Chapter 5

Author: 77 Summer
As I held the printed hotel check-in record in my hand, I spoke articulately, my tone measured and overflowing with absolute sincerity.

In an instant, the chat blew up.

The screen flooded with question marks, followed immediately by an avalanche of laughter.

"Three minutes? For real?"

"Holy crap, this is wild! What an apology!"

"This isn't an apology. This is a public execution!"

Before the viewers could react, I pulled up another screenshot—an Instagram post in which Naomi had flaunted her Hermès bag.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Baxter. I shouldn't have questioned the authenticity of your bag. Even though my husband bought that top-tier knockoff for 20 thousand dollars using company funds, his love for you is real.

"I shouldn't have been jealous of your romance, and I certainly shouldn't have pointed out that using corporate funds to buy fake luxury goods is not only potential embezzlement but also embarrassing."

The moment those words left my mouth, half of the netizens who had been calling me outdated flipped instantly.

"Holy hell! The richest man in the city buys counterfeit bags for his mistress? And with company funds?"

"The real kicker is spending 20 grand on a fake! This guy is so easy to fleece!"

"Embezzlement? That could land him in prison!"

I kept flipping through the thick diary in my hands. Every page brought another explosive revelation.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that Ms. Baxter got pregnant because you didn't want to buy protection, Mr. Cooke. That is your private affair, and as an outsider, I shouldn't have chimed in.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have leaked the transfer records showing that you bought a sports car for Ms. Baxter's brother. Even though you misappropriated construction funds and brought the project to a halt for two weeks, I should have been more understanding of your desire to win over your future brother-in-law."

I spoke neither too fast nor too slow, carrying myself with the poise and authority of an ancient matriarch disciplining an erring concubine.

Every single word landed like a blade, cutting straight to the bone while leaving no room for complaint.

After all, I was strictly following the court order, laying out the exact facts of how I had violated their privacy.

By now, Joseph's phone was probably ringing off the hook.

I watched the live viewer count surge past three million, and it was still climbing.

The platform didn't dare ban my stream because I had the written court order. I was simply fulfilling my legal obligations.

On the other side of the screen, Joseph had indeed lost his mind.

As he sat at home with Naomi watching my live stream, his face was as pale as a ghost.

"Hurry! Call the platform! Shut her down! Now!" Joseph roared, throwing his wine glass straight at the TV displaying the stream.

Naomi was trembling uncontrollably. Once the truth about the fake bag got out, she would never be able to show her face in high society again.

However, I didn't stop.

For half an hour, I issued a total of 20 apologies. Every single one was backed by hard, undeniable evidence.

The top trending hashtag, once #BrendaApologizes, was replaced by #BrendaJudgesTheScumbag, #JosephThreeMinutes, and #RichFamilyFakeBag.

Finally, I closed the folder and offered the camera another flawless, elegant smile. "To demonstrate my deep respect for the law and my apologies to you both, I will conduct this apology live stream for 15 consecutive days.

"Today is only day one. At the same time tomorrow, I will continue to expose… Oh, excuse me, to apologize to the two of you. I deeply regret my part in the company's tax violations as well. Tomorrow, I will offer a detailed reflection."

With that, I ignored the flood of comments begging me to stay and ended the live stream.

Looking at the massive amount of tips piling up on the account dashboard, I poured myself a glass of red wine and took a light sip.

The wine was smooth and sweet as it hit my throat.

"First round, absolute victory."

A few months later, the business landscape of Selmont had completely transformed. The golden sign of Brenda Corp hung high above the city, and no one even remembered that it once belonged to Joseph. That afternoon, I sat in my spacious, sunlit chairwoman's office, going through documents. My secretary, Callie Baker, knocked and came in, handing me a newspaper. The front-page headline was a report on Naomi. "Former Wealthy Mistress Now Reduced to Living in the Slums."In the photo, Naomi's face was gaunt and hollow. She clutched a frail baby in her arms while picking through trash piles near an urban village.I heard she had given birth to a son who looked like an exact replica of Joseph.Precisely because he looked so much like Joseph, Naomi hated him more every day and took all her resentment out on the baby. The baby cried constantly, and she screamed at him every day. Her life was an absolute wreck.Meanwhile, that mountain of debt pressed down on her so heavily that she wo

Joseph's condition took a sharp turn for the worse after seeing Naomi. The doctor suggested transferring him to a private ICU for round-the-clock care, but the daily cost was astronomical.Sitting in the hospital director's office, I shook my head with a face full of solemn regret. "Doctor, as you know, the company has barely caught its breath, and money is tight at home. Can we transfer him to a standard ward instead? Use cheaper medications too. Anything that keeps him stable will do."The director glanced at my expensive dress. He looked as if he wanted to say something but ultimately signed off on the transfer. When Naomi caught wind of this, she posted a video online accusing me of abusing a patient. She wept heart-wrenchingly into the camera. "Brenda is worth billions of dollars, yet she refuses to pay for treatment that could save her husband's life! This is premeditated murder!"If this had happened before, netizens would surely be raining curses down on me again. But no

Joseph didn't die, but he came pretty close. He suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, became quadriplegic, and was left in a vegetative state in the ICU, kept alive by a ventilator. As his legal wife, I naturally stepped into the role of his primary legal guardian. The doctor brought over a thick stack of critical-condition notices and treatment options to me. "Mrs. Cooke, the patient is in critical condition. Do you want to proceed with brain surgery? While the risks are high, it's the only sliver of a chance he has."I took the pen and looked at the sharp spikes on the heart monitor without a single ripple of emotion.Back at Marquis Valebrook Manor, this was usually the cue to start prepping the funeral arrangements."There's no need," I said calmly, signing my name across the page."I can't bear to see him suffer any longer. We'll stick to conservative treatment and let him leave with a little dignity."The doctor flinched slightly but ultimately respected my wishes.T

"Doctor, my belly hurts so bad… It really hurts…"In the hospital's VIP suite, Naomi lay in bed, her face paler than a sheet of paper. The top OB-GYN specialist I had hired conducted a thorough examination before turning to the livestream camera and announcing, "Ms. Baxter, the monitors show your baby has a remarkably strong heartbeat."With fetal movement this vigorous, the baby could compete in the Olympics. How could it possibly hurt?"The tens of millions of viewers tuned into the stream burst into hysterical laughter."Hahaha! This doctor is a master of sarcasm!""Brenda is an absolute badass! She outplayed Naomi before she even made a move!""This isn't bed rest. This is a public execution!"Naomi wanted to fly into a rage, but looking at the two bodyguards standing by the door, she had no choice but to swallow her pride.Since she was so terrified of a miscarriage, she wouldn't be taking a single step out of this room. She was going to lie there and protect that baby wh

Before dawn the next morning, Cooke Group's stock was already in free fall.Joseph was jarred awake by a barrage of panicked calls from the board of directors.By the time he scrambled into the office, he was greeted by cold regulatory seals on the doors and a room full of furious board members. The embezzlement and tax issues I had brought up in yesterday's live stream had immediately drawn the attention of the IRS and the financial crimes unit."Joseph Cooke! Look at the mess you've made! Three minutes? Fake designer bags? You've dragged our reputation through the mud!" one of the major shareholders roared, slamming a hand onto the table.Joseph was suspended on the spot, pending internal investigation.Meanwhile, the once-arrogant Naomi got a taste of her own medicine. She held the cushy title of "Administrative Director" at the company, where her days were spent drinking coffee and getting her nails done.Today, however, HR handed her a reassignment notice."Ms. Baxter, gi
