Chapter three: The voice in my head.

Five days have passed since I caught my sister and mate in bed. Five days since I heard that voice in my head. I tried using magic to summon the voice again but nothing happened. I can’t forget the possesive growl or the deep timbre of the voice. It’s a constant reminder in my head.

There’s been a lot of buzz about the annual full moon gala and how the alpha king is making a presence tonight. My parents found out what happened and didn’t even scold Genevieve, instead they only made it known that there was no way that the powerful alpha heir could ever end up with a weak mate like me. They have been making me go to the pack house everyday to help arrange for the annual gala, not even caring about how I would feel seeing Julian every day. I have been planning my escape and doing my best to avoid Julian and Genevieve at the same time. They’ve both been trying to talk to me all week but I haven’t given them listening ears and neither will I ever do that. They both made their bed so now they’re going to have to lay on it.

I observe something that makes my chest burn with anger and betrayal. It’s not only Genevieve that he’s been sleeping with. He has also been sleeping with pack maids and other female members of the pack. I can’t believe that I have been such a fool for thinking that he was a gift to me and that he loved me so much. But now my eyes have been opened. I will not stand any kind of humiliation and suffering anymore. Fuck Julian. Fuck his parents. Fuck my parents. And fuck this entire pack.

Night falls soon and the whole pack is buzzing with excitement. The celebration hall has already been set and guests have slowly begun to fill the room. It’s a very big honor for the Lycan king to be gracing this pack with his presence. He is also the alpha of the shadow moon pack and the strongest and most powerful alpha king that has ever ruled over the entire Lycan kingdom and this is the first gala that he is attending in a long time, hence the whole excitement and extravagant decorations. I walk in the direction of Julian’s room when I hear two people whispering by the side.

“I heard that if the alpha king likes this gala, our pack will be one amongst the best packs in the entire kingdom.” The first pack maid maid whispers

“I heard that the alpha king has been cursed by moon goddess for over a decade. Do you think that’s true ?” The other maid asks her colleague and a shiver goes down my spine. At least I’m not the only one who’s on the moon goddess’s bad side. The ugly wolf eating king is too.

I continue my journey to Julian’s room like a woman on a mission, which tonight, I am.

I enter his room without knocking to see him adjusting his cufflinks. He turns and gives me a smile. Before that day, I would have thought that he had the most breathtaking smile but now, he just has a really ugly smile. I feel disgusted even looking at him.

“Lisa, you look beautiful.” His gaze wanders from my head town to my toe in a lustful manner. How come I have never noticed this before? I always thought that he looked at me in an adoring manner. How wrong I was.

“Thank God you’re here. My parents just informed me that the king has arrived. You’ll come with me to meet him as my future Luna” I snort at his words. “Here’s the thing Julian, I don’t want to be your Luna. I’m ending this today.”

The smile drops from his face with the speed of lightning and a snarl mares his face. He lets out a beastly growl that shakes the entire room but I stand my ground firmly. I won’t allow him to intimidate me just because he has alpha blood in him.

“What did you just say you bitch?” He asks, beginning to take threatening steps toward me.

“ You heard me loud and clear Julian. In fact, I’ll suggest you take Genevieve as your future Luna. After all we’re sisters, I’m sure it doesn’t make a difference to you.” I say with every bit of courage I can muster.

“How dare you talk to your future alpha in that manner? Do you think any other man would want you ? You should be grateful that I’m your mate. Have you even seen yourself? You’re nothing but a pathetic and weak wolf-less woman.” He rages, veins popping out of his forehead.

“Exactly Julian! You’ve said it all yourself. I am a wolf-less woman and I’m not fit to rule by your side. It should be easy letting me go.” I tell him, sounding sharp even though I’m breaking inside. I’ve spent five years loving this man whole and I’ll be damned if I waste another year doing that.

“You don’t have a right to…” I cut him off before he can finish his sentence

“I, Lisandra Wentworth reject you, Julian Morrison as my Mate and future alpha” immediately, the bond between our souls stretch painfully, his eyes begin to glow gold

“ Lisa. No!” He shouts, howling in pain. The same pain that I’m feeling right now.

“I reject the bond which the moon goddess has bestowed upon us as mates” I can feel the invisible thread that binds us begin to tear

“Stop right this instant Lisandra.” I go on at his command. “I reject you with the moon goddess as my witness.” My final words echoe throughout the room and the bond snaps, creating a rippling effect around the room . A sharp, bleeding pain seers through my heart. This is it. The mate bond is broken, just like that. Julian sits defeated on his bed and despite the weight settled in my chest, I walk out of his room with my head held high.

On my way towards the stairs, I bump into a huge wall. Or rather a huge person. And that person is staring at me with a look of recognition. Even if I have never seen said person in my entire life.

Then he utters a few words with the voice that has been tormenting my mind all week and that throws my heart right out of my chest.

“Mate. Finally we meet.”
