"If you were one of the girls at the auction," he said casually, "you'd have been easy to handle."

He turned his head slightly, grinning up at me. "Still... I wouldn't trade this stubborn version of you for anything."

I smacked him on the head with the dryer.

Was that supposed to be a compliment?

"Fuck!" he winced, laughing.

"You're sick."

"I was just saying..."

I made to hit him again, but a knock at the door saved him.

"I'll get it," he said quickly, already halfway there.

I placed the dryer down and stared at the mirror. It looked back at me, cold and judging, reflecting a woman letting herself be touched by the very man she should hate.

Fuck you.

He returned a few minutes later with a black bag.

He sat beside me, pulling out a small box. Inside was a silver necklace, the heart shaped emerald pendant shimmered in the light.

"I had it custom made for you," he smiled, putting it around my neck without asking.

His fingers brushing against my collarbone. "Beautiful
