When I woke up, I turned on all the televisions in the control room of the house.

Chiara was still asleep, but I could no longer stay in bed; I needed to corroborate that my attack had become a known event. And indeed, I smiled when I realized that many local TV stations were broadcasting about the burned property in the forest.

Nicola walked into the control center and smiled.

“I tied up all the ends,” he said smugly. "It's going to be taken as accidental, like a gas leak from a clandestine lab. They're going to seal off the area so the proper authorities can investigate. No one knows if there's any radioactive source."

I laughed.

Nicola could be too creative for her own good if she put her mind to it.
