Kaden's POV

“We can bring in more warriors if Caelthorn needs it,” Ronald said, looking up at me.

As much as I was tempted, I shook my head. This was going to be a battle amongst elementals.

With fire and water flying across the battlefield, the more people we had across the battlefield, the more casualties.

“That is not advisable.” Before he could push, I added. “But we can keep your people on standby to help us in case the need arises.”

Just as we had our own people waiting to the side.

Elara’s POVThe two sides of the battlefield had come to a stalemate.Someone in the rescue team had been wonderful enough to bring some snacks to the battlefield. I shoveled down down my mouth yet because of my now ridiculously fast metabolism, I still did not feel full.“It’s finished,” I whined to Kaden, showing him the empty bag of chips.Kaden turned to one of the warriors. “Go and get Luna some food.”Before he could move, fire landed right between his feet. “If anybody moves, I will kill them on the spot.”Kuro slammed his feet down on Asher’s chest. Three of his ribs cracked from the force. “Threaten my people again and I will end him.”Seraphina fell silent again, biting on her lower lip. Us finding out how important Asher was to her ritual had not been amongst her plans. It made me want to kill him and get this over with.I lowered to my knees in front of him. Asher’s eyes darted around my face, not in fear but in something closer to admiration. My claws extended and wrapped

Elara’s POV“When do I get back?” I asked the phoenix. “The Blood Moon is in a few days.”You are not ready. She gave me the same reply that she had been giving me since I started training with her. This in-between was an amazing place as it was mysterious. There was no need for rest or food. All I had done was hone my powers non-stop since I arrived. It was tiring to my mind but what kept me going was the picture of defeating Seraphina and shutting her mouth for good.“What are you looking at?” I asked. The phoenix was staring into that basin again. Whenever I asked, she had always refused.I always let it slide but now was the first time that I saw a look of worry on her face. I stood and walked to her.Get back to your training!“I want to see!” I said and snatched the basin from her. She sent fire hurtling towards me but I jumped out of the way, rolling on the marble floor. The image in the basin shimmered into view. My heart stopped.Kaden. Seraphina. All those bodies on the gras

Kaden’s POVSeraphina let the cloth fall off her arms as she stepped closer, twirling around.“Do you like your surprise, Kaden?” she said, her voice filled with glee. “I thought to make this a worthwhile night for you and your men. What other thing to drive you crazy than seeing your Luna–”“You are not our Luna!” one of my warriors said from the crowd.Shouts and howls of agreement came from the rest of them. Seraphina stopped, her smile vanishing. “Excuse me?”I stepped forward, looking at her face. Elara would never have such contempt in her eyes when looking at me and our pack members. The more I stared, the more I realized that the only thing that Seraphina had been able to capture was Elara’s appearance.Aura. Mannerisms. Expressions. Smile.Everything else was wrong.“A fake will always be a fake,” I said confidently. “Even if my mate died, you still would not be chosen by the Moon.”Seraphina watched for a whole minute, the sound of crickets filling the tense silence and then

Armor was not very practical for our fighting style, like many other packs preferred to do.I looked up at the sky. It was bright with the sun shining. No one would guess that the blood moon was in three hours. Before Samuel could continue giving his report, I waved him away. “If there

Elara’s POVI woke up on what felt like a plush bed. My back ached as I sat up, staring at the room with confusion.“You are awake,” a voice said to my right.I turned. The sight made me freeze.I should not have been able to remember her from all those decades ago but somewhere inside me, I knew the truth. This was my mother. She sat in an exquisitely carved rocking chair, sipping on a cup of tea as she looked at me. Not with love or longing but with something close to scrutiny.“What are you doing here?” she asked me gently.I stared blankly at her, wondering the answer to her question.“Is this the afterlife?” I asked, knowing that it was the only way I could meet her. The blanket under my fingers felt so real that it was jarring.“Somewhat of an in-between,” she replied calmly. “There is no need for you to understand. You will be leaving here soon anyway.”That was when my memories rushed back in.Lenora. The ritual. The flame empress.“Where is the phoenix?” I asked her. Had it k

Elara's POV“If you feel any discomfort, say so,” Silver said. “Things like this have a reputation for going south. Don't take on more than you can handle–”“Thank you, Silver, for your warning,” I replied. For the seventh time in the last two hours.Lenora on the other hand was gingerly sucking on a bottle. When she finished, she passed out in her mother's arms, little snores leaving her lips.To be as carefree as a child again.Oliver had finished drawing the magic circle, following the pattern that his mate had had tattooed on his thigh.Rosalyn set Lenora down on the ground opposite me. “Please, keep my daughter safe.”Translation for ‘Don’t let your greed get the best of you that you start to suck out your niece's life force.’We will leave just a little bit of the flame to keep her safe, Anika said, even more excited about the ritual than me.“You better,” I muttered. “If we hurt her, Rosalyn will kill me.”You will be the strongest elemental in the world. She can try.“Are you
