THE HOLLOW KING

~TATE'S POV~

The Cathedral doors slammed shut behind us, sealing us inside with the monster.

The Siphon hung in the air above the altar....a swirling vortex of anti-light. It didn't have a face, but I could feel its hunger. It felt like standing next to a black hole.

Heriberto stood beneath it, arms raised, chanting in a language that made my ears bleed. The circle of drugged humans hummed in unison, their voices a low, clashing hum.

"It's starting," Vida shouted over the wind. She and the witches were already moving, forming a counter-circle near the entrance. "We have to break the link!"

"Go," Mathias roared.

He and Daxon didn't hesitate. They shifted mid-stride.

It was ugly. The Siphon was already draining the surrounding environment's magic in the room, making the shift agonizing. I heard bones crack and reset wrong. I saw fur sprouting in patches. But they didn't stop. Two massive, malformed wolves barreled down the center aisle, claws scrabbling on the stone floo

THE VOID~HERIBERTO'S POV~I felt it the moment she touched the Stone to the page.It wasn't a sound. It was a slight disturbance in the air... a cold feeling that touched the magic I had spread over the city. A small, blue dot on my awareness. They were reading my book."Clever girl," I whispered. My voice didn't echo. The Bone Orchard didn't allow for echoes; the walls soaked up sound just as they absorbed light. I sat on the Throne of Bones..... a strange work of art made from human thigh bones, dark metal, and the hardened bones of those who let me down. It vibrated on my back, giving me power for my rise.I opened my eyes. They weren't human eyes anymore. I could see different kinds of magic in the air—purple ribbons of empty energy, grey clouds of decay, and thin, golden threads of life force that I was collecting."Master?"Victoria approached the foot of the throne. She kept her head bowed, her eyes fixed on the rough floor. She was trembling. She could feel the Siphon inside

THE TRANSLATION~TATE'S POV~The Library felt really tense and uncomfortable, like a pressure cooker. The air was thick and smelled weird, like rotten eggs and old blood. The storm outside was gone, but it was so quiet you could almost hear the silence. We stood around a big wooden table. In the middle was the Codex..... The creepy book made from skin that seemed to almost move when you stared at it. Next to it was the Kyanite Heart, a rough blue stone that glowed and pulsed like a strange creature from the ocean."It's now or never," Vida rasped. She was slouched in a chair, wrapped in a blanket, shivering even with the fire burning brightly. She had very little magic left; her skin looked pale and thin. "The moon is already cresting the tree line. Heriberto isn't going to wait for an invitation.""Show us," Daxon said. He was pacing the perimeter of the room, wiping black golem ichor off his machete with a rag. He moved with a limp, favoring his chest, but his energy was twisted tig

BLOOD ON THE FLOOR~MATHIAS'S POV~We didn't enter the Packhouse like heroes returning from a quest. We entered like a natural disaster seeking shelter. The heavy oak doors slammed open against the stone walls, the sound echoing like a gunshot through the hall. The storm outside blew in with us, a gust of cold rain that swirled across the floorboards.Daxon walked in first. He was limping, favoring his left side where the blood rune was carved into his chest, but his presence was undeniable. He held his silver-coated machete loosely at his side, the blade dripping black golem ichor onto the expensive rug.Tate was next. She looked small between us, drenched to the bone, her hair plastered to her skull. But she held the Kyanite Heart against her chest like it was a grenade she was waiting to throw. And then... me.I walked in last.My suit...charcoal grey Italian silk, tailored to perfection...was ruined. It was stiff, soaked heavy with a dark, viscous red. It wasn't my blood. It was t

THE CRYPT~DAXON'S POV~St. Jude's Cemetery wasn't just quiet; it was dead silent. The kind of silence that presses against your eardrums until they ache.We moved through the fog like a hunting party of ghosts. The mist clung to the ground, swirling around the ancient, moss-covered headstones. It smelled of wet wool, decaying flowers, and something sharper—rain. Magic.I took point, my boots sinking into the soft, wet earth. My chest burned where the blood rune was carved, a constant, throbbing reminder of my own mortality, but I ignored it. Pain was just noise."Left flank," Marcus's voice crackled in my earpiece. "Don't trip over the weeping angel. It's tacky."I glanced back. Mathias was moving in my shadow. He didn't make a sound. He didn't breathe heavy. He just... existed. One second he was ten feet back, the next he was right at my shoulder, moving with that unnerving, smooth elegance he'd acquired."The mausoleum is ahead," Mathias whispered. He didn't use the comms. He didn'

THE BLOOD CIPHER~MARCUS BLACKTHORN'S POV~The Silverfang Packhouse library used to smell like lemon polish and old paper. Now, it just smells like ozone, copper, and that weird metallic scent of frustration.Rain lashed against the windows, a rhythmic drumming that seemed to count down the seconds of our remaining lives. Inside, the fire in the hearth had burned low, casting long, dancing shadows that looked too much like claws.Vida was slumped over the stolen Codex at the heavy oak table. She looked wrecked. Her skin was the color of parchment, dark circles bruised her eyes, and her hands trembled as she hovered them over the open pages."It's not reading," she rasped, her voice thick with exhaustion. "The syntax... it's alive. It shifts every time I try to pin it down. It's like trying to read water while it boils."She grabbed a silver athame, her movements jerky, and sliced a fresh line across her palm. She didn't even wince. She squeezed her fist, letting thick drops of blood s

BLOOD AND GUILT~TATE'S POV~The Armory was cold, smelling of gun oil and silver.I stood at the workbench, my hands moving mechanically as I loaded high-caliber rounds into a magazine. Click. Click. Click. The sound was the only thing keeping me from screaming.'New blood,' the Codex had said. Those kids... Vance, Jennifer, Thomas. They weren't just names on a roster. I had shaken their hands. I had promised them a new world where they wouldn't have to be afraid. And now? They were cattle lining up for the slaughter because I was too arrogant to see the trap."I fed them to him," I whispered to the empty room. "I built the program, and he used it as a menu."I shoved the magazine into the weapon with a violent snap."Stop it."Daxon's voice came from the shadows near the door. I hadn't heard him enter....my senses were dull compared to theirs. He walked into the light, wearing a black Henley that stretched tight across his chest. He looked tired, angry, and beautiful."Don't tell me
