Athena’s POV
“Mom” I called, running into her arms immediately as the door opened. I pressed my face into her shoulder and the tears came. “Athena, my baby,” my mom whispered, stroking my hair. Raven was right behind me. She rushed forward and threw her arms around both of us and we held each other crying. “Are you okay?” I asked at the same time as my mom and she nodded. “I’m fine” I said sniffing loudly. She pulled back just a little to touch the bandage on my forehead. Her fingers were gentle, but I still flinched. “I’m okay,” I said quickly. “It’s not deep.” She looked into my eyes for a second, and I knew she was skeptical but she nodded. “I’m glad you’re okay,” she said quietly. That’s when I noticed the bruises on her arms, her cheek, and even on Raven’s body. As soon as I looked at them, Mom pulled her sleeves down and tried to smile. I swallowed hard feeling so much anger towards that devil Paige. “What happened?” she asked, looking behind me suddenly. Her eyes locked on the tall, burly man standing in the hallway, silently watching us. He was the guard Travis insisted he followed me in after I told him I’d like to meet them alone. “Are you okay, did you really kill the crown prince?” she asked again, more urgently now. “No!.. Mom I didn’t. Paige framed me for it because I caught her cheating with Hudson, Raven was also arrested for stealing because of that.” I explained. “Hudson cheated!, that bastard.” my mom swore silently and I smiled at how muderous she looked. “Raven I’m sorry.” I started “Everything is my fault.” “No Athena it’s not your fault. I’m just happy we are together now and alive. We were caught by Hudson’s guards but some men rescued us and brought us here.” She said. I looked around the house; it looked luxurious and massive. The walls were painted in soft gold and white, with long, flowing curtains that shimmered slightly when the light touched them. Everything looked expensive, the vases, marble floor and even the soft rug under my feet felt like something out of a royal palace. But it was all decorated with the Grey family crest. A silver wolf with glowing eyes on a black shield. “The Grey family crest is everywhere here,” my mom whispered slowly. “I don’t know who rescued us but I don’t think it’s safe here since we are wanted traitors and this clearly belongs to the Alpha’s family.” She said I looked down at my hands that were shaking a little “No mom… you should stay here.” I said urgently. She looked at me closely now, waiting for me to explain but I looked away. I couldn’t bring myself to say it. How could I tell her that my mate was Travis Grey? The ruthless Alpha king and father of Hudson we all knew and this was his property and he was the one protecting us from his own son? “What do you mean Athena” She asked. I bit my lip and shook my head. “Mom,” I said softly, “I’ll tell you everything later, I promise but you’re safe here and you’ll be protected that’s all that matters right now.” She looked worried, but she nodded and I knew she’d trust me and stay. I could see that in her eyes. “I have to go now,” I said, stepping back slowly. “But I’ll be back soon. I just needed to know you were okay.” “Please be careful.” She said grabbing my hand quickly. “I will.” “Athena,” Raven called softly, like she didn’t want me to leave. I hugged them both again. “I’ll be okay,” I whispered before following the guard out. We reached the front of the building where a sleek black car was waiting. I slid in and sat beside Travis. “You’re convinced they’re okay now?” he asked, turning his head to me. “Yes.” I nodded trying to blink away the tears that was threatening to fall. Before yesterday we were the traitor family but no one wanted us dead and I was also in love but now we were wanted by the same person I loved. My family was under death threats because of me. Without a word Travis reached for my hands like he could read my mind. His fingers closed around mine gently but firmly. I tried to resist it, but the didn’t let go and waves of shivers ran up my arms making me confused at my reaction towards him. It was like I wanted him to touch me even if I didn't want to admit it. “Thanks for saving them,” I said finally, my voice low. He smirked, just a little. But he didn’t say anything. He just looked out the window as the car started moving. I stared down at our hands. His thumb brushed over mine slowly and that one touch made my stomach flip. I hated how my body reacted to him so easily. I turned to look at him and gulped at how perfect his side profile looked; it didn’t help that the sun was streaming in and he was glistening. His jaw was tight and I gulped nervously. He was perfect too perfect. “I told you you’re mine and I’d protect you,” he replied, still not looking at me. “I don’t break promises.” He said I knew he was telling the truth and I didn’t know if I was elated or scared. “My mom’s going to freak out when I tell her the truth,” I said, more to myself than to him. He finally turned toward me, his eyes unreadable. “You didn’t tell her?” He asked I nodded slowly. “I couldn’t bring myself to.” I said biting my lips. “Will you tell her about it soon.” He asked his eyes fixed on me. “I don’t know,” I whispered refusing to look into his eyes. How do I even tell my mom my boyfriends father is my mate and it was not just any man it was Travis Grey. “I don’t care what anyone thinks,” he said. “You’re mine and I won’t let you go ever. That’s all that matters.”Paige’s POVI walked out of my room and closed the door behind me. The day was warm and quiet, and the sun made everything outside shine. I had heard some rumors that started two days ago. People whispered in the halls, at the training grounds, even near the packhouse kitchen that the previous Luna was back.If that was right they were talking about Chloe. The ex-Luna. I didn’t believe any of it.There was no way Chloe would come back here now. Not after everything that happened and she would have no title if she came back now. But even though I didn’t believe the rumors, a part of me didn’t want to check if they were true because if she really was back… I didn’t want to see her or be in the same place as her. The thought of her being close to me made me shudder;I didn’t want to breathe the same air.So I avoided places people said she might be. I had something else on my mind and wanted to see Hudson.I grabbed my small bag and left the house. The packhouse was just ahead. I knew th
Travis’s POVAthena straddled me and I kissed her neck as she snuggled into my chest, her arms around my neck, and I wrapped my arms around her waist. Her body was warm and soft, and I felt relaxed for the first time since all that shit went down.I leaned in and kissed her neck slowly. She let out a soft sigh, and I kissed her again, this time on her cheek, then her lips. She kissed me back, her fingers running through my hair gently. The room was quiet except for our breathing. The fireplace crackled softly behind us.“I have something to tell you,” I said, pulling back slightly to look into her eyes. She blinked up at me and nodded. “Okay. What is it?”“You saw the woman that came… when everything went down earlier?” I asked carefully.A flicker of sadness passed across her face, but she quickly hid it. She nodded. “Yes… I did.”I sighed and looked away for a second before speaking again. “That’s my ex-wife.”Athena didn’t move or say anything. She just looked at me, waiting.“I to
Athena’s POVI couldn’t hold back anymore. It was night already and the end of the second day and Travis still hadn’t come out of his study.I couldn’t sleep or eat and my heart felt like it was being crushed over and over again. I sat on the edge of the bed, holding a pillow tight against my chest, hoping it would stop the ache in my heart but it didn’t.Tears had dried on my face so many times, I lost count. What hurt the most wasn’t just what Travis saw… it was that he believed it. He truly believed I cheated on him.I stood up from the bed and limped a little as I walked to the mirror. My leg still hurt from where I twisted it that day. I had a bandage wrapped around it, and my eyes had dark circles beneath them from lack of sleep. I looked like someone who had lost everything and maybe I had.I wiped my face and walked out of the room. I needed to see him and talk to him. Since I met Travis, we had never been apart because of anger not like this. Even when we argued, we always f
Athena’s POVI paced around the room for hours. The afternoon sun had gone down, and now the night had come. Still, Travis didn’t return.I kept looking at the door, hoping I would hear the knob turn, hoping he would walk in and say something but it didn’t happen.I walked to the window, then back to the bed, then to the door, and then back again. My mind was all over the place.Earlier, I had asked the guards where he was. One of them said in a quiet voice, “He has been in his study all day, ma’am and hasn’t stepped out.”I asked if I could go there and he shook his head quickly. “No one is allowed in. He told us clearly not to let anyone in.”That broke me.My heart felt like someone had tied it with a rope and kept pulling tighter.I went back to the room and just stood there, staring at nothing. “This is all my fault,” I whispered to myself.Even though I had been asleep and didn’t even know what Hudson was doing until it was too late, I still blamed myself. I hated how it all happ
Travis’s POVI entered my study, and Chloe followed closely behind. The air in the room felt heavy the moment she stepped in. My fists were clenched by my side, but I tried to keep calm. She was older now; her once shiny hair was dull, and her face looked tired and worn out. There were lines around her eyes and mouth and her shoulders were slumped like someone who had carried a burden for too long.I turned around slowly and faced her."Why are you back, Chloe?" I asked, my voice hard. "After all these years… why now?"She swallowed hard and looked at me with eyes that seemed watery, but no tears fell. Her hands were shaking, and she held her arms close to her body like she was trying to protect herself."I’m sorry I came back this way, Travis," she said, her voice soft and cracking. "I had to. I had nowhere else to go."I stayed silent and listened. I wanted her to explain what she meant. She took a step closer. "I was robbed. Everything I have is gone. I was defrauded, scammed of th
Travis’s POVI stood frozen, my heart pounding in my chest. Standing in front of me was Chloe, my ex-wife that I hadn’t seen in eight years."Chloe," I whispered, barely able to believe it.She looked the same… and yet not the same. Her eyes were softer, almost sad. Her skin was pale like she hadn’t seen the sun in weeks, and her brown hair was longer now, brushing her shoulders."Travis," she said in a shaky voice, her eyes glistening with tears. She lifted her hand slowly, reaching out like she wanted to touch me.I stepped back immediately. My chest felt tight and my throat even tighter.I could feel Athena behind me. She was watching. I didn’t even need to turn, I felt her eyes on my back."Travis, I…I’m sorry," Chloe said quickly, her voice trembling. "I have a lot of things to say to you. Please… can we talk?"I didn’t know what to say because my head was spinning. Chloe was alive and in front of me. She had left after my brother died even though I begged her to stay and now she
