Chapter 1

Sabrina’s POV

“You’re so beautiful Sabrina. If the Moon goddess doesn’t give me a mate tonight, then I’ll make you my Luna without looking back,” Charde said as scooped my red hair aside and planted a kiss on the back of my neck, sending instant shivers down my spine.

It was the night of his birthday and I had just given him myself, a promise I made him five years ago.

Everyone else was at the party, but we had snuck out amidst the cheers and merry that filled the dancefloor.

I turned around and gazed into his brown pupils.

“How can you be so confident in saying that? The pack. Your father. Who’d let you make a mere omega your mate, especially with your current condition?” I asked.

He caught a portion of my hair between his fingers and stroked gently. Inching closer, he whispered into my ears, “I'm the strongest alpha bloodline in our pack. Moreover, my condition is only temporary. And once I become the Alpha, no one can question my decisions.”

“I love you, Charde,” I whispered. He always gave me those reassuring touches and words I needed. I couldn't help but love him more than anyone else.

“I love you t—”

His response was caught off by a sudden bang on the door as it swung wide open.

“Your majesty!”

A group of thirteen guards stormed into the room, bearing weapons and led by the chief guard officer, Marcus.

I pulled the bed sheet to cover my nakedness, taking cover behind Charde who stood up naked without minding.

“What the hell is this?” He fiercely growled at Marcus.

“Get away from her, your majesty! She’s a killer!” Marcus yelled.

I glanced behind me to see if there was any female in the room besides me, because I was convinced his statement wasn’t directed at me. Anyone who knew me would testify that I couldn’t even lift my hand to kill a mere ant. There was nothing I could kill except the pumpkins in the pack orchard.

“Are you talking about Sabrina? Are you insane?!” Charde defended me, “and how dare you barge into my room without knocking?! You’re going to face the due consequences for this disrespect.”

“I’m sorry, your majesty, but that woman behind you has just killed, the Alpha, your father. She poisoned the drink she served him, and he’s lying dead as we speak now,” Marcus reported.

For a second, I wondered if my ears had something in them or I just didn’t hear Marcus clearly. But he reinforced his words on seeing the shock on Charde’s face, “Yes. Alpha Reginald, your father, is dead.”

“Yes, your father is dead,” Marcus said, “poisoned by the wine he was served tonight by that omega. The same wine she planned to serve you.”

“What? I didn’t do any such thing!” I defended.

“We’ve brought a dog to taste that wine, your majesty. If she’s guilty, then she must be executed,”

A greyhound was pulled out immediately and I watched as the wine jar which I had dropped on Charde’s nightstand was brought before the dog.

“Take this, Bingo,” Marcus said to the dog.

The dog sniffed the wine before it began to lick the little that was poured on the floor. Within a few seconds, I watched the hearty animal turn pale and begin to vomit fumes from its mouth until it collapsed on the floor.

My orbs went wide and I fell to my feet as Charde gave me a cold stare filled with unbelief and a glint of resentment.

“Where’s my father?” He asked Marcus, his demeanor shifting to a cold one.

“On his deathbed, your majesty!”

“Come with me, Marcus,” Charde ordered. “The rest of you, stay here and keep an eye on her.”

He shot one more cold glance at me, then he rushed out of the room with Marcus following behind him.

Few minutes after he left, I heard a loud howl. It was Charde’s, and that certainly meant that his father was dead, because that was the wail that we werewolves made whenever we lost someone precious to us.

Charde returned to the room as a burning fire, his eyes beaming red with rage.

“Who are you working for?” His voice gave me cold feet immediately. “And answer me quickly before I do something rash."

“What do you mean, Charde? I love you and would never do anything to hurt you. I swear on my life, I didn’t poison your father—”

“Fuck!” He slapped his face in anger. “Damn it!”

He tore his shirt and flung it on the floor, angrily walked over to a flower vase beside the door and shattered it with a kick.

"Who the fuck sent you, Sabrina?!"

"I swear on my life, I have nothing to do with this. Someone might have set me up. Please, believe me!" I cried out, my body shivering with fear.

I knew how emotional Charde was. I knew he was fighting hard within himself not to believe that I did such a thing.

I wished I could calm him down and give him a strong reason not to believe it was me.

I knew how much of a sweet soul he was and how he could become the exact opposite if he was pushed to the wall.

How could I stop his madness before it rained hailstone on me?

Could I say something other than the truth? Admitting that I did it would even make things worse. How did I get myself into this? Who set me up? Just who?

Marcus spoke with a gentle tone, “Your majesty, what do we do with her?”

Charde flashed a death glare at me, his jaws aggressively grinding against each other.

“Tie her up and send her to the dungeon,” he ordered, his fists balling.

The guards surrounded me and he muttered, “Let her put on some clothes, at least.”

I pushed the guard in front of me and rushed to Charde.

“Charde, please, I’m innocent,” I cried as I grabbed his hand. “You know me, I can’t even hurt a fly! Please, don’t do this to me!”

He turned around and it was then I realized that I had made a mistake. I should have shut my mouth and proceeded to the dungeon, and maybe, beg later. But it was too late. The usual glitter in his blue eyes was gone, depriving it of every last trace of emotion.

“Get your bloody hands off me!” He roared, pushing me so hard that I went flying into the air, laning on the bedframe with my head.

My eyes became cloudy and all I could see was his feet until everything got wrapped in darkness.
