Athena’s POV
“Mom” I called, running into her arms immediately as the door opened. I pressed my face into her shoulder and the tears came. “Athena, my baby,” my mom whispered, stroking my hair. Raven was right behind me. She rushed forward and threw her arms around both of us and we held each other crying. “Are you okay?” I asked at the same time as my mom and she nodded. “I’m fine” I said sniffing loudly. She pulled back just a little to touch the bandage on my forehead. Her fingers were gentle, but I still flinched. “I’m okay,” I said quickly. “It’s not deep.” She looked into my eyes for a second, and I knew she was skeptical but she nodded. “I’m glad you’re okay,” she said quietly. That’s when I noticed the bruises on her arms, her cheek, and even on Raven’s body. As soon as I looked at them, Mom pulled her sleeves down and tried to smile. I swallowed hard feeling so much anger towards that devil Paige. “What happened?” she asked, looking behind me suddenly. Her eyes locked on the tall, burly man standing in the hallway, silently watching us. He was the guard Travis insisted he followed me in after I told him I’d like to meet them alone. “Are you okay, did you really kill the crown prince?” she asked again, more urgently now. “No!.. Mom I didn’t. Paige framed me for it because I caught her cheating with Hudson, Raven was also arrested for stealing because of that.” I explained. “Hudson cheated!, that bastard.” my mom swore silently and I smiled at how muderous she looked. “Raven I’m sorry.” I started “Everything is my fault.” “No Athena it’s not your fault. I’m just happy we are together now and alive. We were caught by Hudson’s guards but some men rescued us and brought us here.” She said. I looked around the house; it looked luxurious and massive. The walls were painted in soft gold and white, with long, flowing curtains that shimmered slightly when the light touched them. Everything looked expensive, the vases, marble floor and even the soft rug under my feet felt like something out of a royal palace. But it was all decorated with the Grey family crest. A silver wolf with glowing eyes on a black shield. “The Grey family crest is everywhere here,” my mom whispered slowly. “I don’t know who rescued us but I don’t think it’s safe here since we are wanted traitors and this clearly belongs to the Alpha’s family.” She said I looked down at my hands that were shaking a little “No mom… you should stay here.” I said urgently. She looked at me closely now, waiting for me to explain but I looked away. I couldn’t bring myself to say it. How could I tell her that my mate was Travis Grey? The ruthless Alpha king and father of Hudson we all knew and this was his property and he was the one protecting us from his own son? “What do you mean Athena” She asked. I bit my lip and shook my head. “Mom,” I said softly, “I’ll tell you everything later, I promise but you’re safe here and you’ll be protected that’s all that matters right now.” She looked worried, but she nodded and I knew she’d trust me and stay. I could see that in her eyes. “I have to go now,” I said, stepping back slowly. “But I’ll be back soon. I just needed to know you were okay.” “Please be careful.” She said grabbing my hand quickly. “I will.” “Athena,” Raven called softly, like she didn’t want me to leave. I hugged them both again. “I’ll be okay,” I whispered before following the guard out. We reached the front of the building where a sleek black car was waiting. I slid in and sat beside Travis. “You’re convinced they’re okay now?” he asked, turning his head to me. “Yes.” I nodded trying to blink away the tears that was threatening to fall. Before yesterday we were the traitor family but no one wanted us dead and I was also in love but now we were wanted by the same person I loved. My family was under death threats because of me. Without a word Travis reached for my hands like he could read my mind. His fingers closed around mine gently but firmly. I tried to resist it, but the didn’t let go and waves of shivers ran up my arms making me confused at my reaction towards him. It was like I wanted him to touch me even if I didn't want to admit it. “Thanks for saving them,” I said finally, my voice low. He smirked, just a little. But he didn’t say anything. He just looked out the window as the car started moving. I stared down at our hands. His thumb brushed over mine slowly and that one touch made my stomach flip. I hated how my body reacted to him so easily. I turned to look at him and gulped at how perfect his side profile looked; it didn’t help that the sun was streaming in and he was glistening. His jaw was tight and I gulped nervously. He was perfect too perfect. “I told you you’re mine and I’d protect you,” he replied, still not looking at me. “I don’t break promises.” He said I knew he was telling the truth and I didn’t know if I was elated or scared. “My mom’s going to freak out when I tell her the truth,” I said, more to myself than to him. He finally turned toward me, his eyes unreadable. “You didn’t tell her?” He asked I nodded slowly. “I couldn’t bring myself to.” I said biting my lips. “Will you tell her about it soon.” He asked his eyes fixed on me. “I don’t know,” I whispered refusing to look into his eyes. How do I even tell my mom my boyfriends father is my mate and it was not just any man it was Travis Grey. “I don’t care what anyone thinks,” he said. “You’re mine and I won’t let you go ever. That’s all that matters.”Athena’s POVWe ran for what felt like forever. I didn’t want it to end but the sun was starting to dip and we shifted back into our human forms in the pack woods. Before I could say a word, Travis pulled me to him and kissed me very hard.I gasped a little, but I didn’t hold back. Maybe it was my wolf but I kissed him back with everything in me.Our lips met hungrily and my fingers tangled in his hair, and he growled softly against my mouth.“I’ve missed this,” he said, his voice rough, his hands on my waist.“Then don’t hold back anymore,” I whispered. He didn’t; I don’t know how we got to the soft patch of grass behind the trees, but we did. Within seconds my clothes were gone and it was like a fire had taken over us.His mouth was on mine and he whispered my name like I was his world; it was perfect. This time, he didn’t try to be gentle or try to protect me like I was made of glass instead matched my fire and wildness. When I bit his bottom lip, he grinned and said, “There’s my
Chloe’s POVI didn’t know if Athena was lucky or if she was just above death now. Everything I tried to get rid of her only backfired and I was loosing my mind when she suddenly decided to sack all the servants at the Alpha quarters. My spy came into my room that morning, his face pale like he had seen a ghost.“She sacked them,” he said quickly, his eyes darting around like someone was watching.I narrowed my eyes. “Sacked who?”“All the workers you put in place at the pack house; every single one amd is replacing them with her own people. Cleaners, guards, cooks everyone has been replaced.”I froze. “What?”I blinked slowly, trying to take it all in my hands tightening into fists on the edge of the table. That little witch; She thought she could just erase everything I worked for and get away with it?“Oh, she’s bold now,” I muttered under my breath. The spy stood there awkwardly, waiting for me to say something else, but I waved him away with one sharp flick of my fingers.“Get out
Travis’s PovI felt a great force, like lightning, rush through my body and it shook me from the inside. My wolf howled with joy in my head, and my eyes snapped open.“Athena,” I breathed; She was awake. She sat up slowly in the hospital bed, her fingers already tugging at the wires and machines that had been stuck to her body for days. The heart monitor beeped wildly for a second, then flatlined as she removed the last wire. I watched her starstruck. Her dark hair fell over her shoulders like waterfall and her skin glowed under the soft light. Her beautiful eyeslocked with mine, and everything else faded away.“Mate,” I growled, loud and deep. Her lips parted, and without looking away from me, she said softly, “Mate.”Her voice hit me like a punch to the chest and my wolf jumped excitedly inside me. I didn’t even realize when my legs started moving. I was at her side in seconds, pulling her into a tight hug, burying my face in her neck.“Athena,” I said her name with so much emotio
Athena’s POVI opened my eyes slowly, everything was blur and I could hear was the sound of machines beeping. The light in the room felt too bright, and I blinked a few times and stared at the white ceiling. My body felt heavy, like someone had placed bags of stones all over me and my arms and legs didn’t want to move at first. Why am I in the hospital? I wondered, slowly lifting myself up. My head ached a little, but I pushed through it.As my eyes focused better, I looked around the room, the walls were a pale cream color, and the smell of medicine filled my nose. A tube was attached to my hand, and wires connected me to the machines beside me.That’s when I saw Travis. He was sitting right next to my bed. His head was resting on his arms, which were crossed on the bed beside me. His hair was messy like he had been running his fingers through it again and again and his face looked tired, but peaceful, like he was only resting for a second and could wake up at any moment.I sat up str
Athena’s POVEverything around me was black, I couldn’t see my hands, not even when I tried to lift them in front of my face.It felt like I was falling, but I wasn’t moving. I was stuck in the middle of nowhere and I was scared. My chest felt tight, and my body felt so cold. It was like the darkness was wrapping around me, pulling me deeper and deeper.“Hello?” I tried to speak, but no sound came out. My mouth moved, but nothing followed. Then, I saw a faint light but it was far away, it was soft and glowing like a star in the night sky. I stared at it, and something inside me pushed me to run. I started to move toward it slowly at first then faster. My bare feet didn’t touch the ground I didn’t even know if there was a ground but I was moving.“Travis…” I whispered, or at least I tried to amd I heard him call me faintly too. “Athena…”I gasped and kept running toward the light. “Wait!” I tried to shout. My mouth opened, but no sound came out.My throat felt tight, like something w
Matt’s POVI sat across Travis in his office. The room was quiet and the only sound was the ticking of the clock on the wall and the faint hum of the air conditioner.Travis sat behind his big desk with his eyes low and his face tight. He hadn’t said much since I walked in. Actually, he hadn’t said anything at all for three whole days since I gave him all the evidence about Chloe’s lies.I folded my arms and leaned back a little in the chair, trying to read his face but Travis was always hard to read. He always looked calm on the outside, even when he was breaking apart on the inside.Three days ago, I had told him the truth. I told him Hudson wasn’t his son and Michael wasn’t his son either. Both boys belonged to the illegitimate son of the dead Lycan king. Chloe had lied for years, and Travis had lived in that lie without ever suspecting. He didn’t say anything that day. He just took the file I handed him, looked through it, and nodded once amd left. After three long days, he final
