LOGINSomething was tickling my cheek.
It felt like…sticks? No. Fingers. My eyes snapped open and I jumped to my feet, my claws extended. There were three men in the room. All Alphas. Strong ones. Crap. I lowered my hands, bowing until I was almost at ninety degrees. “Can you tell me why I am here?” “She sure changed her tune quick,” one of them joked and then yelped in pain after a smack. “We found you collapsed on our borders. Our rangers shot at you. They thought you were a rogue.” The events of the last twenty-four hours flooded into my mind. Picking the lock. Running and jumping over the pack wall. My heart sped up in pure joy. I did it. I escaped from Blackwood. “Will I be allowed to leave your pack?” I asked. “That depends.” I looked into his eyes for the first time. “On what?” He blinked slowly, staring so intently at me that I nearly forgot what we were talking about. “What our Alpha decides.” My spine stiffened. His Alpha? “You are not the Alpha?” I looked between the three of them, hoping this was a joke. Alphas were stubborn, headstrong beings. Having one bend to another was unprecedented. Having three of their caliber? The man must be a beast. “You have no reason to be afraid. Our Alpha is a merciful man,” the second one said. I lowered myself to the bed, wrapping my arms around my body. Maybe if I made myself look small enough, they would let me go. “Are you well enough to walk?” the third one said, already helping out of bed. Just my luck. “What is your name?” the first one asked as he led me out of the room. “Elara Bla…Vale. Elara Vale.” They froze in unison, turning first to each other and then to me. The first one advanced me slowly. “Do you know your parents’ names?” My feet rooted in place in the ground. Answer the damn question, Elara. “Gideon and Carla Vale. That was all I was told at the orphanage,” I whispered. His hands shook as he held my shoulders. “May I?” Why was he tugging at my shirt? He gave his brothers a look, and they stripped their shirts at the same time, revealing matching birthmarks on their shoulders. A crescent moon. I lowered my hands and let him tug my collar to the side to reveal my shoulder. The same mark rested on it as it had for as long as I could remember. “Sister,” he whispered. He pulled me into a bone-crushing hug, sniffing in my scent like it was the last thing he would do on Earth. His brothers swarmed me on both sides, suffocating me in their hug. What the hell? I have brothers? The first one pulled back, a million emotions running through his eyes. “We have been looking all over for you since Mum and Dad died…wait, why do you feel so weak? You have not awakened your powers. We need to take you to the mystic forest to meet–” “Cain, slow down. She doesn’t even know our names yet. I am Ronan,” the second one introduced himself. “This is Cain and Leo,” he said, pointing to the first and the third respectively. “We are your brothers,” Leo said. I glanced between three of them. They were in their wolf state so often that their canines were now longer and sharper than a human’s should be. “This does not make any sense.” Leo hugged me from behind, resting his chin on my head. “Why? We are your family.” “But–” “What is taking so long to bring the intruder?” a voice boomed behind us. My knees buckled. If Leo had not been holding me, I would have fallen. “We found Elara. Our sister,” Ronan explained. “Ellie, say hi.” I could barely focus over the sweet pine scent that was invading my senses. No way. Removing Leo’s hands from me, I turned around. He was staring at me as well, his lips slightly parted. The moment I looked into his golden eyes, it felt like everything had become right with the world. My mate. Suddenly, he blinked and started walking away. “I am sure you need your time to bond.” Cain was giving me a weird look. “We were hoping to go into the mystic forest to see Adaira.” My mate paused and then sped up. “Be careful.” I stared for long after he was gone. “What was that?” Cain asked, snapping me out of my daydreaming. My cheeks were flushed, my heart running a mile a minute. “What?” He shook his head. “Don’t worry. Let us go.” “Right now?” I asked. I barely knew them and they were whisking me away somewhere. “The earlier the better. Besides, it would be easier for you to find out more about our background from the healer.” It was nighttime. Maybe it was because I was still recovering, but I could barely see through the dark windows of the car. In the silence, my mind traveled back to my mate. Wavy, black hair. Golden eyes. That air of confidence around him that bordered on arrogance. He definitely kept his energy hidden but I could still feel it. He was their Alpha. The beast who was able to keep three other Alphas as his subordinates. “We are here,” Ronan announced as he parked. “We would have to walk from here.” Leo got out of the car and squatted in front of me. “Get on my back. I will carry you, Ellie.” Ellie. I loved the way they said it. After moving along a path for some time, we emerged in a large grass clearing. At the center of it was a small, dark cabin with soft lights coming through the windows. Ronan went ahead. “Adaira, we came to visit…oh, you have guests.” My fingers dug into Leo’s shoulders as I stared into the house. He glanced back. “Ellie, what’s wrong?” Asher and Lillian. How had they found me?Elara’s POV“Luna!”I laughed, stumbling as the children collided into my legs. “My little sunshines, I missed you all.”“We missed you too!” they yelled over each other. The littler ones climbed the tables and chairs, some even on top of the shoulders of the other kids, to get to my upper body. They swarmed me so much that I fell to the ground under their weight.“That’s enough.”One of my eyes opened to see Cassian walking towards me. The children scattered from me, fear flashing across their faces.“Are you alright?” he asked, lowering on one knee.I frowned, flicking his hand away from me. “They are kids, you know? You do not have to be so mean with them.”Cassian looked around us. “I was not trying to be mean. Why did they leave?”My eye twitched. Did he seriously not know or was he pretending to be oblivious?I reached for the child nearest to me. “Georgie. Come here.”The three-year-old looked at me and then at Alpha and then shook his head. Cassian turned to George and beckone
Elara’s POV“...thank you once again, Alpha Oliver, for all the support.”He laughed through the speakers. “As long as it is you, I will never hesitate to put down money. And never mind all those formalities, we are now family.”“That is true. My brother’s father is a father to me as well,” I said. His voice turned serious. “But really, how is my son-in-law coping? My darling Rosalyn can be difficult to handle.”Did he know that she was pregnant?“Why don’t you call Leo? I could send you his number,” I offered. It took another minute to wrestle Alpha Oliver off the phone. When I finally did, I sighed at the paper on my desk. That’s the ten million I need to kick off Bluewave.“What are you still doing here?”I ignored Kaden, focusing on my paperwork. Between legal documents and employee screenings, I had a truckload of things to do.Another argument with him was the last thing I had time for.Kaden walked in, his hand reaching for the paper I was looking at.When he snatched it from m
Kaden’s POVI recoiled as the scent of blood hit my nose. “What the hell?”Kaden’s eyes narrowed at the scene in front of him.A young wolf stood over the body of an aged woman, her hand in his mouth.“Shift,” Kaden ordered.I scanned the body of the wolf. His fur was bristled, covered in blood like he had just shifted for the first time.“Kaden.” I held his arm. “I think he just shifted for the first time and lost control–”“Shift,” Kaden ordered again.Rather than submit, the wolf started to growl at Kaden, dropping into fighting stance as he prepared to lunge forward.Shit. He was challenging his Alpha. This was going to end badly. My grip tightened around Kaden’s arm. “Kaden, wait. I don’t think he realizes what is–”Before my words were out of my mouth, the wolf lunged forward. His jaw opened and caught Kaden’s hand right in its mouth.Kaden’s fingers clenched inside the wolf’s mouth, digging into his mouth. The wolf yelped and darted away.In a split second, Kaden’s clothes shre
Elara’s POV“You want to have Kaden’s child?”I replayed the question over and over in my head. My mind gave me a response almost immediately and it felt like a betrayal more than anything.“Ronan,” I said, reaching for him.He tore his hand away from me, his blue eyes dark and filled with sorrow. “Answer me.”“I cannot help it. He is my mate.”Ronan pinched the bridge of his nose. “You know more than anyone that the mating bond is just a suggestion. He was an absolute jerk to you when–”“Ronan!” I snapped. “I understand that we have differing opinions but you will not speak about my mate like that in front of me and expect me to do nothing.”He paused, looking at me like you would look at a stranger. “Ellie…what happened to you?”“I like him, Ronan,” I admitted. It was not quite love yet but I knew my feelings were now emotionally involved with Kaden.Ronan reached forward and grabbed my arms, his eyes wild with panic. “But this place is not our home. We are of another bloodline.”I
Elara’s POVAs expected, Harry flew into a rage.“He’s twenty-six, Sandra!” Harry yelled, pointing at Romero, who was lounging back on the couch.Sandra pushed back against her brother’s chest. “I know but he’s hot. You know I like older men.”“An eight-year age gap is a lot.” He turned to Romero. “She’s a fucking teenager, you pervert!”“So what?” Romero replied dismissively.“So what? So what?!” Harry pulled up his sleeves. “I swear I am going to wipe that dirty mouth–”“Harry, that’s enough,” I said.Harry paused. “Luna…”“They are mates. There is only so much you can do to keep them apart. Besides, I know Romero and I have his mother’s number. If he hurts her, I will pay for your ticket to Spain out of my personal funds.”Romero threw his hands in the air, getting to his feet. “See, problem solved.”He palmed Sandra’s ass right in front of all of us. “Pack your bags, mi amor. The plane leaves tonight.”Sandra pouted, playing with his shirt. “I want to celebrate with my girls for a
Elara’s POV“I swear everyone has been talking about you.”I smiled. “Really?”Cain caught up to me and swung his arm over my shoulder. “You should have seen the look on Elder Frederick’s face as he ranted at the bar last night.”“Elder Goddrick? Should he still be drinking at ninety-two?”Cain barked a laugh. “He never hears a word about it. He’s going to give his grandchildren heart attacks one of these days.”“Kaden never invites anyone for a strategy meeting,” Cain said. “I only attend the annual one at the beginning of the year.”“Next month?” I asked.Cain hummed. “The New Year is coming…where are you going?”“Romero is coming today to discuss an alternate food supply route. Since I was the one who suggested the plan–” I raised the papers in my arms. “I have to be ready.”Cain went silent for half a minute before asking, “Do you need another assistant? With your training, you are practically working around the clock.”“I don’t know if I need another assistant as much as I need a
Elara’s POVMy brothers bared their necks in unison.“Alpha Kaden,” they greeted in unison.“Kaden,” I whispered in awe. What a beautiful name. The wind carried my voice to his ears. His eyes fell to me, one of his delicate brows raising.Suddenly, a wave of energy slammed into me. Enough energy to
Elara’s POV“Ellie, is there a problem?” Ronan asked. My throat tightened to the point I could not breathe. It had barely been twenty-four hours. How did they find me already?Would they try to take me back? My brothers would not willingly give me away, right?Leo lowered us to the ground to set me
Elara’s POVMy words settled heavily in the room.Seconds passed in silence, the hum of the air conditioner almost echoing off the mostly bare walls.Hilda pressed her palms flat on her knees. “Yes, Luna. We are mates.”Harry let out an irritated sigh. That was the first time I had seen his face no
Elara’s POVMary’s little voice echoed through the dining hall. The teacher dropped to her knees in front of the Alpha, her entire body paralyzed in fear.“Mary is a child. The fault of her disrespect lies with me, her teacher. I am willing to die to–”“Who said anything about you dying?” I said, g
