Chapter 3

مؤلف: Stars
With his jaw dropping wide open, the man lunged for my throat.

Thinking on my feet, I stuffed a handkerchief into his mouth and knocked him down to the floor with a kick.

The big guy wasn’t so tough, after all. He folded like a house of cards.

Trevor said that the necklace held a Cerberus.

Who was this weakling?

The man hadn’t realized how frail his body had become, likely from not feeding for far too long.

“Don’t get ahead of yourself, woman. I’ll show you a real fight once I’ve had some sustenance.”

“Yeah, yeah,” I replied dismissively while gathering some tomatoes from my little patch garden.

It made sense to keep the man alive, seeing that he was a gift from my ex-husband.

The man glanced at the tomatoes in my hand before his gaze fell back on me.

His eyes practically screamed, “Are you kidding me?”

“Take it or leave it.” I was infuriated.

He had the nerve to snub my home-grown, organic, and pesticide-free produce!

Lost in his emotions, the man took a while before hissing, “Fine.”

It wasn’t until he had stripped my vegetable patch bare that he gained the strength to get on his feet. Still, his face remained pale.

“Do you know who I am?”

I shook my head.

“I am your greatest nightmare, the very thing you fear the most.”

My eyes widened. “Are you—”

The man nodded in relief.

“Poor?”

“I am Ryker Ashcroft, the Vampire Lord.”

The nerve of Trevor to give me a necklace with the Vampire Lord sealed inside.

Legend had it that the werewolves and vampires had been at war for centuries. During the Great War three years ago, both races suffered massive losses. Trevor sealed Ryker away while Ryker’s last attack left Trevor with severe injuries and amnesia.

Clearly, Trevor had tamed Ryker, given that he was presented as a gift.

I examined my deluxe package from head to toe.

Judging by his broad shoulders, narrow waist, and good looks, he was a definite heart throb.

He wore nothing but a clock around his shoulders, his bare chest peeking out.

A deep scar ran across his chest, likely the work of Trevor.

Concerned that his weak frame might slow things down on the farm, I asked, “Vampires fear the sun. Don’t you?”

Ryker scoffed and uttered in delight, “Only the lowly dread sunlight. I am the leader of my kind, so the sun doesn’t burn me anymore. Nothing can kill me now!”

“Oh,” I responded indifferently.

“In that case, how did Trevor manage to seal you in a rock?”

Ryker’s eyes glistened with resentment.

“Trevor cheated! He ambushed me while I was in the bath. I wouldn’t have been locked away otherwise.”

I made a face. “By your account, everybody must have seen you naked. It’s a bit much for me.”

Ryker’s face turned red with rage.

He looked at me warily. “Wow, you have a tongue on you.

“I’m going to give you a chance of a lifetime. You can live as long as I do if you let me turn you.”

It was getting late.

I had a long day of herding ahead of me. To save my strength, I slipped under the covers.

“Thanks, but no thanks. I just want to sleep.”

While in slumber, I could pick up on a presence approaching and tucking me tight in bed.

How sweet.

Trevor used to do the same when I went to bed.

Somehow, I developed the habit of falling asleep in someone else’s arms.

I rolled over and pulled him into a firm embrace.

Ryker put up a fight at first.

I smacked him in annoyance.

“Shut it!”

Sure enough, silence fell.

Lying still, Ryker was trapped in my grip the whole night.

For once, I slept like a baby.

Before Trevor could get far, he felt a tug on his arm. “Rhea, are you coming back with—” He looked back to find a lamb grabbing his sleeve by its teeth. I explained, “This one’s a little suicidal. Why don’t you take it along with you? You can use it as emergency rations for your trip back.” Trevor thanked me. He picked the lamb up and took off. Much to the lamb’s disappointment, it didn’t turn into dinner. Trevor raised the lamb, giving it the best care possible. Later, Trevor often used the lamb as an excuse to write me letters. He would talk about the lamb’s poor appetite or updates on shearing it. However, most of the letters didn’t make it to me because Ryker burned them. I had to write Trevor back to end things once and for all. “Alpha Beaumont, you have a pack to run. Your busy schedule should keep you from obsessing over a lamb.“Don’t use it as an excuse to stay in touch with me. “Stop writing to me, or my husband will have something to say about it.”

Of course, we didn’t sell Trevor to the witches. We set him up in our guest room, so he could heal. Ryker took it upon himself to take care of Trevor. I was relieved, but the feeling didn’t last long. Ryker brought Trevor’s medicine into the sheep pen to add some organic ingredients. Ryker slapped Trevor across the face while administering the medicine. “Open wide!“Aren’t werewolves supposed to be strong? How are you so fragile? How long are you going to keep up with this act?” Trevor refused to open his mouth despite his swollen cheeks. As I pulled a grimace, Ryker played dumb and said, “His face attacked my hand, darling. Look, my palm is all red.” I kicked Ryker out of the room. “That’s enough. Are you trying to get him killed?” Trevor complained about the aches when he regained consciousness. His face was throbbing, and his breath smelled questionable. “Kiss me, Rhea. Your kiss will make the pain go away.” I held the medicine and let out a sigh. “Trevor,

Trevor’s mind slipped back to the days when we herded sheep together. His memory was stuck in the time when we were still married. Sticking close to my side, he took my hand. I tried to break free, only for Trevor to tighten his grip. He sounded hurt. “What’s wrong, Rhea? My head hurts. Can you make the pain go away? He must’ve suffered a concussion to the head when falling down the slope, resulting in another bout of amnesia. Not one to pick a fight with the injured, I let him hold my hand. We took the winding path back to the familiar farm. Everything remained the same, except for a canopy standing in the field. Though the sun wouldn’t burn Ryker, his vampire nature kept him from ever being fond of daylight.I took notice of a slight grimace in Trevor’s eyes. Nevertheless, it didn’t take long for him to get a grip on himself. He batted his eyes at me. He carried a broad smile as if he owned the place, herding the sheep into the pen before rolling his sleeves up to c

With his powers, Ryker restored the ruined farm to its former glory. It was as if nothing had ever happened. The village was now without a shepherdess. The woman was once Trevor’s human mate. The monsters escaped this time because of Trevor’s negligence. He was called before the Alpha King, though not for that reason. The Alpha King asked, “At what point in time did your former mate establish contact with the Vampire Lord? “Did you divulge any pack secrets to her? If she betrays our pack by spilling secrets to the Vampire Lord, what then?” The situation was critical, with the wolf pack’s safety at stake. The Alpha King gave Trevor the ultimatum. It was between killing me or facing the pack’s revered torture. Trevor chose the latter. He passed out under the weight of the penalty. By the time he came to, he was handed a letter. “The letter was left by a Rhea Green. It’s only for your eyes.” One wolf sneered, “She’s playing games by joining those bloodsuckers in ge

I was startled awake by a commotion in the middle of the night. Amid the darkness, I heard frantic cries of monsters attacking the village. A horde of colossal monsters, jaws dripping with blood, stormed the village. The ground trembled beneath their feet, homes were destroyed, and the villagers scattered in terror.“Monsters! Run!” I recalled that the werewolves defeated these monsters years ago and kept them under lock and key. They must have escaped due to some lapse in security. Humans were weak and small against these horrors. A piercing howl cut through the air from the distant mountains. “Get back, humans! We will deal with these monsters!” It was Trevor’s voice. Shifting into his wolf form, Trevor led his pack to intercept the attackers and bought time for the humans to escape. I let out a sigh of relief. It was a good thing Trevor regained his memories. He was no longer stuck in this tiny place. I ran with the crowd. As people clutched to their livestock

The men in black nearly lost their minds when they saw their lordship washing a human woman’s feet on his knees. Their knees hit the ground as they howled, “My Lord, what you have been through? We’ll kill this human and free you now!” They pulled out their swords to behead me. Ryker glared at them. “Insolence! Get out!” The armed group dropped their swords with loud clatters and lowered their heads before me. “Humiliate us if you must, but please spare our lordship.” I stared at the mass in black in front of me, baffled, and asked Ryker, “Babe, are they here for you? Are they staying for dinner?” One even broke into tears. “My Lord, it’s bad enough that this woman enslaves you, but she even disgraces your name. It’s clear that you have it rough here. Don’t worry. We’ll get you out even if it kills us.” The veins along Ryker’s temples pulsed in annoyance. After shooting the offender a menacing look, he said grimacingly, “I won’t be polite if you don’t leave now.” The i
