Hailey's POV

"Come on, ladies. Let's get going," Patricia calls from the back seat of the limo.

We all head toward the cars, and I walk alongside Chloe and Alicia - the bride-to-be - to the second limousine.

"No, no," Rose says. "Hailey and Alicia, you're both riding with us in the first limo. Chloe, you've been with Hailey long enough. Let the oldies get the chance to know her."

"So let me join you guys then," Chloe whines.

Aunt Rose shakes her head. "Go with your sisters. You'll still see her at the picnic spot."

"But mum-"

"No buts, Chloe," she cuts her off. "You're a married woman, so don't make complaints like a child."

She grunts, but doesn't argue further.

"Now come on." Rose gently takes my hand, guiding me toward the car. Alicia follows behind us, a soft smile on her face.

I glance back just in time to see Jessica, Chloe’s younger sister, dragging her toward the other limo.

The chauffeur holds the door open for us and closes it once we're inside. I give him an apprec

  • Contract Marriage With My Ex's Boss   Ninety three

I return to the kitchen and place the box of chocolates on the counter, opening it. One glance at the sweets, and I realize that while in Levi's room, I'd lost my appetite for them. Correction: I'd gained an appetite for something else. With a sigh, I close the box and push it away. My comfort snacks have turned against me now. Honesty, I should have expected it. Levi had bought them, after all. After a moment of staring at the box in sadness, I move to the living room, deciding to just watch some television instead.I randomly scroll through stations until I come across something familiar. Jumanji. Just perfect. Even more so because I've watched it countless times, and there's absolutely nothing in it that could remind me of Levi. I settle in and let myself relax. For a while, it works.Until I smell him.His cologne drifts into the room like a ghost, haunting my senses."What are you watching?" he asks from behind me. I shut my eyes, suppressing a groan. Seriously? What does a g

  • Contract Marriage With My Ex's Boss   Ninety two

Hailey's POV I need space. As I leave Levi's room, I go to the kitchen and warm a glass of milk for myself before going to sit by the counter. Of all the ways I thought today would end, this wasn’t one of them. I never imagined I'd be back here, let alone spending tonight and the next two nights in Levi's room. I wish I had a better option. But if I decide to take Levi's offer to leave, we'd have to tell everyone the truth. And I'm not ready for that yet. I'm not ready for the judgment... or for the accountability. I left his room because the thought of him being with someone else in that bed was starting to churn my stomach. I didn't want to be so rude to him, but the longer I stayed in there, the more disgusted I felt. And the mood swings from pregnancy didn't help. I thought I was past it, apparently not. Maybe I never will be. And sure, I played a part in how things happened, but knowing that doesn't make it any easier.I sigh, taking a sip of the milk, hoping it calms me. I

  • Contract Marriage With My Ex's Boss   Ninety one

Levi's POV After helping her put her things into my car, I waited for her to get her's before beginning the drive back to my house, with her driving in front of me. Before we left, I managed to get the flowers sent back to the florist. Thankfully, she hadn't closed the shop yet. I'm sure she must've been shocked when she saw the two men I'd hired, walking back inside with all the bouquets she thought she'd sold out earlier. Hailey pulls into my driveway first, and I pull in shortly after her. I get out, gather her bags, and meet her at the front door where she’s already waiting. With my hands full, I hand her the keys. She unlocks the door and steps inside, holding it open for me. "Welcome back home, I guess?" I offer as I walk in.She scoffs. "Don't push it." She shuts the door and walks past me, heading in the direction of the rooms. I follow behind her, and when she walks past my door without stopping, I call out, "Where are you going?" She turns, a frown on her face. "My ro

Levi's POV She turns and freezes the moment she sees me. Then, without warning, she screams. It's so loud I wince, stepping over a couple of flower bouquets to reach her. Once I do, I clamp a hand over her mouth. Even at that, the sound still claws its way out of her throat. "Jesus Christ, Hailey," I hiss. "You're gonna make your neighbors think you're getting kidnapped." I won't be surprised if they had already called the fucking cops from the first time the sound left her mouth. My plan with Matt did not include me getting arrested, and I'd very much like to keep it that way.As if just registering the sound of my voice, she stops, her body growing rigid. Cautiously, I pull my hand away from her mouth. But I let it linger, just in case she tries to scream again. "I'd forgotten how loudly you screamed," I murmur into her ear, taking in her sweet, feminine scent I love so much.God, I missed her. I missed her presence. Those little traces of her that lingered in my house, espe

"M—Matt? What are you doing here?" I ask, blinking in disbelief as I take him in.He frowns, but there is unmistakable amusement playing in his eyes. "Is that any way to welcome a friend?" he teases, his lips quirking. My frustration evaporates instantly. With a laugh, I throw my arms around him. "Oh my God, Matt. I missed you!" I murmur into his neck, hugging him tight. "I was going to call but I talked myself out of it. Then I tried to talk to you at work, but I got scared. And just now, I was literally heading to your place— but you won't believe what happened!" I pull back, breathless. "I'm so so sorry for what I said. You're the best friend anyone could ever ask for, and I'm lucky to have you in my life." "Don’t I know it." He smirks, brushing off the apology with a wave of his hand. "We’ll save the groveling for later. Now, tell me, who did you think I was?" I chuckle, shaking my head. "The craziest thing happened today. Hold on, I'll show you."I grab his hand and tug him tow

  • Contract Marriage With My Ex's Boss   Eighty eight

Hailey's POV The past few days have been an absolute drag, and I honestly couldn’t be more excited for the week to be over. Thank God it’s Friday. Maybe next week won’t suck as much.I haven't spoken to Matt since Sunday, and we'd been avoiding each other at work... though it was mostly me doing the avoiding. It's exhausting and, frankly, heartbreaking. Thankfully, we didn't have any projects together this week. Otherwise, it'd have been painfully awkward. I didn’t even realize how much he meant to me until this silent war began. I'd have apologized already, but every time I mustered up the courage to do so, something came up that took my attention away from it.So now, I've made up my mind to go over to his place to apologize. I fear that if I keep waiting, we might drift further apart until it becomes too late to fix things. Just as I slip on my go-to sandals and grab my keys, the doorbell rings. I pause, frowning. I don't really have friends in this city, and even if I did, non
