Xavier:

The moment I laid eyes on her, my wolf went silent.

It was her son that pushed me towards the forest, but I did not expect for my wolf to go quiet over a woman, regardless of who she was. I did not know, but I knew this, the bond that formed between us the second that my eyes laid on her was one that I did not expect.

Then came the weight, everything snapping back into place. Tethering, yanking tight, wrapping around my chest, deep in my bones. My wolf growled, but not in warning, but in recognition.

Mate.

But she didn’t feel it.

If anything, she seemed to be completely oblivious of it.

She stood before me bruised by betrayal, reeking of Crescent Moon… and heartbreak. Her scent was off, frayed at the edges, like a thread unraveling from too much pain. The bond pulsed beneath my skin, but hers didn’t respond. She did not feel it, or maybe she did. Her wolf was just concealing it. She was in too much pain for her to recognize it.

It didn’t matter.

For now, I did not want to push her. For now, I knew better than to do so.

I buried the instinct. Suppressed the primal need clawing at me. Now wasn’t the time. She didn’t need another Alpha hovering over her, demanding answers or claiming rights she didn’t recognize. And I could tell, despite him being possessive, that my wolf understood that he understood the need to be patient when it came to something like this, when it came to a situation like this one.

She needed air. She needed space. And maybe… a place to fall apart. A place for her to feel safe one way or the other.

When she followed me into Blackridge territory, I didn’t look back, but my wolf settled. Satisfied.

She came.

This was a start. I was not going to need to roam around the forest searching for her the next morning.

As the pack house came into view, massive, stone-walled, covered in ivy and shadow, I watched her slow, her steps faltering.

Surprise flickered in her tired eyes.

“You expected caves and fire pits, didn’t you?” I asked, half amused. “I genuinely am curious about what you're thinking right now.”

Charlotte didn’t answer, but her silence said enough. She looked down at her feet, wrapping her arm around herself. My eyes softened, but I did not press on the subject.

“This way,” I said, pushing open the heavy door. The warmth of the interior rolled out into the night like a welcome embrace. The pack house was alive, dim light from chandeliers, the scent of food, distant laughter echoing from the hearth room. Everyone was busy with something, each one knew their duties, but right now it was time for them to rest. It was time for them to enjoy their evening. It was a long day anyway.

She stepped inside cautiously, like she was waiting for someone to throw her back out.

Not here. Not again.

“Emilia,” I called. One of the house maids appeared within seconds. “Prepare a room for our guest. Full service. I want it spotless. If she needs anything, be sure to provide it. No need to come to me first, just provide it then inform me and I want to hear of it personally.”

She nodded and vanished.

“Get her something warm to eat,” I added. “And send some of the women to give her new clothes.”

Charlotte looked at me sharply. “That’s not necessary…”

“It is,” I said simply. “There’s a shower in the room. Clean towels. Fresh sheets. If you need anything, just ask. You're going to need to rest, and I doubt that you would want to do that in muddied and torn clothes, would you?”

She crossed her arms, guarded. “Why are you doing this?”

I looked at her for a long moment. The bruises beneath her surface weren’t physical, but I could still see them. In the way she stood. In the way she spoke. And the way that you wrapped her arm around herself, The way that she studied my expression.

“You look like someone who’s been carrying the weight of the world with no one to help, I don't know what brought you in my territory, nor do I know why you've been walking around for a while. And judging by the way that you look, it seems to me that you've been alone for a while. At least a few hours.” I said. “I’m not asking questions tonight. You’re safe here. No one's going to harm you, nor are they going to ask you any questions. You got to rest.”

Her jaw tightened. “I’m not weak. And I don't need your sympathy.”

“I didn’t say you were.” I said, nodding at her. “Nor did I offer you any sympathy.”

She took a step back, clearly ready to argue, to hold her ground. Even now, she didn’t know how to let her guard down.

I stepped closer. Not enough to overwhelm, just enough for her to feel that I wasn’t going to budge.

“Rest, Charlotte,” I said. “Whatever you want to say… it can wait until morning.”

For a second, I saw the fire in her eyes. I waited for what she was going to throw at me. I waited for an argument. This was something that intrigued me, a woman that knew what she wanted.

But just as she opened her mouth to speak, it was as if her exhaustion overtook her. It was as if her own body begged to rest.

She looked away and nodded once.

I watched her follow the maids upstairs without another word. My wolf stirred again, watching our mate disappear into the hall of our home. A small smirk formed on my lips before I turned to my beta, Alessandro, who raised an amused eyebrow. I looked away from him and turned my attention to her. At least where she had been.

She didn’t know yet.

But she was never leaving this place.

Not unless I was walking beside her.

Xavier: Charlotte was tensed, so tense that it was visible on her face. “I didn’t know the pack members were going to be here,” She mumbled, looking towards me. “I had no idea they were also going to be here, it must have gotten around that I was going to be having a meeting with the council members today,” I said. “It is going to be fine, they are not going to present in the meeting.” Charlotte nodded her head, and we all made our way into the hall, but as we entered, we ran into Damon. Damon was one of the strong contenders for the Alpha position, but since I was the most qualified for it, he has detested me since then. “Hi, Xavier,” He said with a sly smile. “What are you doing here?” I asked in a low tone. “Rude, I came here to see the beautiful rogue every member of the pack has been talking about.” He replied, gazing at Charlotte. “No, you didn’t come here for that. You came here to see me get humiliated,” I stated. “She’s really beautiful, I must say, but you know

Charlotte: It has been about ten minutes now since Xavier left with my father. I was curious about what they could be discussing, but I figured it must have to do with the pack. Feeling bored, I stood up and paced around the house, which looked pretty empty to me. There were no pictures or anything that indicated that he had a family. “He probably doesn’t keep their pictures here,” I whispered to myself, looking around, but heard footsteps walking towards me and rushed back to where I was seated. “Sorry we took so long,” Ethan said, walking into the living room with Xavier, whose facial expression had changed. I couldn’t really place my fingers on it, but after spending so much time with him, I knew something was definitely up with him. He always tried to avoid eye contact with me once he knew something I didn’t, and he was doing it now. “The food will be ready in a few minutes. Can I show you around the house in the meantime?” Ethan asked. “Yes,” I muttered. Although the la

Xavier: I know how Charlotte badly wanted this but sometimes it was just a lot to handle. Now that things were good with us, I wanted to spend all my time with her and have her full attention. Maybe this was selfish of me but I was just too into her. She seemed more invested in the revenge, but I could not blame her. I knew about this from the start and still decided to stick by her. “We are here,” I announced after driving for about half an hour. I then parked the car, but could see Charlotte staring at her father's house blankly. “It’s not too late for you to back out,” I muttered, trying to see if she was really good with this. “I have got this,” She responded, walking out of the car. I instantly rushed down and followed her inside the house. We were led into the living room by the maids and offered water but Charlotte refused to have anything. I could tell by the look on her face that she just could not wait to get over and done with the situation. “Beta Ethan is current

Charlotte: I understood Xavier was trying to protect, but I was willing to do whatever I had to do to fix this mess. He was in this situation because of me. Seeing that he was hesitant to tell me what he had in mind, I decided to give him a solution myself. “Ethan is a really powerful member of your pack; the council members would not have a problem anymore once they find out he is my biological father,” I said. I was not okay with Ethan publicly announcing that he was my father, but I had no other option. This just seemed like the easier way out. “I cannot possibly let you do what you are uncomfortable with, you do not accept him as your father,” Xavier said. “He did say he would do anything to get me to forgive me, coming forward and telling the council members he is my father is a start,” I stated. “We can go over to wherever he is to talk to him, I will do it myself.” I found it impressive that even though Xavier was concerned about his pack’s reputation, he didn’t want

Xavier: Alessandro had just told me there were two of the elders in the council demanding to see me. At first, I thought this had to do with me missing two council meetings in a row, but this was not the first time that had happened. “Are you sure you have no idea why they are here?” I asked Alessandro for the second time. “I don’t, I tried to talk to them but they wouldn’t talk to me,” He replied, while glaring at me. “This is strange, they hardly come over here except it’s really important,” I whispered to myself. “Are you and Charlotte officially like an item now?” Alessandro asked with a smile. “Mind your business,” I responded, jokingly walking into the living room. “Sorry for keeping you waiting,” I pleaded, taking a seat opposite both of them. “We were supposed to have a council meeting tomorrow, this could not wait till then?. “Yes, it absolutely cannot wait,” Elder Thomas replied with a frown. “Go on then,” I stated. “There have been different rumors flying around

Charlotte: I was tired of pushing Xavier away and constantly trying to suppress my feelings for him. I didn't want him as a friend or only needed him for revenge; I also wanted more, but was terrified of completely giving in to another man and jeopardizing my revenge plans. I slowly placed my lips on his and kissed him so intensely, but Xavier gently pulled me away from me. He looked so stunned that it made my heart skip a beat. “Are you sure about this? You are not doing this because of the situation with your father?” He asked, gazing at me with so much love in his eyes. I had no idea how I managed to resist him for so long, but I was done holding back. “Shut up and just kiss me back,” I murmured, gently pulling him closer to me. Xavirer instantly kissed me so passionately that it sent shivers down my spine. I had never been kissed this way. With Ashton, sex was always a punishment. He either had sex with me whenever he was upset or wanted to prove a point; it was his way

Xavier: I was standing some feet away from where Charlotte's father was in order to help her if you lost control again. From what I could overhear, the conversation didn’t go too well. I watched as Charlotte walked away angrily before stepping forward to have a conversation with Ethan Beta. “I have a daughter,” He said, after noticing I was walking towards him. “Yes, you do,” I replied, taking a seat opposite him. “She talked about living in a home where she was not loved. Do you have any idea what she might have been talking about?” Beta Ethan asked. He seemed pretty interested in knowing about his daughter, but it was just not in my place to tell him. This could get Charlotte angry. “She went through a lot of fucked up things but that’s all i can tell you,” I muttered. “I’m going to go do everything in my power to make sure she forgives me. I will never give up on her or abandon her like I did to her mother,” He said. “Good,” I mouthed, nodding my head. Charlotte, having

Charlotte: I could see my father getting into his car but before he closed the door, he seemed to have noticed me running towards him. “You again,” I heard him say. “You cannot leave, we need to talk,” I stated, watching him walk out of the car. “What could we possibly have to talk about? A few minutes ago, all you wanted was to get away from me,” He asked. “We have to talk about the fact that you are my father,” I answered. I didn't know if this was the best way possible to tell him, but I could see how shocked he was. “I am the daughter of Aria, the woman whom you didn't want to have anything to do with. For your information, she is dead and you are responsible for her death,” I stated angrily. I could feel my claws ripping from my fingertips and this only happened once I got too angry. “Why don't you come in so we can talk about this?” Xavier said. He seemed to have been listening to our conversation and must have noticed what was happening to me. Beta Ethan, who still
