    CHAPTER TWO—- Betrayal.

    ~RYKER~

I was on the training ground when an immeasurable amount of pain hit me, I couldn't stand, I couldn't understand what could have gone wrong, what was happening. The pain was so unbearable, that it felt like a knife had been plunged deep into my chest and was continuously twisted. After some minutes, the pain subsided.

"You okay?" Bradford's concerned voice reached my ears.

"I'm not sure, I just..." I tried to answer, but another wave of pain crashed over me, stealing my breath. I doubled over, clutching my stomach.

"What's wrong, Alpha?" A gruff voice inquired.

Scattered footsteps reached my ears, and I knew the concerned faces of the pack warriors surrounded me. I forced out a breath to push down the pain.

I gritted my teeth. "It's... nothing. Keep training," I managed to choke out. I knew that something was wrong so I decided to tap into Bradford's mind.

"Something is going on, Brad but I'm not sure." I decided to let that hand as if I wasn't already suspecting it. "I need to be in the pack house asap."

His eyes flickered blue with understanding as he directed the warriors to clear the way. As they all breezed off, Brad leaned closer suspiciously.

"You don't mean..." Bradford trailed off, and I nodded. "Shit!"

I had just confirmed his suspicion and mine. His jaws went slack with shock.

"Damn it!" My eyes snapped shut as I prepared for the pain to come.

"I need to leave," I muttered under my breath without really waiting for his response.

I breezed through the pack compound, making my way to the pack house. Thankfully,  Bradford followed behind me to keep me in check. I searched the house desperately for Elly, but she wasn't there.

I closed my eyes, taking a big whiff of her faint scent while I concentrated on our bond to find her. When I opened my eyes, the trail led to the pack border, but I hesitated.

Why was she there? Stupid question! I already knew but I wanted to confirm.

"I know where she is," I informed Bradford, clenching my jaws against the pain.

"Should I accompany you?" He asked, ready to shift into his wolf.

"No, I need to handle this alone," I replied firmly, storming the forest toward the border.

As I drew closer, Elly's scent grew stronger. It encouraged me to go faster in that direction. My suspicions were further confirmed as I heard lewd sounds from her.  I wasn't surprised to see her on another unscented wolf—a rogue, no less.

    They were passionately making love.

Anger replaced the pain in my stomach. It boiled over. I switched back to my human form.

    "Elly!" I thundered with rage.

I heard her gasp, but it faded away when she met my eyes. A smile graced her lips, one obvious to my pain.

Not only had she shattered our bond by betraying me with another wolf, but she had also violated our pack's law by associating with a rogue. I blinked when the rogue stood boldly behind Elly, daring me to challenge him.

There was nothing I wanted more than to snap his neck. I chose to ignore him, shifting my gaze from him to the one I thought cherished me as I, her.

"Elly, how could you?" I asked, surprised. Disappointed? Hurt? We've had our ups and downs, argued and all but never did I think she would do such a thing.

"How could I what, Ryker?" Her voice was cold as she retrieved her clothes from the ground to shamelessly advance towards me.

"You've never had time for me. You're always absent, either on the training ground or in a pack meeting. And when you're home, you're always exhausted," she accused, pausing to plant a kiss on the rogue's cheek.

He fucking followed her everywhere. If she took a step, he did too. I scoffed, pushing down Enzo, my wolf, when he strained against my control. He desperately wanted what I wanted. To rip his head off.

Her eyes darkened. "You see, darling Ryker, I only agreed to be your Luna because I believed you would become a strong Alpha, conquering other packs. But it seems I was mistaken." She sighed dramatically. "In fact, I should have rejected you from the start, had I known you'd turn out to be such a pitiful excuse for an Alpha." Then she grinned. "But fear not, I've found someone who truly understands the meaning of strength and knows how to cherish a woman! A warrior and a true leader." Elly finished, turning to the rogue.

When did all of these start? The rogues, her affair with him?

I felt stupid connecting the dots.

The rogue wore an agreeable smirk. "That's right, darling. Soon, we'll take control of the pack, and you, my queen, will stand by my side."

Whatever he said after that, I didn't listen. That was the last straw. Enzo ripped out of me in wolf form, soaked in fury. He slammed into the rouge, who had swiftly transformed into his wolf form upon witnessing my own shift as he slammed into a tree.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Elly attempting to intervene, but Enzo didn't care she was his mate. She hurt us. He flung her away with a swipe of his paw. I landed a heavy blow at the rogue, preparing to strike again when the scent of other rogues invaded my senses.

I paused. From the corner of my eyes, I could see other rogues. They had invaded my pack without knowing since I was focused on Elly and her betrayal.

Like a plan, they all jumped on me at once. Distracted by the movements around me, I didn't sense Elly's lover behind me quickly. He rapidly sank his teeth into my shoulders, a sharp pain piercing through my side that I shook off.

A loud growl tore out of my chest. My eyes filled with rage. The rogues moved back and then I noticed Elly's lover's eye turned red, and all the other rogues stood still.

They all began dispersing into the woods,

out of my territory, while Elly followed behind, that was when I felt the sharp pain shooting through my body and my legs weakened.

"Fuck!" I gritted as beads of sweat formed on my forehead. Those fuckers had injected me with silver and I couldn't mind link Bradford which was the effect of the silver, I dragged myself as I tried to stand up but it was of no use as I stumbled on the floor, my sights growing blurry.

Chapter 26– Oh, that?Ryker's POV I was on the run away from my pack— my mate who had gotten the pack to turn against my family. The words couldn't get away from my head. I rolled and rolled on the bed until it was morning when I had finally managed to get some sleep. I didn't know when I had woken up but I was glad I had managed to get some sleep at last even though it meant missing the morning training with the pack warriors.I was surprised at how quiet the pack house was. I didn't dare to go to my chambers last night after I heard what Rowena told me. I couldn't even do that. I had maltreated her, I had treated her like her fucking ex mate. I was no different from him.Enzo was back to being mad at me again but one thing I was glad about last night was that I didn't hurt her anymore.I skidded the steps to the pack kitchen, hoping to find something to eat but the kitchen was quiet and that was when it began to settle in me. From my room down the stairs and to the kitchen, the p

Chapter 25– Tell me the truth.Rowena's POVI glanced at my bloodied legs. I could see my bones hanging, some in pieces and the only thing still connecting my knee to my feet was a piece of flesh. I groaned as I tried to adjust and sit in at least a little more comfortable way.My body was on fire. I thought Ryker was bad but Aiden was a full on evil monster. I had lost at least three nails while I was being tortured. I had to come up with a lie, a believable lie before I was left alone well if you considered fainting. I hadn't fainted, I'm pretty sure I would have been worse than this.I could feel my eyes swollen from all the hits I had taken, perhaps from the never ending tears that had run out of my eyes since I have been locked up in this cell. I shut my eyes as I felt a load of tears threatening to fall again.I thought I was strong. I thought I could overcome whatever they threw at me but I was wrong. I didn't even last a day. I sighed as I let the cold floor seep into my skin.

Chapter 24— Once an enemy, always an enemy.Ryker's POVI paused. My claws suspended in the air as his words rang in my ear. Was this some kind of joke?I forced Enzo to the back of my mind despite how hungry he was to harm Aiden, I needed to know if what he was saying was a lie. I shifted back into my human form, with the situation at hand I didn't realize my nakedness nor did I care."If you are joking with me—" I growled, leaving my threat hanging in the air."I swear I'm not" Aiden wheezed as he tried to stand from the floor to his feet."When did you find out about it?" I asked, my gaze unfocused as I thought of what might have happened. The only thing I came up with was that someone had helped Amelia escape, someone who was related to the sleeping potion and I came to one conclusion, the Shadow pack but something wasn't making sense, how had they taken Amelia but yet left Rowena in the cell?"As I was torturing her, I—" my glare shut him off, he didn't complete his statement but

Chapter 23– BrawlRyker's POVI just wish you would snap out of it and act like the Alpha we thought you were. There was that word again. I sighed as I closed my eyes, I have let a lot of people down. I have been letting a lot of people down and now my best friend. Bradford doesn't say anything most times when I fucked up unless he needed to say it and he just did. That means I was spiraling out of control. I needed to fix this, I needed to make things right.I slid out of the bed, my head spinning but I have a place to be. I have to set things right, maybe, just maybe, I will be able to regain the respect that has been lost.I sniff the air trying to find Bradford. My nose caught his familiar smell at the training ground. I headed in the direction to speak with him."Hey," I said softly as I approached him. His fist connected to the punching bag at a faster speed and harder the moment he heard my voice. I knew he was wishing it was my face he was hitting."Bradford," I called as I p

Chapter 22— HOW COULD YOU?Ryker's POV"You've got to be kidding me!" Aiden growled as he stared at me in disbelief.I could feel Enzo slipping away from my grip. "Just stop" I gritted, digging my feet into the ground as I tried to restrain Enzo.Maverick and Bradford came close to me as they tried to hold me, if Enzo should take over, their strength meant nothing as I would tear them down to get to Aiden.Aiden glanced at Rowena who was writhing in pain as she stared at her bloodied legs."Get your hands away from me" I shrugged off Maverick and Bradford and I walked towards Rowena, my nose in the air as the metallic smell clouded my senses.I was tempted to touch her, to soothe her pain and tell her I was here but I refrained myself and stood straight. I mind-linked Bradford and Maverick and told them to take care of her injury."Should I take the collar away from her? She needs to heal without it" Bradford asked and I shook my head."No, let her be like that, until she speaks the t

  • Contractually Yours, Alpha   Chapter 21– Shadow's Crest

Chapter 21– Shadow's CrestRyker's POV"I believe you know what this is, Cousin?" Aiden voice was taunting as he kept on shoving the crest in my view. Now I was tongue tied, I have never been this humiliated in my entire years of life. Not even when Father had lashed me in front of the whole pack when I had caught the smallest game at a hunt."Of course, it belongs to the Shadow Pack," I replied. My voice was cold, the once understanding person I had tried to be when I had stepped into this cell was far gone, pushed at the end of the hole as I returned my gaze on Rowena.I watched as her eyes widened. I shook my head, I am so stupid for almost dismissing her as a suspect right now. I had let sentiment in and didn't look beneath the facade. I had been here for minutes questioning her and Aiden hadn't been here for up to five minutes and he had gotten a lead. An answer to our ever burning question.Aiden took some steps towards Rowena, he glanced at me and then back at her."Who is sh
