He wasn’t handling things well; he was blaming himself for not following her around everywhere like he usually does. But if he was handling things badly, then Ash was at the point of going feral. He had suddenly roared out his anger earlier that morning and it took them more than an hour to calm him down enough to explain that Ember had been slapped in the face.
Of course, with him being marked he could feel some of her pain and a lot of her emotions, something which she could not sense with being unmarked by him. Personally, he thought Ash was handling things amazingly under the circumstances with all things considered.
