Clarissa’s POV

Clarissa hadn’t slept a wink. She had tried, God knew she had tried to close her eyes and rest, but the images wouldn’t stop replaying.

It had come hours earlier long after midnight waking her with the sharp chime of her laptop. At first, she thought it was another message from Dante but when she saw the subject line, her heart stilled.

Nicho had filed a lawsuit against her for defamation for daring to say the truth about her brother’s death and suspiciously there was no media co

Dante’s POV The flowers sat on the passenger seat like the beautiful tool I was going to use to get Clarissa’s forgiveness. I glanced at them again as I drove, my fingers tightening slightly on the steering wheel. They weren’t her favorites.Clarissa loved white camellias. She once told me they made her feel calm but the florist didn’t have any. They had roses, Lilies, Orchids and poppies. Too many poppies.I remembered instantly why I couldn’t buy them. Clarissa was allergic. Not mildly, it was severe. Even the presence of poppy seeds could trigger her breathing. I still remembered the night she collapsed in my arms, her fingers clutching my shirt as she struggled to breathe, her eyes wide with fear she couldn’t voice. I had never forgotten that. So I bought the safest option they had left. White roses.I pulled into her driveway, the headlights washing over the familiar walls of her house. It looked the same as always. I killed the engine and sat there for a moment, staring at he

Dante’s POV The sound of car engines startled us for a minute, I didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. Charles was still talking when the sound crept into the air between us, his voice fell flat immediately but he pretended he still had control over anything at all.“You don’t get to decide that,” he said, his jaw flexing. “Chelsea isn’t a trophy you win because you showed up at the right time.”I didn’t answer him immediately. My eyes stayed on his, Charles's eyes flicked past me, toward the approaching car, and I saw it happen. He was scared and I was glad.Charles’s voice dropped. “What did you do?”I tilted my head slightly. “What do you mean?”His stare sharpened. “Did you call the cops?”I leaned a little closer to Charles, lowering my voice so only he could hear me.“You’re nervous,” I said quietly. His jaw tightened. “Answer me.”I let the silence stretch just enough to suffocate him. Then I said, calmly, “Don’t be scared.”His eyes flashed. “I’m not scared.”I let

Dante’s POV The ringing in my ears hadn’t stopped. It filled my head like a warning siren, drowning out everything else. My hands were still gripping the steering wheel, my knuckles pale, my arms trembling from the force of the impact. Every breath burned my chest, sharp and uneven.I suddenly remembered Chelsea . I turned to her to check if she was still with me.She was still slumped in the seat, her hair covering part of her face, her breathing shallow but present. Relief came in small, fragile waves.“Chelsea,” I whispered, forcing strength into my voice. “Chelsea, listen to me.”Her eyelids fluttered slightly. Good. She was conscious. That was the full relief and satisfaction I needed.“Stay calm,” I said quickly. “Don’t move too much.”Her lips parted weakly. “Dante… what… happened…”“We were hit.”Her eyes widened faintly, confusion and fear mixing together. Then I remembered suddenly.“The red button,” I said urgently. “Inside the console. Press it.”She blinked slowly. “What?

Dante’s POV Chelsea shook her head slowly. “No. She reacted to what she heard. And what she heard was that her boyfriend was with another woman.”“She’s not just another woman,” I snapped before I could stop myself. The moment the words left my mouth, regret followed.Chelsea’s eyes flickered. “See?” she said softly. “This is why I didn’t want to stay with you.”I took a step toward her. “That’s not what I meant.”“But it’s what it sounded like,” she replied. “And Clarissa probably heard it even louder than I did.”I looked down at my phone again, half-expecting it to ring, half-dreading that it might. But there was nothing.“She didn’t even ask if you were okay,” I said, more to myself than to Chelsea.Chelsea shrugged, but her shoulders sagged. “She doesn’t know. And now she probably thinks I’m lying in your arms somewhere, perfectly fine.”“That’s not fair,” I said.“Neither is getting hit by a car,” Chelsea said quietly. The weight of that settled between us. I watched her sway a

Dante’s POV I stood there watching her sway on her feet, insisting she was fine, and it took everything in me not to grab her shoulders and shake some sense into her.“You were just in an accident, Chelsea,” I said, forcing my voice to stay calm even as something sharp twisted in my chest. “You don’t get to decide you’re fine five minutes after being thrown across a road.”She gave me that look—the one that was half stubborn and half exhausted. “I’m not hurt, Dante. I would know if I was.”“That’s not how internal injuries work,” I snapped before I could stop myself. I dragged a hand through my hair, the image of her lying still on the asphalt flashing in my mind again. “You could be bleeding internally and not feel a damn thing.”Her lips parted, like she wanted to argue, but then her shoulders slumped. The fight drained out of her all at once. “I don’t feel pain,” she said quietly. “I just feel… tired. Really tired.”That scared me more than if she’d screamed. She leaned against t

  • Contracted To The Col-Hearted Bilionaire   Chapter 67

Dante's POV My hands were tight on the steering wheel, knuckles white, eyes locked on the road ahead as I drove. Chelsea’s voice still echoed in my head from the phone call, it was shaky, rushed, trying to sound braver than she felt. “Someone’s following me, Dante.” That sentence alone made me leave Clarissa at the restaurant. I really didn't want anything to happen to Chelsea and I couldn't explain to Clarissa what the problem was, she was definitely not going to believe it.When I finally pulled up to where Reed had told me to meet them, I didn’t even bother shutting the engine off right away. My eyes went straight to Chelsea. She was standing near Reed’s car, arms wrapped around herself, She looked unharmed. There was no blood, no visible injuries but I knew better than to trust appearances.“Chelsea.” My voice came out rougher than I intended. She looked up, and the second our eyes met, her composure cracked. She rushed toward me and I caught her, my hands gripping her shoulde
