The boardroom was silent except for the soft hum of the projector. The pale glow of the screen painted the walls, and seven elderly faces stared back at me from across the table. The council of elders.

Rowan stood by side, steady and alert.

The air in the room was thick, suffocating even, as though the walls themselves were listening.

I twirled the pen between my fingers, the small sound of it clicking against the table breaking the thick silence. Their stares didn’t bother me. I was used to them. Fear, suspicion, unease—it was the same every time.

Finally, one of the elders finally cleared his throat, the sound breaking the suffocating air. “Alpha King,” he began, his voice cautious, “since your sudden reappearance, the packs have grown restless. Even our pack, the Dark Howl pack.”

I didn’t lift my eyes, still moving the pen, letting it roll lazily. Then, with a voice that cut through the room, I asked, “Why?”

Another elder shifted uneasily before answering.

***IRENE***When we finished shopping, Lucy and I decided to stop by a restaurant nearby. The moment we walked in, the smell of warm food and soft music welcomed us. Two waitresses came forward immediately, smiling. One of them, a slim girl with short black hair, led us to a table close to the glass wall. From there, the whole city stretched out beneath us, lights sparkling like stars.Lucy leaned against the chair and let out a sigh. “Wow… this view is amazing,” she said.I smiled faintly. “It really is.”The waitress handed us menus and bowed politely. “Please take your time.”We both picked up the menus, flipping through. I wasn’t really hungry, but I ordered something light anyway. Lucy chose hers too. The waitress smiled again, bowed once more, and then left us alone. The moment she was gone, Lucy suddenly burst into laughter. Her shoulders shook as she slapped the table. “Did you see Clara’s face back there? God, Irene it was hilarious!”I couldn’t help the small laugh that e

—•IRENE•— I clenched my hand around the white gown, staring at Clara like she was nothing more than an annoying fly buzzing in my ear.“I was the first to take this,” I said firmly. My voice was calm, but the way my eyes locked onto hers left no room for games.Clara’s eyes rolled. She leaned forward so she could look down at me. Her tone turned cruel. “You? You think that dress is for someone like you? I refuse to let such a beautiful gown go to waste on something worthless.”My blood boiled, but I did not shout. I remembered the way I used to tremble under her sneers. I thought of the nights I held my pain alone and the children I had lost when I was still Luna in Moonstone pack. I thought of how every one of them threw cruel word at me. I had had enough.“You can say whatever you want, but it still doesn't change the fact that it's mine,” I narrowed my eyes darkly at Clara. The salesgirls immediately nodded in agreement. “Yes, ma’am, she was the first to pick it,” one of them sai

***IRENE ***I took a deep breath, straightening my back. My cheeks were still warm from Dante’s praise, but I forced myself to calm down. I turned to him and said, “Fine. I’ll work here. When… when do I start?”Dante’s dark eyes didn’t waver from mine. He leaned back in his chair slightly, his expression unreadable. “Tomorrow,” he said simply.I opened my mouth to say something, but before I could, he reached into the drawer beside him and pulled out a sleek black card. Without another word, he held it out toward me.I froze, my fingers hovering in the air. “Why… why are you giving me this?” I asked, my voice shaky, though I tried to sound composed.Dante leaned back in his chair, his voice low, calm, and a little dangerous. “You’re my girlfriend now. It’s only natural for me to give it to you.” He paused, and then added, almost as an afterthought, “Two billion is in the card. Get yourself whatever you want.”My eyes widened. Two billion?! My mind froze. I instinctively shook my he

***IRENE ***“You. All. Are Fired.” Rowan voice boomed in the air. The lobby was frozen, heavy silence pressing down on everyone. In seconds, the grand lobby filled with cries. Everyone fell on their knees, their voices echoing as they begged for mercy.“Please, Alpha King, forgive us!”“It wasn’t us—it was her! The receptionist misled us!”My eyes widened slightly. One by one, the employees started pointing at the receptionist, their desperate fingers all accusing her.I looked at the receptionist. Her face turned as pale as paper. She staggered back, her lips trembling. “N-no… I… I…” She opened her mouth, but her tongue failed her. Her body shook so badly she looked like she might collapse.Beside her, Vivian was still on the floor. Her hair was messy, her makeup smeared, blood trickling from her lips. She kept shaking her head, muttering while staring at me with wide, watery eyes. “No… no, this can’t be… it can’t be… you… you can’t be…” Her voice was cracked, disbelief twisting
