INICIAR SESIÓNSomething was tickling my cheek.
It felt like…sticks? No. Fingers. My eyes snapped open and I jumped to my feet, my claws extended. There were three men in the room. All Alphas. Strong ones. Crap. I lowered my hands, bowing until I was almost at ninety degrees. “Can you tell me why I am here?” “She sure changed her tune quick,” one of them joked and then yelped in pain after a smack. “We found you collapsed on our borders. Our rangers shot at you. They thought you were a rogue.” The events of the last twenty-four hours flooded into my mind. Picking the lock. Running and jumping over the pack wall. My heart sped up in pure joy. I did it. I escaped from Blackwood. “Will I be allowed to leave your pack?” I asked. “That depends.” I looked into his eyes for the first time. “On what?” He blinked slowly, staring so intently at me that I nearly forgot what we were talking about. “What our Alpha decides.” My spine stiffened. His Alpha? “You are not the Alpha?” I looked between the three of them, hoping this was a joke. Alphas were stubborn, headstrong beings. Having one bend to another was unprecedented. Having three of their caliber? The man must be a beast. “You have no reason to be afraid. Our Alpha is a merciful man,” the second one said. I lowered myself to the bed, wrapping my arms around my body. Maybe if I made myself look small enough, they would let me go. “Are you well enough to walk?” the third one said, already helping out of bed. Just my luck. “What is your name?” the first one asked as he led me out of the room. “Elara Bla…Vale. Elara Vale.” They froze in unison, turning first to each other and then to me. The first one advanced me slowly. “Do you know your parents’ names?” My feet rooted in place in the ground. Answer the damn question, Elara. “Gideon and Carla Vale. That was all I was told at the orphanage,” I whispered. His hands shook as he held my shoulders. “May I?” Why was he tugging at my shirt? He gave his brothers a look, and they stripped their shirts at the same time, revealing matching birthmarks on their shoulders. A crescent moon. I lowered my hands and let him tug my collar to the side to reveal my shoulder. The same mark rested on it as it had for as long as I could remember. “Sister,” he whispered. He pulled me into a bone-crushing hug, sniffing in my scent like it was the last thing he would do on Earth. His brothers swarmed me on both sides, suffocating me in their hug. What the hell? I have brothers? The first one pulled back, a million emotions running through his eyes. “We have been looking all over for you since Mum and Dad died…wait, why do you feel so weak? You have not awakened your powers. We need to take you to the mystic forest to meet–” “Cain, slow down. She doesn’t even know our names yet. I am Ronan,” the second one introduced himself. “This is Cain and Leo,” he said, pointing to the first and the third respectively. “We are your brothers,” Leo said. I glanced between three of them. They were in their wolf state so often that their canines were now longer and sharper than a human’s should be. “This does not make any sense.” Leo hugged me from behind, resting his chin on my head. “Why? We are your family.” “But–” “What is taking so long to bring the intruder?” a voice boomed behind us. My knees buckled. If Leo had not been holding me, I would have fallen. “We found Elara. Our sister,” Ronan explained. “Ellie, say hi.” I could barely focus over the sweet pine scent that was invading my senses. No way. Removing Leo’s hands from me, I turned around. He was staring at me as well, his lips slightly parted. The moment I looked into his golden eyes, it felt like everything had become right with the world. My mate. Suddenly, he blinked and started walking away. “I am sure you need your time to bond.” Cain was giving me a weird look. “We were hoping to go into the mystic forest to see Adaira.” My mate paused and then sped up. “Be careful.” I stared for long after he was gone. “What was that?” Cain asked, snapping me out of my daydreaming. My cheeks were flushed, my heart running a mile a minute. “What?” He shook his head. “Don’t worry. Let us go.” “Right now?” I asked. I barely knew them and they were whisking me away somewhere. “The earlier the better. Besides, it would be easier for you to find out more about our background from the healer.” It was nighttime. Maybe it was because I was still recovering, but I could barely see through the dark windows of the car. In the silence, my mind traveled back to my mate. Wavy, black hair. Golden eyes. That air of confidence around him that bordered on arrogance. He definitely kept his energy hidden but I could still feel it. He was their Alpha. The beast who was able to keep three other Alphas as his subordinates. “We are here,” Ronan announced as he parked. “We would have to walk from here.” Leo got out of the car and squatted in front of me. “Get on my back. I will carry you, Ellie.” Ellie. I loved the way they said it. After moving along a path for some time, we emerged in a large grass clearing. At the center of it was a small, dark cabin with soft lights coming through the windows. Ronan went ahead. “Adaira, we came to visit…oh, you have guests.” My fingers dug into Leo’s shoulders as I stared into the house. He glanced back. “Ellie, what’s wrong?” Asher and Lillian. How had they found me?Elara’s POVKaden and I were sent a sanction before daybreak the next morning. It was needless to say that the council was not very happy with the stunt Kaden pulled during the ceremony. We were barely done reading their very long, angry letter when one of the patrol guards knocked on the door with another. “This is from Councilman Donatello’s wife.”Kaden’s eyes narrowed sharply at the small wrapped box. “Are you sure that I should not kill him?”I took it from the guard. “Donatello might be a creep. His wife? Not so much.”If anything, she was one of the sweetest women I had ever had the honour of meeting. Too bad she was sold by her father to be a wife to that pervert. When the door shut, I set the box on the table and started to slowly unwrap it. The wrapping was barely out when a medallion fell from inside.I lifted the chain, studying the engraving on the body. Fire.“Is there a note?” Kaden asked as he took it from me.I searched the rest of the box. “Nothing…there is something
Elara’s POVKaden was grinning so wide that I was suffering from second-hand embarrassment.“Stop it,” I hissed from the corner of my lips. “Everyone is staring.”“Luna Caelthorn, congratulations!” one of the guests said as he entered the hall. “...Alpha Caelthorn, you look well.”Kaden barely paid attention to the man, his eyes glossy.I smiled at the guest until he walked away before I turned a pointed glare on Kaden. “We are hosting today. Can you try not to have your head in the clouds?”“You said that you loved me, right?” he teased and my cheeks flamed again.“Childish,” I muttered, walking back to the packhouse to find Cain.I was met with panicked yelling. Donna was hunched over, her hand pressed against her chest. Farah stood beside her.“Breathe in,” Farah said and Donna sucked in a sharp breath and held it.“Out.”Donna blinked rapidly, tears pooling in her eyes. Farah tilted her head up. “If you cry now, you will ruin your makeup.”“What if someone out there knows me? I us
Elara's POVI slapped Kaden's wandering hands from my body.“Don't you dare touch me,” I snapped and then winced when pain shot up my back again.Goddess. What had I been thinking, letting Kaden into my ass?“Do you want me to kiss it better?” he teased. My face fell. “That isn't a joke.”His eyes widened. “Sorry…does it hurt that much?”As we were speaking, my body was doing what it did best: repairing itself.I slapped his chest. “Go make yourself useful. Make me a sandwich or something.”Kaden kissed my forehead before leaving the room. When the soreness faded, I let out a relieved sigh, trying to get out of bed.“No. No,” Kaden said, entering the room while balancing a tray precariously on his palm.On it was a very modest breakfast: cereal, a sandwich, some quickly made eggs but breakfast nonetheless.“Breakfast in bed?” I said, sitting up.He grinned. “It's the least you deserve.” His lips pressed to the side of my forehead. As I ate my breakfast, Kaden ran a bath. I had just sw
Kaden’s POVI was fine with Silver’s big mouth until he started talking to Elara. As it turned out, there was a lot in the field of elemental theory that I did not realize could make for an interesting two-hour conversation.Elara had not even glanced at me once in the last thirty minutes.“They always say fire and water complement each other so I was thinking,” Silver said. “If your fire met my water, it would produce steam, right?”“Well, yes, if I control the temperature of the fire well enough.”“Who would be able to control the resulting steam? You or me?”Elara blinked. “Steam is just evaporated water particles.”“But what about the heat? The only reason it still exists in steam is that the temperature is hot, right? If you separated the heated particles, it would turn right back to water.”“Ah…that is a good question.”As her eyes shone brighter, my irritation only seemed to climb.Somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew the truth. She did not see him as any more than an acqu
Elara’s POVEven with an injured leg dragging behind him, Silver still found a way to smile.“Donna!” he exclaimed, trying to run to hug her.Along the way, he tripped, fell on his face and then, continued running. Donna’s face was a mixture of alarmed and concerned as he pulled her into a hug.“What the hell?” she mouthed to me.Silver leaned back, a wide grin on his face. “I’m your uncle Silver.”“I dont’ have an uncle Silver,” she said slowly.Water swirled around his body, coming to float above their heads. Donna’s eyes narrowed sharply. “Uncle from his side,” she said curtly.A dramatic frown slipped onto his face. “You’re mad. I’m sorry that I have not come to visit all this while. I have been looking for you all.”Donna pointed to herself. “I’m twenty-six. He left when I was fourteen. You…I have not seen you my entire life.”“Benjamin is an idiot. He did not tell me that he had a family.”“He is your brother!”“Estranged,” Silver corrected. “And he is old enough to be my dad. I
Elara’s POVDonna hovered around me, her face covered in concern. “I am so sorry. Let me see.”I waved her away and snapped my dislocated nose back into place. “I’m fine. It will heal in a second.”But more importantly…“What was that?” I asked her. “How was the water hard enough to dislocate my nose?”Donna watched my nose in horror as the swelling disappeared, replaced by a soft redness. “I don’t know what that was. It felt like I blanked there for a second.”Donna was an elemental. But her mother said that her father was an elemental as well. That would mean the gene ran in all members of the family and not just one gender like my flame. Was it in exchange for their wolves becoming dormant?Cain dropped to the ground in front of me. “What is going on, Elara?”“I am not quite sure either…Donna, do you remember if anything like this happened in my childhood?”She played with her hair. “I can barely remember anything from before I was ten.”Ten years old? That was not normal. Her mem
Elara’s POVMy words settled heavily in the room.Seconds passed in silence, the hum of the air conditioner almost echoing off the mostly bare walls.Hilda pressed her palms flat on her knees. “Yes, Luna. We are mates.”Harry let out an irritated sigh. That was the first time I had seen his face no
Elara’s POV“I told you that I should have done it.”“I swear, I followed the instructions to the letter. I have no idea why she fainted.”“Should I pour water on her face?”There was a slap and then a thud.My eyes slowly blinked open. My brothers were kneeling over my body, still arguing amongst
Elara’s POV“I wonder if it would kill him to be polite,” I muttered in annoyance as I checked to see if the card had left a scar.“Not so loud, Luna,” she whispered over the phone.Cain had been so nice to lend me one of his spares. The only person I thought to video call was Tracy. She was the on
Elara’s POV“Ellie, is there a problem?” Ronan asked. My throat tightened to the point I could not breathe. It had barely been twenty-four hours. How did they find me already?Would they try to take me back? My brothers would not willingly give me away, right?Leo lowered us to the ground to set me
