LOGINChristopher POV
“I’m the one taking this beautiful damsel away from you,” I said, my arm still stretched out protectively in front of her.
He let out a mocking laugh, his eyes shifting between me and her. “And here I thought I was the only one cheating, not knowing you were also spreading your legs,” he said in a very demeaning tone.
Instantly, I felt an urge to protect her and quickly threw a punch.
“That is no way to talk to a lady,” I said, watching him closely to see if he would fight back.
Luckily, he didn’t retaliate. He just looked at me, then at her, as if contemplating what to do.
“I am in no mood for your drama,” he said as he walked away.
“Let me help you,” I said, my focus now on her.
But she shoved my hands away.
“What the hell? Did you just do that?”
“I just saved you.”
“Saved me?” she scoffed.
“From what or who exactly?” she asked as she stood up.
“Next time, mind your business,” she said as she tried to go after him, but I caught her wrist. She struggled, twisting, hitting me, trying to break free, but I held on. Then, all at once, her strength gave way, and she fell to the ground, crying.
I stood there, useless, watching her crumble. My heart felt the pain, wishing she would stop crying.
I cleared my throat, staring at her, hoping this would make her stop crying.
“I’m not a man who likes to beat around the bush,” I said quietly. “So I’ll just say it: marry me.”
Her sobs stopped almost immediately. Slowly, she lifted her head, her tear-streaked face staring at me in disbelief.
“This time,” I said, forcing myself to meet her gaze, “it isn’t a slip of the tongue. I mean it.”
She laughed bitterly as she stood up, brushing her tears away. “My life must be a comedy. My husband cheats on me, and now some stranger thinks I’m a lunatic in need of love.”
I smirked faintly. “You’re not a lunatic. You’re a woman who deserves better.”
“Better?” she scoffed. “From you?”
“I don’t promise perfection,” I said, stepping closer to her, just to see her gorgeous face clearly. “But I can promise to treat you like a queen, something your husband or whatever clearly forgot how to.”
She froze, just for a second, staring at me in confusion.
“It’s crazy, I know,” I continued. “Hell, it doesn’t even make sense to me. I don’t believe in love at first sight, but you… you’ve got my heart doing things it hasn’t done for a long time. And I don’t want to lose that feeling, not again. Even if it means marrying…”
Before I could finish, a hard slap landed across my cheek—the kind of slap that can make you see stars.
She looked at me, giving me that look that said, don’t ever spill such nonsense again.
Then she turned and walked out without saying a word.
I stood there, rubbing my cheek in pain and, at the same time, feeling stupid.
I wasn’t a man of love—not after what happened with Joanne. I saw love as a nightmare, but seeing her changed everything about my belief.
I didn’t know her name, and I was willing to marry her.
Maybe it was because of the stupid deal I had made with my father.
“Shit,” I cursed. Then my phone buzzed; it was my secretary.
I stared at it, then picked it up.
“Sir, we have a problem. A serious one,” my secretary said.
“What?”
“One of our biggest investors just pulled out of the deal,” he said quickly. “Apparently, the delay in the Phoenix Tech project has made them lose confidence, and the delay is because of a lack of communication from Celine.”
I exhaled deeply; work sure didn’t care about my emotions.
“I am at the office. I’ll just deal with it,” I said as I cut the call.
I sighed. Maybe this could be a way of getting her off my mind.
And this Celine girl was clearly asking to be fired. Truth be told, the only reason I hadn’t fired her yet was because of my father. The old man believed in her more than he believed in me. He trusted her judgment, her ideas, her vision.
“That girl,” he once said, “is going to take this company further than you or I ever could.”
I walked straight to the reception desk. The receptionist, of course, didn’t know me. I quickly pulled out my business card, not wanting any delay. She stared at it and jumped up immediately.
“M-Mr. Hale,” she stammered, “I didn’t know you would be visiting today...”
“Is Celine in the building?” I asked impatiently.
“Yes, sir. She arrived not too long ago.”
“Good. Inform her that the boss wants to see her in the boardroom. Ten minutes.”
She looked at me, surprised—maybe because no one had ever seen me before in this branch. I never bothered myself with Sterling Holding; I usually left that to Lewis. But today was different. Today, someone had caused my company’s stocks to drop and nearly destroyed a deal worth billions of dollars.
I headed to the boardroom and sat down, thinking about what to say to her. At the same time, I couldn’t get that girl off my mind.
The seconds ticked by. I tapped my fingers against the table. Then I heard a knock at the door.
“Come in,” I shouted.
The door opened.
And the person I saw shocked me—it was the lady from earlier.
“You seriously are unbelievable. You do realize I can actually sue you for stalking me,” she said, barely allowing me to say a word.
“The next time I see you, I will charge you for being a stalker,” she added while walking out.
“Celine,” I said authoritatively, making sure my deep baritone voice was loud.
“I am Mr. Christopher, your boss.”
Third Person Pov“Put the things in the kitchen and start prepping. I will come out and join you once I change out of this outfit,” Celine told the maid as they entered the house after their shopping.“Ma’am? You want to cook?” the maid asked in shock.“Yes, of course,” Celine replied with a laugh, as if she had just been asked the obvious.“Okay, ma’am,” the maid smiled. “Should I start with cooking the meat, or?” She asked Celine for advice since she would be the one cooking.“No, just wash everything thoroughly. I’ll do the rest when I get—” Celine was replying when Christopher swept her off her feet and spun her around, laughing in joy.“Drop me down!” Celine said, terrified that he might slip and fall with her.He spun her some more and laughed before dropping her.“What happened? Why are you so excited?!” Celine asked Christopher in shock.“I just finalized a business deal with someone I’ve been speaking with for months now! He is willing to invest a lot in the company. Celine,
Third Person PovThe next day, Celine had a free day because she completed her work the day before. So all she had to do was relax at home and do whatever came to mind.“Let’s go shopping,” Celine said to the head of maids at the house.“Ma’am, you want to go shopping with me?” she asked Celine, as she was unsure what Celine was referring to when she said shopping.“Yeah. We can go grocery shopping together since I’m bored and the house needs them.”Immediately the maid heard that it was grocery shopping, she immediately calmed down and smiled, because she could not imagine herself giving the boss’s wife advice on which clothes to buy. She didn’t know anything about fashion and did not want to mess it up.She immediately went to the kitchen to get the list of things to buy before going to the butler for money and then going to Ma’am Celine to inform her that she was ready. The driver drove them to the nearby mall.Meanwhile, Rebecca went to the house to meet Celine. She finally came t
Third Person Pov Celine and Christopher laughed at themselves immediately Victoria left.“Your father will think I’m a negative influence!” Celine said as she hurriedly stood up.“Hmm, but I like you like that,” Christopher replied in a flirty tone, making Celine pause in her steps to look at him.She smiled before saying, “Stop with all the teasing. We need to hurry up and go down before your dad leaves,” she told him.“To make it fast, I can join you in the shower…” he joked, as he knew that they weren’t there yet.“Ha ha, very funny,” Celine said as she entered the bathroom. They both freshened up quickly before heading downstairs to see that breakfast was already waiting for them.“You’re finally here,” Richard said to them with a knowing smile on his face.“Sorry for keeping you waiting, Dad,” Christopher said.“Good morning, Dad. How was your night? I hope you slept well?” Celine asked him before kissing his cheeks.“Not as well as you both,” Victoria replied, teasing them bot
Third Person Pov“Celine? Are you awake?” Christopher called out to her.“Celine,” he called again, but this time he reached out to tap her.Celine was awake, but she was trying hard not to move. He didn’t let her go, though. He kept tapping her until she replied.“Yes? What do you want?” she asked as she turned to face him.“Why were you not replying to me?” Christopher asked her.“I’m trying to resist the weird energy between us, but you won’t take the hint!” she replied, frustrated. To her, it all felt like déjà vu, because this was not the first time she had slept in Christopher’s bed—but this time there was a sexual tension to it.While Christopher moved closer to her on the bed, with only an inch of space between them, he asked her calmly, maintaining eye contact, “What weird energy?”His breath fanned Celine’s face as he spoke, making it hard for her to form words—especially with his intense stare—but she had to speak. “This… I know you can feel it too,” she said.Christopher
Third Person Pov Celine immediately started crying heavily. Christopher was touched and shocked. He was surprised that she liked him that much, to the point of crying because of his sad past.“It’s all in the past now, you don’t need to cry,” he told Celine, trying to comfort her, which only made her cry harder.“Celine, why are you crying?” Christopher couldn’t handle it again, because no matter how he comforted her, she just continued crying.“Your story is so sad, and I’m just thinking of how, after everything you’ve gone through, you still ended up with someone who is as broken as I am,” she said as more tears fell from her eyes.“Celine, do not say that! You’re not broken.” Christopher went to her side immediately.“Do you know why Nathaniel divorced me?” she asked him seriously, making Christopher think before answering.“Because he cheated on you with Cassia?” he asked, thinking that she was comparing Cassia with Rebecca and scared that one of them would hurt her.“I wish that
Third person Pov “Can I join you?” Celine asked Christopher as she saw him drinking alone on their balcony.Christopher looked at her and smiled brightly. “Yeah, sure, why not? But do you drink scotch?” he asked, wondering if he should ask his butler to bring wine for her.“So you think I’m some baby that can’t handle my alcohol?” Celine teased.“I don’t mean to stereotype, but you don’t look like the alcohol type of girl,” he laughed before sipping from his glass.“You don’t mean to stereotype… was that before or after you did?” she laughed, pouring herself a glass and downing it immediately—only to end up choking on it.“Easy, easy… I know you want to prove that you can take scotch, don’t die trying,” he told her while laughing.“Ha-ha, very funny.”They joked and laughed until evening. That’s when the alcohol kicked in for both of them. They weren’t drunk, but the atmosphere and the alcohol made them more sensitive.“You know, there’s something I’ve been wanting to ask you for a w
