Charlotte:

The forest had never felt so suffocating. And never did I find myself feeling as alone as I felt today.

Each step through the thick underbrush was heavy, my legs aching, my body chilled from the cold bite of the wind that refused to die down. The world around me was quiet, unnervingly so, as if the trees themselves were holding their breath, watching me wander like a ghost. Like the whole world was mocking my luck, once again.

Just when I thought that maybe I had another chance, that maybe I was not alone… here I was, all alone, all over again.

Again, a rogue.

Again, forgotten.

Again, exiled.

And again, unwanted.

I didn’t know how long I’d been walking. Hours, maybe. Long enough for the pain in my chest to settle into a dull throb, and long enough for the weight of Ashton’s voice to echo one too many times in my head.

"You're not fit to be Luna."

"You were never meant to be mine."

I clenched my fists. The papers still burned in the satchel at my hip. The papers that he filed without thinking about me for a second. I didn’t even know when he had planned for this, and I didn’t know how long he’s been waiting for this chance. But I knew this, it was not just a today’s notice. He’s been planning this for a while now.

I hadn’t even had the energy to throw them away. What was the point? What was the point in me signing them? The decision was already made, and I assumed that he already had enough to break the marriage. He did not need my approval in this. But I still didn’t know what the point of carrying these papers around with me. I still didn’t know why I didn’t bother throwing them away.

I was tired. Of running. Of being accused. Of having to prove myself to people who would never see me. Tired of the same cycle playing in my mind again, and again, to no avail. Nothing was going to change. Neither one of them is going to want me. I doubted that anyone would want me anyway.

The wind shifted suddenly, bringing with it a new scent, clean, masculine, powerful.

My wolf whimpered, and then grew alert.

She was giving me a warning.

I froze.

Wolves.

Not Crescent Moon wolves.

Not ones I recognized.

I was on different grounds. Grounds that belonged to someone else…

I turned, slowly scanning the forest, but it was already too late.

A shadow stepped from between two thick pines, tall and broad and radiating authority like a second skin. Behind him came another, leaner, quicker, with sharp eyes and a calculating gaze.

Alphas.

And I was a rogue in their territory.

I stepped back, nearly tripping. My eyes widened as I tried to escape them, or at least, think of a place to run away from them.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cross your boarders. I was not aware…” again, I nearly tripped.

“Easy,” the taller one said, lifting his hands slightly. His voice was low and calm, but it carried the unmistakable edge of command. “I’m not here to hurt you. You’ve crossed the boarders, I agree, but you seem to be lost.”

I said nothing, lowering my stance just slightly, ready to run if I needed to. His voice was soft as he spoke, as if showing me that he was not here to hurt me. I wanted to run, my wolf wanted me to run, but somehow, she found it in herself to loosen. She was not afraid, not as much as I would have expected her to be.

The second one, his Beta, I guessed, tilted his head, eyes narrowing. He studied my expression for a moment too long before choosing to speak.

“You’re not just any rogue,” he muttered. “That scent. You’re… Crescent Moon. And I think that you know that you don’t belong here.”

I flinched before I could stop myself. The Alpha took a step closer, but stopped himself when he saw how timid I looked.

“Interesting.” He said, eyeing me carefully as if I was some prey that they were examining. Maybe I was…

“I’m no threat,” I said flatly. “Just passing through. As I said, I am lost and was not aware that I had crossed your boundaries, I apologize.”

“You’re alone,” the Beta said, stepping closer. “You smell like heartbreak and rejection. Tell me, did your mate cast you out, Luna?”

I stiffened. “Don’t call me that.”

The Alpha took another step forward, his gaze steady, not unkind. He looked at his beta, who nodded and took a step back. “What’s your name?”

“Charlotte.”

His eyes flickered in recognition, just a flicker, but I caught it.

Then he nodded once, slowly. “I’m Xavier. Alpha of Blackridge.”

Blackridge. Ashton’s rival pack. The one Crescent Moon whispered about like it was cursed. Ruthless. Unforgiving.

And here he was, looking at me like I wasn’t worthless. Like he was curious. Like he was showing me that he was not here to harm me.

“You’re far from home, Charlotte,” Alpha Xavier said.

“Not by choice,” I replied. “I wouldn’t be here if it was.”

The Beta looked between us, then raised a brow. “Alpha, we should keep moving. She could be trouble.”

“She’s already in trouble,” Xavier said without looking away from me. “But I don’t think she’s the one who caused it.”

I swallowed hard. “I didn’t come here to beg for help. I am going to leave once I find the right path to do so.”

“I didn’t offer any,” Xavier said calmly. “But you look like someone who’s got nowhere else to go. And I doubt that a woman like yourself should be roaming around, alone, as a rogue, in the middle of the night.”

He turned then, just slightly, nodding toward the shadows beyond the trees. “There’s a house a few miles north. Ours. It’s warm. And you’ll be safe. There’s food. You can stay the night. Decide what comes after when the sun rises.”

I didn’t move.

He didn’t wait.

Xavier and his Beta walked off, vanishing slowly into the misty trees. But just before he disappeared completely, I heard him call back…

“When you’ve lost everything, the last thing you should throw away is a second chance.”

I stared into the woods long after they were gone.

And then, slowly, I began to walk.

  • Comeback Of The Rejected Luna    CHAPTER 56

Xavier: Alessandro had just told me there were two of the elders in the council demanding to see me. At first, I thought this had to do with me missing two council meetings in a row, but this was not the first time that had happened. “Are you sure you have no idea why they are here?” I asked Alessandro for the second time. “I don’t, I tried to talk to them but they wouldn’t talk to me,” He replied, while glaring at me. “This is strange, they hardly come over here except it’s really important,” I whispered to myself. “Are you and Charlotte officially like an item now?” Alessandro asked with a smile. “Mind your business,” I responded, jokingly walking into the living room. “Sorry for keeping you waiting,” I pleaded, taking a seat opposite both of them. “We were supposed to have a council meeting tomorrow, this could not wait till then?. “Yes, it absolutely cannot wait,” Elder Thomas replied with a frown. “Go on then,” I stated. “There have been different rumors flying around

Charlotte: I was tired of pushing Xavier away and constantly trying to suppress my feelings for him. I didn't want him as a friend or only needed him for revenge; I also wanted more, but was terrified of completely giving in to another man and jeopardizing my revenge plans. I slowly placed my lips on his and kissed him so intensely, but Xavier gently pulled me away from me. He looked so stunned that it made my heart skip a beat. “Are you sure about this? You are not doing this because of the situation with your father?” He asked, gazing at me with so much love in his eyes. I had no idea how I managed to resist him for so long, but I was done holding back. “Shut up and just kiss me back,” I murmured, gently pulling him closer to me. Xavirer instantly kissed me so passionately that it sent shivers down my spine. I had never been kissed this way. With Ashton, sex was always a punishment. He either had sex with me whenever he was upset or wanted to prove a point; it was his way

Xavier: I was standing some feet away from where Charlotte's father was in order to help her if you lost control again. From what I could overhear, the conversation didn’t go too well. I watched as Charlotte walked away angrily before stepping forward to have a conversation with Ethan Beta. “I have a daughter,” He said, after noticing I was walking towards him. “Yes, you do,” I replied, taking a seat opposite him. “She talked about living in a home where she was not loved. Do you have any idea what she might have been talking about?” Beta Ethan asked. He seemed pretty interested in knowing about his daughter, but it was just not in my place to tell him. This could get Charlotte angry. “She went through a lot of fucked up things but that’s all i can tell you,” I muttered. “I’m going to go do everything in my power to make sure she forgives me. I will never give up on her or abandon her like I did to her mother,” He said. “Good,” I mouthed, nodding my head. Charlotte, having

Charlotte: I could see my father getting into his car but before he closed the door, he seemed to have noticed me running towards him. “You again,” I heard him say. “You cannot leave, we need to talk,” I stated, watching him walk out of the car. “What could we possibly have to talk about? A few minutes ago, all you wanted was to get away from me,” He asked. “We have to talk about the fact that you are my father,” I answered. I didn't know if this was the best way possible to tell him, but I could see how shocked he was. “I am the daughter of Aria, the woman whom you didn't want to have anything to do with. For your information, she is dead and you are responsible for her death,” I stated angrily. I could feel my claws ripping from my fingertips and this only happened once I got too angry. “Why don't you come in so we can talk about this?” Xavier said. He seemed to have been listening to our conversation and must have noticed what was happening to me. Beta Ethan, who still

Charlotte: Seeing the man responsible for everything I had to go through walking towards me made me furious. All the memories of what I had gone through flashed through my mind. It made me so mad that Xavier went behind my back and invited him to the house despite my objections. “You did this? You invited him here?” I whispered to him, tightening my hands, which were trembling from all the emotions I was going through all at once. “I didn’t, Charlotte. I have no idea why he is here, he has not visited in years,” Xavier replied in a low tone before walking towards my father. “What a pleasant surprise,” Xavier said while I stared angrily, thinking of what to do. I could not just stand to see him so happy, he had a huge smile on his face that pissed me off. “I was just passing the pack and needed somewhere to stay for the night. My car broke down a few miles from here,” Ethan replied, Xavier as they both walked towards me. “That’s not a problem at all, I am glad you are here. I

Xavier: The long drive back to the pack was a pretty silent one. Charlotte still had her sunglasses on, and I could tell it was a way of keeping me from seeing how red swollen her eyes were. A lot happened on this trip, but I was glad Charlotte found out about her amazing and strong mother. I wished she could also give her father a chance, but it was completely up to her. I was sure any decision she made was going to be for the best. “We have arrived, Charlotte,” I muttered slowly after parking the car, trying not to startle her. “Ohh,” She mumbled, looking at me. “You should go get some rest, your bags will be brought to your room,” I said. “I am so glad you came with me on this trip, Xavier, but it's all over now., I know all I need to know. We need to start with our revenge plan; we have wasted too much time,” Charlotte answered. For some reason, I was hoping she would have lost interest in revenge plan or maybe even let it go, but after seeing how determined she was, it w

Author: It has been days since Ashton gathered his best soldiers and demanded they find out what Charlotte and Xavier have been up to. None of them have found out tangible information he could use and this was starting to piss him off. Lydia, on the other hand, was not helping the situation at all as she kept pestering him to either find a way to defeat Charlotte and Xavier or fight them. However, Ashton knows very well how powerful Xavier is. He just could not fight him yet, not until he figured out exactly what was up. Ashton had just finished his dinner when the captain of the pack soldiers walked in. He was happy to see him and instantly walked towards him with a smile on his face. “Tell me you have found out something we can work it,” He said excitedly, but after noticing the cold look on the captain’s face, he could tell he had no good news. “I’m sorry, Alpha. The security at the border was so tight, we just could not enter into their pack,” The captain responded, his fa

  • Comeback Of The Rejected Luna    CHAPTER 49

Charlotte As Xavier drove us to the cemetery, I couldn’t help but think about my life all over again. First I was a badly treated daughter from a family I was sure didn’t love me. Next, I was the girl that murdered her sister, from being accused of murder, to being made to marry an heartless alpha who constantly belittled me, crushed my self esteem and visibly hated me. Few months in, I was thrown out of Ashton’s pack by the same sister I was accused of murdering. I became a girl that roamed about in the woods for hours before Xavier finally came to my rescue. Since Xavier rescued me from the wood, it has been from one thing to another also. From finding out I was adopted to trying to find my parents to discovering that Xavier and I were from the same lineage. As I thought about all these, I fought back hot tears as I didn’t want Xavier to see me crying again. “Are you okay?” Xavier asked me with his eyes fixed on the road. I nodded. I knew if I attempted to open my mou

  • Comeback Of The Rejected Luna    CHAPTER 48

Xavier Charlotte’s expression instantly changed after I finished speaking. “I need to go get ready for bed so we can leave early tomorrow ,” She said as she stood up and went into the shower. I watched as she walked away , and I knew, of course, that she did not feel the best way about her situation right now. “Or was it the conversation about Ashton that pissed her off?” I asked myself. I shook my head, “ I don’t think this is about Ashton” If it was about Ashton, I don’t think she would worry this much. Also, I already told her that I will take care of Ashton and protect her from him so she has nothing to worry about. After thinking about it for a few more seconds, I got up and laid back in bed too. The next morning, the sound of charlotte packing woke me up very early in the morning. I wondered if she got any sleep at all as I watched her pack her bags. She turned swiftly to look at me and I had to close my eyes again, pretending to still be asleep. As I closed
