Celine Pov

"What did you say?" I asked her in shock, hoping I heard wrongly.

"I'm not going to repeat myself to you. Just come in before the neighbours see you crying embarrassingly, I don't want to be pegged as an evil mother-in-law," she said as she let me into her once warm house. I used to love coming here because it was like a second home, aside from my house with Nathaniel, but it doesn't feel anything like that now.

"Why are you speaking to me with so much hostility?" I asked her as I sat down.

"Here, clean the snot off your face, you look a mess." I took the tissue from her hands before whispering a quick "thank you."

"Well, you said my son cheated on you, right?" she asked me like it was an easy topic — said it as if she were talking about the weather or something trivial.

"So you heard what I said...and this is how you react?"

"Don't raise your voice in my house, Celine!" she scolded me, and I immediately felt bad. "You know I'll always defend and protect you over my son.
