience at the meeting. 

“I made dinner.”

“Alright, what is on the menu?” I conceded to her words. 

“It’s pasta and fried beef chops. You’d enjoy it properly because this is…”

“Your signature dish. It’s your favorite, and you know I love it.” I completed the sentence for her.

I went into the room, pulled off my dress, and went into the washroom. I wore my robe and strolled out to see that she had already set up the table. 

She prepared a meal, yet she waited for me to return from work before she would eat. 

“You waited for me?”

“I have to, or else you wouldn’t have a meal waiting for you., I don’t want to finish up the meal.” She smiled and then pushed out the chair for me, acting like a gentleman on a date. 

“When you get the reward as we envisioned, you’d give me a part of it, right?” She inquired. 

Her question made me laugh so hard because I realized the reason why she pulled out the chair for me to sit. 

“Can you cope with that kind of handsomeness? He’s too hot for me, I can’t deny that.” She replied, displaying his online pictures to me.  

I haven’t even checked that, but she’s all over him, practically drooling over him. 

“I can cope with him; he’s not as hard as you all think. Everyone is scared of him at work, but I’m not.” I chortled before having my first taste of the meal. 

“How did you bond with him without stress?” She asked before going to pick up the jug from the living room. 

“It’s nature. Ryan’s divorce opened my eyes to a lot. Trust me, Enzo is way more important than Ryan in every way. He can’t measure up to ENZO’s success.” 

“Ryan is nothing compared to that man. If you eventually get closer to this man, you’d have enough to put that idiot in his place for good. He’s nothing but a charade; he thinks you can’t survive without him. He’s ridiculous.” She smirked, nodding her head while filling my glass. 

She was only doing this because she felt I’d take her along with me so she could appear on the news as well. Olivia has always wanted to appear on the large screens or in the newspaper, but no one has even bothered to check her article or her writing.

“You want the spotlight? Wait for the perfect time,e and you’d enjoy it. Don’t think that my connection with Enzo will do anything to you.” I warned her before she’d even ask me to chirp in a word for her to Enzo. 

“I can’t wait for that time, you and I know it. It’s more like waiting for, ver but if Enzo gives a review on one of my books, it’s going to be on everyone’s shelf.”

“Why give him that kind of hype? He’s not worth it.” I conveyed my opinion on Enzo. He’s recognized, but I hate that everyone thinks he’s some demigod. 

He’s just an arrogant man who knows how to dance well with little brains in the stock market. If he couldn’t see the flaw in that deal, I wonder what type of chaos I’d bring when I’m big like him. 

“You should help me do this.” 

“Why are you sounding harsh? It’s not an order; I’d have to decide whether or not to help you.” I had to put her back in place, making sure she wasn’t ordering me like her junior sister. 

“This is the way you can pay me back for everything I’ve done for you.”

“Did you do all those things to receive something in return?” I hissed, losing my appetite for the meal she prepared. 

“Just take the book to him and let him drop a review, it’s not that hard.”

“He’s a businessman, what makes you think he has time for books?” I replied with a question of mine, holding the glass of juice close to my mouth. 

“He can make it known to the press, telling everyone it’s a good read. I have been suffering, and now you got your opportunity, all thanks to me; it’s the least you can do.” She even dropped the book on the table and pushed it towards me. 

The title of the book was ‘Lights that don’t flicker’. I haven’t even asked her one question about this book. I only enjoyed one of her books while we were still getting to know each other. I don’t know what this would look like. 

“And if I don’t?” 

What is she going to do if I don’t agree to her request?
