Dominic was torn within himself. He was both intrigued and enthralled by the amount of desire this woman could evoke in him.

She would be perfect for what he had in mind. He knew this because she was feisty and strong enough to deliver on the deal if it went through between them.

But, to know for sure, he needed to tell some little white lies first to test the waters and find out if his suspicions about her upcoming unwanted mating were true before deciding on the final action.

So, in answer to her previous question, Dominic growled the name of the man he knew she wouldn't want to hear. "Mark Colton."

---

Natalie's wolf growled inside her head at the mention of that bastard's name. "What about him?" Natalie couldn't help but grit out, trying her best not to show just how much she hated him.

"He is a man I want to see destroyed."

Natalie frowned in confusion. "Why, and how does that concern me?"

"I need to lure him to me so that I can have my pound of flesh. And the only way to do that will be to - "

"Ah, now I get it. You believe I am something he wants and so you are going to lure him here with the pretense of a trade of some sort."

No shit. Although this would be an amazing opportunity to get rid of that bastard once and for all, Natalie knew that it was a very dangerous game to play because if Mark won, she would finally be tied to him forever, with no means of escape.

So no matter how palatable his plan sounded, her answer was a big fat no.

"You're not so much insurance as you are a little reminder that he owes me and I'm not a patient man. With that thought in mind, I am sure he will be rushing over here in no time."

Natalie was getting pretty tired of being underestimated. She wasn't a patient woman either. Neither was she taken to being drugged and kidnapped. But did anyone give a shit? No. She was going to have to do something about it sooner or later.

"Look, maybe in your culture it's perfectly fine to drug and abduct a person, but it sure as shit isn't acceptable in mine." Natalie kept her steely gaze on Dominic as she said this. Whatever his aim was, she sure wasn't going to go along willingly or make it easy on him in any way. That was for sure.

"As soon as Mark arrives, you can leave."

That wasn't fantastic news in any way. She wanted to rant and rave, but what good would it do? She would only end up being confined in that damn bedroom again and that would drive her and Raven crazy.

With lust, of course.

Also, she was a believer that it was best to have your enemy in sight, not out of it.

"Have you called him yet?"

"He'll be here soon," Dominic gritted.

"Well then, can the captive get a coffee or what?" she asked no one in particular.

Aside from Dominic, Davina, and Talon, there were four other males in the room; a broad frowner with a military haircut, a gorgeous blonde with caramel skin.

A tall wolf with tousled dark curls and a clown-wide smile.

And a burly rugged guy with claw mark scars across one cheek.

It occurred to Natalie that she could just label them Angry, Blond, Happy, and Big.

Other than Talon—who seemed strangely fascinated with her for having managed to claw him—none of the other wolves looked at all pleased about her presence.

She guessed that they weren't fans of her dad either.

Not many were. Even the wolf who was wearing a huge grin looked intrigued as opposed to friendly, and she had the feeling that his smile was permanently there. Or maybe he was imagining what it would feel like to rip out her throat and hand it bow-tied to her asshole of a father.

With his arrogance, deviousness, and 'I own the world and can do whatever the hell I want attitude, her dad was as good at collecting enemies as he was at gathering alliances. Even those who allied themselves with him only did so because of how influential he was. It was all just politics.

Natalie watched Dominic nod to a grinning Davina who then switched on the coffee machine beside her and retrieved a mug from the cupboard.

Then Dominic tilted his head as if to consider her. "You know, you're not what I'd expected."

"Is that right?" Natalie said flatly.

"Mark usually likes airheads and submissives." Even with rich dark hair, Natalie knew she didn't have that bimbo look about her. No one could miss the sharp, keen mind behind her light hazel eyes.

She smiled inwardly at his words.

Only if he knew.

"Funny how a person's true mate can be the opposite of what they go for," Dominic continued and Natalie couldn't help but hiss at his words.

"He's not my true mate." It came out snappier than she had intended.

"If you haven't found your true mate yet, why would you mate with someone else? It's not like you haven't got plenty of time to find him. You can't be much older than twenty-four, twenty-five."

"My mate's death. Died when we were kids."

"Well, then that's something you and I don't have in common. I haven't lost my mate, but I am very sure I will never have one"

Natalie took in his cold calm expression and felt a pang of sympathy for him. The loss of a mate wasn't something anyone could understand unless they had experienced that kind of pain themselves. But she would take that over never feeling what it's like to have a mate.

There was an awkward silence before Dominic rasped. "Hmm, now you and Mark as a couple make even less sense. If you're not true mates, then that means he's chosen a spitfire. It really must be love."

Natalie had to bite back a snort. Love? Yeah, right. The reason Mark was so determined to fuck her was simply that she hadn't responded to his charm and his ego couldn't handle the blow.

As for why he wanted to take her as his mate…The only thing she could figure out was that he wanted an alliance with her dad.

"When's the mating ceremony scheduled for?" Dominic asked.

Oh, there would be no mating ceremony if she had her way.

Mark had been keen to get it over with but her dad had insisted on there being one before he would hand her over completely, but it was only so he had an excuse to have a get-together with all his allies and look like the big man.

Natalie had no intention of binding herself to someone she didn't care for or even like.

But then there was the matter of Mark being a control freak; she had picked that up from his interactions with his enforcers, all of whom were intimidated by him.

She didn't believe they were scared of him in a physical sense. It was as though he had some sort of hold over them like he held their secrets in the palm of his hand or something like that.

Also, if the rumors were right, Mark got his kicks from inflicting pain on women, and not the pleasurable kind.

And considering he had almost forced himself on her back at her pack house, she had no problem believing that.

She had expected him to strike her after she had practically crushed his balls with her knees in retaliation, but when he finally stood after panting for a few minutes, he merely smiled.

It was a creepy smile that swore revenge, but he hadn't stopped her from walking away and she knew why.

He was biding his time. And there was no way in hell Natalie was waiting around for his time to arrive.

Nelly worried her lower lip as she rose and turned to Natalie. "Can you help?" she asked as she frantically looked between them all. Nelly knew that Natalie could decide not to help a packmate if that person was dumb enough to drug themselves into a practically catatonic state, but she hoped Natalie could see that Arya wasn't the type of person who would do drugs. As if Natalie knew what Nelly was thinking, she set her hands on the girl's shoulders and smiled. "Of course, I can heal her. We just need to find out if Renee will let us use her event tent. I can't heal her here." "For you, I'm sure she will. But I'll go ask her nonetheless," Zane rasped before disappearing into the crowd. "Do you think someone spiked her drink?" Shirley asked, and Nelly heaved a sigh. "She was fine up until those rogue werewolves began sniffing around her." Nelly's voice had a panicky tinge to it as she continued, "I told her not to go around them but she didn't listen. I got pissed and walked out o

Shirley threw her head back and laughed with abandon at Natalie's words, her short red bob dancing around. They all got into Natalie's car, and Shirley began listing other people she would like to do while Natalie drove them to the Summer Solace camp three miles away.Natalie listened as Zane criticized each one of Shirley's choices purely to annoy her. She laughed when she was supposed to and spoke wherever necessary, but mainly she was concentrating on keeping herself and her wolf calm. It wasn't an easy feat to be sure, because her nerves were on overdrive. This was a life and death situation for her and the knowledge that she could fail was keeping her on edge.Natalie finally pulled into the camp and parked at a space beside a Corolla. Just as she was opening the car door, she caught sight of her dad's enforcers parking their own car two spaces behind her and almost hissed out loud in irritation. If not for the fact that she needed them to follow her into the camp in case she

There was no response, of course. But Natalie sat at her dead mate's grave and talked, knowing that everything she was going to say would be received without judgment. "There's this other alpha who's offered me a deal that would get me out of this, but it means I'd have to mate with him. It wouldn't be a real mating, because all he wants is an alliance with my dad and it will only be temporary. The thing is… I need to make everyone believe that he's my true mate, which means I'm going to be telling them that you never were. And I'm so sorry for this, so fucking sorry, my love, but I can't see any other way out. People say I must wish I'd never found you if it meant you were going to die before we even had a chance to fully etch, but I don't wish that, you know. Never have, never will. We might not have mated, but we did have a bond. I'm so sorry, but this is the last time I'll be here. My dad's not going to let me come back after this, but you can bet your ass that I'll still be ta

Oh, Mark was very, very, very sick. Natalie could see it as clear as day. She took in a deep breath and gave him a smile of her own as she spat, "It will never happen, loser, and I'm not sorry to disappoint you." "I'll remind you of this conversation in a year. It will be interesting to know what you make of it then." With that, Mark strolled back toward the enclosed garden, leaving her standing there gaping. Talking to Mark was like talking to someone who couldn't hear a thing. He had a hard-on for the “Lord and Master” lifestyle and intended to take it to the extreme. The idea of taking her chances with the world by just packing a bag right now and leaving suddenly seemed like a brilliant idea. In the face of being Mark's slave, being a lone wolf was beginning to look palatable as hell to Natalie. She had to physically stop herself from just going for it because she didn't want to break her word. Five more days until I meet up with Dominic, she reminded herself. In five days s

  • Contracted For The Alpha    Chapter 11: Chilling smile

The cool evening air was like a soothing caress Natalie desperately needed. Natalie took several calming breaths, trying to not only ease her anger but that of her wolf. Raven was raging over how that male had held her as if he owned her. And the very thought was driving her so insane she was practically crawling at Natalie's brain.Natalie stiffened as she heard footsteps approaching. Expecting it to be Mark, she turned to give him a piece of her mind but paused when she saw it was her father. He sighed as he halted a few feet behind her."Natalie, I think it's time you stopped fighting this. Mark is dominant, and I won't have you disrespecting him in my house. Lord knows I trained you better than that."Natalie turned slowly, her hands clenching into tight fists."Do you know he tried to bite me? Tried to show his dominance by physically overpowering me with his sharp teeth?"Her father rolled his eyes, which could only mean he knew. Her suspicions were right. Lance was a monster.

  • Contracted For The Alpha    Chapter 10: You Don't Own Me

Natalie was the first to turn around before her father. They both saw Mark removing his leather jacket, flanked by two of his enforcers. As usual, he looked like he'd just walked out of a photo shoot. Some of the females in their pack even went as far as calling him a blonde god. Natalie thought of him more as a slimy snake. She watched as Mark began walking towards them. "When you signed that contract, you signed her over to my care. In other words, I'm the only person who has the right to slap her." Natalie almost puked in disgust. "Do I need to remind you that I'm still her Alpha? You have no right over her, Mark. At least not until after the mating ceremony. Do well to remember that." As both men went into a brawl over her, she stood by watching them with the realization that this was what her fate was going to look like if she didn't do something about it quickly. She was more sure, now more than ever, that she was making the right decision with Dominic. "As her future mat
