CHAPTER FORTY SEVEN: FOOTAGE

Louis walked into the hospital room with the most serious face he could muster. You can't go soft on him, he kept telling himself. Not this time.

He had been called because Lorenzo collapsed. Exhaustion, they said. Louis thought otherwise. That dickhead could be faking it.

Lorenzo lay in the bed, pale but smiling the moment Louis walked through the door.

His eyes lit up like Louis was the sun breaking through clouds.

Louis didn't look at him much. He busi

  • Contracted: The Billionaire’s Husband From The Commercial   PLAY A CHARACTER

CHAPTER FIFTY EIGHT: PLAY A CHARACTER The door opened and Sofia's heels clicked against the marble floor like a countdown, her red dress matching her killer lipstick. Damian sat in a chair already waiting, his glasses catching the low light. Sofia didn't bother with greetings. "I hope everything is going as planned," she said immediately. Damian nodded. "The swapped medications have started. He takes them every night." "Make sure there are no skips." "There will not be." Damian adjusted his glasses. "Louis cannot sleep without his pills. He is dependent on them now. Quite fragile." Sofia smiled…cold, satisfied. "The drugs are high class. Almost undetectable. Even in an autopsy." She poured herself a drink, swirling the liquid before taking a slow sip. "Anything else? I need something to create a misunderstanding between Louis and Lorenzo." Damian leaned back. "There is someone we could use. A director. He owns a film company and a school. Adrian Cross. He has taken a keen in

  • Contracted: The Billionaire’s Husband From The Commercial   THE TRUTH BETWEEN THEM

CHAPTER FIFTY SEVEN: THE TRUTH BETWEEN THEM Louis walked toward the swimming pool, his footsteps echoing off the marble. Lorenzo was inside, cutting through the water like he owned it…because in this house, he owned everything. Lorenzo stepped out, water streaming down his chest, his hair darkened and slicked back. He saw Louis's face and smirked. "You will get wrinkles from frowning like that. What is wrong? You look angry, mio gattino." Louis crossed his arms. "I just wanted to ask you something and I hope you don't lie like you always do." Lorenzo tilted his head, making a pouting face, water dripping from his chin. "I apologize for not being home a lot lately. Business travels. You must miss me." "It's not that." Louis's voice was tight. "Did you buy the acting role? The one I'm working on now?" Lorenzo chuckled. "That is what has you angry? You look so cute." "I'm serious, Lorenzo." Lorenzo's smile faded. He reached for a towel and wiped his hands slowly, deliberately.

  • Contracted: The Billionaire’s Husband From The Commercial   THE PROMISE

CHAPTER FIFTY SIX: THE PROMISE By morning, with gentle sunlight streaming through the windows and birds chirping somewhere outside, Louis was reading through the script in an elegant room of the mansion when he heard footsteps. He knew who those belonged to. Lorenzo ran to him, his hands cupping Louis's face, turning it left and right, checking for damage. "Are you okay? I heard what happened. I took an emergency flight after hearing that." Louis pulled back slightly. "I'm fine. I'm okay." Lorenzo's gaze shifted to Damian, who stood in the corner where Louis had been sitting. "Are you so fucking incompetent? Stupid?” Damian flinched. "You are fired," Lorenzo said. "Get out." "Lorenzo…" Louis stepped forward. "No. He let you get hurt. He is incompetent." "It wasn't his fault." Louis's voice was firm. "There was traffic. We had to pass that route. He didn't know, baby. Calm down, my love." Lorenzo's jaw tightened. He stared at Damian for a long moment, then exhaled through

  • Contracted: The Billionaire’s Husband From The Commercial   HIS ASSISTANT.

CHAPTER FIFTY FIVE: HIS ASSISTANT The new assistant…Damian…walked in, clutching a tablet to his chest like a shield. He was young, maybe early thirties, with wire-rimmed glasses and a nervous smile that flickered on and off like a faulty light bulb. "Signor Volterra," he said, his voice slightly too high. "I have your shooting schedule for today. There is also a new drama script reading at…" Louis smiled kindly. "Happy to see you today, Damian. Just Louis is fine." "Louis," Damian repeated, as if testing the word on his tongue. Lorenzo appeared behind Louis like a shadow given form. His hand settled on Louis's waist…possessive, firm. "You are smiling too much. He is your worker. You should maintain that professionalism." Louis rolled his eyes. "I'm being polite." Lorenzo ignored him. His gaze fixed on Damian, cold and assessing. "Let me make things clear. You will not touch him. You will not stand too close. You will not make him laugh unnecessarily." Lorenzo stepped cl

  • Contracted: The Billionaire’s Husband From The Commercial   PLAYING ROLES

CHAPTER FIFTY FOUR: PLAYING ROLES Louis asked one of the drivers for the keys to the car Lorenzo had driven them out in last night…the one from the star, the one where Lorenzo had sped like a madman with his eyes leaving the road to look at Louis, always looking at Louis. "Keep your eyes on the road!" Louis had yelled. "You are too pretty not to look at," Lorenzo had replied, swerving slightly. Louis had spent the entire ride with his heart in his throat…not just from the speed but from the flash drive that had slipped out of his hand and fallen somewhere in the car. When Lorenzo had called his name, his hand had frozen at the window. He hadn't thrown it. He had tucked it back and pretended to sleep. Now, inside the car, Louis searched under the seats and between the cushions with his heart racing. ‘Please let it still be here. Please let no one have found it.’ His fingers brushed against something. He pulled it out. The flash drive. He exhaled. "Excuse me, sir. What do you

  • Contracted: The Billionaire’s Husband From The Commercial   MAKE YOU A STAR

CHAPTER FIFTY THREE: MAKE YOU A STAR. Louis sat in front of his laptop, his fingers resting on the keyboard, his eyes fixed on Chloe's face on the screen. He had made a special request to speak to her through the principal, pulling strings he didn't even know he had. Chloe's voice was bright, excited. "I can't wait to come over this weekend. Especially for your birthday. It's been so long since we celebrated your birthday with you not being in a hospital bed." Louis smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "I miss you, brother Lou." "I don't think you do," he teased. "I do. I do. I swear." Chloe pressed her hand to her chest like she was taking an oath. Louis laughed. It felt good. Almost normal. The call ended and the screen went dark. Louis sat in the silence, his mind drifting back. This time last year, he was drowning in debt with a sick sister, Uncle Vinnie's boys breathing down his neck, eviction notices, an empty fridge, no way out. He looked around the room…the sil
