LOGINRavik’s eyes caressed her body, and Seraphine wished the ground would open and cover her up. But she stood defiantly, staring Ravik squarely in the face.
Lust blanketed Ravik’s eyes as he looked at her hungrily. “Can I touch?” he asked eagerly. “When I’m done with her.” the king spoke calmly, yet his eyes made the words a promise. A clear display to her that he had control while she held none. Seraphine was his to do as he wished to. Ravik stared at the king again before walking out, and Seraphine discovered that there was a look in the man’s eyes when he was staring at his king. Not hate, no—not hate. But she couldn’t place that look yet. “Guards!” the king called, but he didn’t have to raise his voice. Two guards appeared. “Yes, Your Highness.” His cold eyes didn’t leave Seraphine. “Tell the servants to bathe my slave once I’m done here. Get her clean and have her in my chambers in three hours.” “Yes, Your Highness.” The guards were reluctant to leave because they were staring at her state of undress. Seraphine focused on the king with anger and hate in her teary eyes, defiance in her stance. He released her breast finally. “I will hurt you so much, you will live and crave pain. I will do to you everything you and your father did to me and my people, and so much more. I will share you with as many as I want, and I will train you to be the most obedient of dogs.” Fear was almost an entity on Seraphine’s tongue, but she didn’t allow it to show on her face. She knew all this would happen even before he came in. His lips twitched, drawing emphasis to his scarred cheek. “I will break you, Seraphine.” “You can never break me, you monster!” The words tore from Seraphine’s lips. Yet as her words left her mouth, she knew they were nothing but lies. Her eyes widened because she had talked back to him. Slaves did not talk back to their masters, or there would be punishment. He didn’t disappoint. The king grabbed the chain of Seraphine’s collar and yanked on it hard, and Seraphine cried out. His eyes flashed. He tilted her chin up, his grip strong. “I love seeing so much fire, because I am going to love quenching all of it. You have no idea what I have in store for you—or maybe you do. After all, you once trained slaves.” My father trained slaves! she almost screamed at him. Pure hatred dripped from the king’s cold eyes. “Your training starts tonight. You will be in my bed.” He got up and stalked out of the room like a huge, lethal panther. Seraphine was finally taken away from her cage immediately after the king’s visit. She saw places again that weren’t her cold, barren cage, and it made her feel better. However, her heart still beat faster whenever she remembered the reason she was taken out of her cell for the first time in one week. She was put in a tub, and the maids bathed her just as the king instructed. Funny, that maids would bathe a slave. But then again, it was not surprising if the slave’s destination was the king’s bed. Three maids attended to her. One of them, the oldest, named Maela, was the one in charge. They loosened her hair and combed out the tangles, leaving it in a long, curly mess. The clothes they had her put on made Seraphine cringe. It was barely any clothing; she might as well be naked. A red leather skirt that barely left her hips and a red leather top that only covered her nipples, stopping just above her belly—this was all she wore. Then she was given a long robe that covered the clothlessness. They sprayed fragrance on her too. “All done,” Maela announced. Seraphine stared at herself in the mirror, and for a moment, she saw herself like she used to be: Princess Seraphine. “You can go over to the king’s chambers now. It’s not advisable to keep him waiting,” Maela stated curtly. Seraphine said nothing. She desperately wanted to ask these people how “her people” were. She hadn’t seen any of her people since she was brought here. Were they slaves too? Had they been sold as sex slaves? Were they shared amongst the privileged rich families of Korvath? After all, that was exactly what her father did to the people of Korvath. She was worried, but she knew she had no right to be. She had more pressing things to worry about. Like the fact that the king of Korvath, who hated her with every fiber of his being, was about to sleep with her."There are rumors that the King punished the wicked mistress Lysera for whipping you," Briella whispered. That was shocking. The most shocking she's heard. "What?"Briella pulled back and continued in a whisper. "There's a rumor that the king placed her under house arrest for three noondays."A thrill of pleasure shot through Seraphine's body at the knowledge. She must be a bad person for being happy but she couldn't help it.Three days without having to see Mistress Lysera are days to look ahead to, even though her back hurts and she still has to work, she's still happy."I was so happy when I heard it, my princess! I'm really happy about it," Briella enthused excitedly."I'm happy to hear it too, Briella," Seraphine finally admitted.Seraphine just finished taking her bath, getting ready to go to the mines. Her body really hurts badly and she'll give anything not to have to work today. But then again, she doesn't want to allow herself to dwell on things she can't change. Briella ha
When King Draven spoke, his words were curt and straight to the point."Make sure she doesn't work for so many days to come, Maela. Send out orders to the maids, slaves, servants, and slave trainers both in the palace and in the mine sites, that all of them should stay out of her way. If I find out she worked, the person responsible will be punished.""Yes, my king." Maela wasn't really surprised. It's just like the night he'd visited the girl in her bedroom. He'd given orders just like this...only lesser."That girl Briella," he paused, "these orders extend to her too. At least for today.""I understand, My King."Just like that day, he pinned her with a glare. "I don't need feedback, Maela. I don't care. Make sure you don't bring them.""Of course, My Lord."He nodded once. "You're dismissed."Seraphine did her best to remember the events of last night clearly as she walked to her room, but it was all blurry conversation. She was really curious about them and she doesn't know why. M
That was the day he vowed that he'll have the princess as his slave one day."Oh...Colder..." She sounded sad and sleepy. Her voice dragged him out of the bitter memory."Are you cold?" He groaned in a hard voice."Your eyes they got colder..." She swallowed, "...filled with so much hate."He can't bear to stare at her face for long because no matter how he tries....he must still see her. King Zorvath's daughter. "I hate you, Seraphine."Her lips twitched and she blinked ever so slowly. "I know....My King."He looked away. She placed a hand on his chest. "There are scars here too... Internal scars. Here they seem bigger there...in your heart.""They are.""Can they ever heal?""No.""That's sad."He laid her back on the bed and pulled away. He got up. "Go back to sleep." he said curtly, "You'll be fine on the morrow."Through her dazed eyes, she watched him leave. She watched him walk like a panther as he went to the table and dropped the water back. A huge wounded panther. She watche
When she was done, Draven withdrew the cup and tried to get up but she clung to him, her dazed eyes staring at his. "So cold..""You're cold?" He asked with a furrowed brow, knowing that the room is not cold at all."Your eyes...they're so cold..." She whispered.Draven said nothing, knowing that the woman isn't herself. She was heavily induced on pills and potions, and they have side effects. He knows that she won't remember any of these in the morning. And so, he just stared at her. It's the first time he allowed himself to stare at her so up close. The first time he allowed himself to really look at her.To see Seraphine...not __King ZorvathDaughter. She's beautiful. The knowledge went to his cold heart and whispered on it. Beautiful and so pure-looking.Like a woman who never saw the rough side of their world. Like a princess. She has a bow mouth, sharply pointed nose that took in sharp breaths, and deep blue eyes that stared up at him in a daze. Her beauty rivaled many. For the
Maela finished mixing the concoction and forced it down Seraphine's throat. She was still unconscious and the concoction was to make her sleep well.Ravik was already waiting by the door when she was done. She nodded her head, signaling that he could take her now.He bent down and lifted Seraphine up the same way he carried her into her room. Her midriff on his shoulder, her back in the air. When he got to Draven's room, he was sitting down behind his desk, writing. He didn't look up when they entered."Make a bed for her down there." He pointed to his own bed."Already on it, my king." Maela replied.Within minutes, she and Briella had another high big bed on the floor, beside the king's bed. They spread a fresh new bedsheet on it and built a tent around it.Ravik laid her face down on it and gently turned her head to the side. They watched her even breathing for a few seconds before they turned away.Briella was so uncomfortable with this development. The king hates the princess and
Long minutes dragged by. Maela finished mixing her herbs, and she began carefully applying them to Seraphine’s wounds.Briella helped her, squeezing out water from each scoop of the wet, ground leaves, and then pressing the healing mixture gently onto the princess’s injuries.Briella felt a measure of relief that Seraphine was unconscious. The pain she had endured today was unimaginable, and her princess had already suffered far too much.Draven still leaned silently against the door, even though he had long sent Ravik away. He hadn’t spoken a word, only taking in every detail with those sharp, unreadable eyes. Finally, Maela spoke. "All done."Briella let out a long, shaky sigh as she looked over the treated wounds. Tears filled her eyes again at the sight of her princess’s back—a chaotic map of green leaves and healing herbs.Maela turned to the king. "I’ll give her some concoctions to help her sleep deeply and fully. She needs all the rest she can get, and these herbs won’t counter
