Dante's Pov

Pain was the first thing that registered when my consciousness returned.

Every muscle in my body screamed in agony. My head throbbed with such ferocity I thought my skull might split open.

I forced my eyes open, blinking against the dim light. I was lying on the ground, damp earth beneath me. The smell of the forest surrounded me.

The Forbidden Forest.

Memory crashed back immediately. Vera. The cave. The ritual circle. Rye and his trap.

Vera sacrificing herself.

I shot upright despite my body's protests, ignoring the wave of dizziness that nearly knocked me back down.

My face felt stiff and crusty – dried blood coating my skin but I was not bleeding anymore. Whatever the spell had been doing to me had stopped.

"Vera," I gasped out, trying to stand. "I have to go back,”

Movement beside me caught my attention.

Elena lay unconscious on the ground, her chest rising and falling with shallow breaths.

The rogues had brought us to the edge of the forest, just as Rye had ordered

Dante's POVIt had been three days since the healer declared Vera dead and three days since my world ended and I refused to believe it."Alpha, please." Elena stood in the doorway of my room, her eyes red and swollen from crying. "You need to let her go. She deserves a proper burial. A ceremony to honor –""She's not dead," I said, my voice flat and emotionless."Dante,""I said she's not dead!" I turned to glare at her. "The bond is still there. I can still feel it. If she were truly gone, the mate bond would be broken. But it's not. It's still there, connecting us."Elena's face crumpled. "Sometimes the bond takes time to fade. Sometimes it lingers even after –""Get out." I said, my voice dangerously low. "Dante, please listen –""I said get out!" My voice rose to a roar. "Leave me alone with my mate!"Elena flinched but didn't leave. "This is my fault," she whispered. "I saw Sofia in my dreams. I should have known it was a trap. I should have been smarter. Vera died because of me

  • Claimed by the Lycan King    Chapter Seventy: The Price of Mistakes

Dante's POVI didn't waste another second. I scooped Vera's limp wolf form into my arms and ran. My legs pumped faster than they ever had before. My heart hammered against my ribs with pure terror. She was still breathing. I could feel the shallow rise and fall of her chest against mine but she wasn't waking up or even responding at all."Hold on," I whispered desperately as I ran. "Please, Vera. Just hold on. We're almost home."The compound came into view and I burst through the gates at full speed. Pack members scattered out of my way, their faces shocked at the sight of their Alpha carrying an unconscious, bloodied wolf."Elena!" I roared. "I need Elena right now!"She appeared almost instantly, rushing down the front steps. Her eyes went wide when she saw Vera."Oh my God," she breathed. "What happened?""I hit her," I said, my voice full of regret, "I didn't know it was her. I thought she was a rogue. Elena, please, you have to help her.""Bring her inside," Elena ordered, alrea

  • Claimed by the Lycan King    Chapter Sixty-Nine: Blind Rage

Dante's POVI knew I shouldn't leave. Vera had begged me not to, had told me she had a bad feeling about it. But I'd convinced myself it would be fine. A quick trip to the old compound, grab the documents from the fireproof study, and return before she even noticed I was gone.I'd been wrong. The moment I arrived at the burnt mansion, I knew something was off. The place was too quiet. The kind of silence that came before an ambush.I shifted to human form and approached the study carefully. The window was broken, as expected from the fire damage, so I climbed through.Empty.The study was completely empty. The fireproof safe I'd installed stood open, its contents gone. The shelves that should have held important documents were bare, even the backup files I'd hidden in a false panel had been removed.Someone had cleared out everything of value before I'd arrived."Looking for something?"I spun around to find three rogues climbing through the same window I'd used. Their eyes glowed amb

Vera's POV"Impossible," Daemon breathed, staring at my wolf form with wide eyes. "The bindings –the wolfsbane – you shouldn't be able to shift."I didn't waste time responding. I lunged at him before he could recover from his shock and before he could shift into his own wolf form to defend himself. My massive body slammed into his chest with the full force of my weight and momentum. Daemon flew backward, crashing into the concrete wall with a sickening crunch. He slumped to the ground, dazed but still conscious. I could see him trying to call on his wolf, trying to shift.I wouldn't give him the chance.I was on him in seconds, my jaws closing around his shoulder and shaking him like a rag doll. He screamed, the sound cutting off abruptly as I released him and slammed my paw into his head. His eyes rolled back and he went limp, finally unconscious.I turned toward Sofia, ready to deal with her next. She stood frozen near the table, her face pale with terror. Then her hand moved to he

  • Claimed by the Lycan King    Chapter Sixty-Seven: Daemon's Return

Vera's POVDaemon. My ex-mate. The man who'd rejected me. The man who'd watched his pack chase me away like a diseased animal. He looked the same as I remembered – tall, handsome in a cold sort of way, with dark hair and eyes that held cruelty rather than warmth."Hello, Vera," he said, his lips curling into a smile that made my skin crawl. "It's been a while."I couldn't speak or even process what I was seeing. Of all the people who could have walked into this room, Daemon was the last person I'd expected. He moved closer, studying me with obvious interest. His eyes traveled over my face, down my body, taking in every detail."You've changed," he observed, reaching out to trace his fingers along my cheek. "You've lost weight. You're actually quite beautiful now."I jerked my head away from his touch, disgust flooding through me. "Don't touch me."Daemon laughed. "Still have that fire, I see. Though I remember you being much more timid before. Much more willing to accept whatever trea

  • Claimed by the Lycan King    Chapter Sixty-Six: The Truth Unveiled

Vera's POVThe pieces fell into place with horrible clarity.Everything was a lie. Sofia hadn't been forced to betray us. She'd done it willingly. Happily, even, based on the cruel smile spreading across her face."You were never in trouble," I said, my voice flat despite the rage and betrayal churning inside me. "This whole thing was a setup.""Obviously." Sofia stretched, clearly enjoying her freedom while I remained bound. "Did you really think I'd be so careless as to get myself caught? That I'd actually cry for help through a mind-link?""You manipulated Elena," I said. "You knew she'd hear you. You knew she'd want to come save you.""Elena is so predictable," Sofia said with a sigh. "Always seeing the best in people. Always believing there's good in everyone. It makes her easy to use.""You're disgusting.""I'm practical." Sofia walked around my chair in a slow circle, like a predator circling prey. "I knew Elena would come running the moment she thought I was in danger. And I
