Elodie's POV

I don't want to be here. I seriously want to be anywhere else but in the same room as these blood-thirsty, heartless monsters.

At this moment, the dark room was ten times more preferable.

It was a room full of the people who had abducted and maltreated me. Not just me, but the other girls as well. They were eating and drinking and laughing, all comfortably. Like what they do to innocent girls isn't something to have sleepless nights over.

And worst of all, I was seated on my capt

Elodie's POV I looked down at the gun, then back at him. With an annoyed sigh, I shoved it against his chest. “Take your stupid gun.”His fingers wrapped around it with practiced ease.In one smooth motion, he removed the magazine, checked the chamber, engaged the safety, and set the pistol on the desk behind him.The entire process took only a few seconds, like he’d done it a thousand times. He slipped the gun back into the drawer before closing it with a quiet click.“See?” He tucked both hands into his pockets. “We can get along when you let me take control.”My stomach twisted, hearing his words and seeing the smile on his face.I slowly shook my head, folding my arms tighter. “Don’t flatter yourself,” I said, and one of his brows rose. “I’m not interested in whatever twisted fantasy you’ve got planned.”“Twisted fantasy?” he repeated, sounding genuinely puzzled.“You kidnapped me, locked me in this mansion, and refuse to let me leave.” I scoffed. “Forgive me if I don’t believe y

Elodie's POV With my heart in my throat, I tiptoed till I reached the door, head turning side to side, careful not to get caught.I gulped and peeked through the gap. I didn't notice anyone there, so I pressed closer, one hand placed against the door, and the other tightly gripping the side of my shorts. This was wrong. I knew I should've turned away the moment I noticed the door. But my curiosity got the better of me. Again.Nothing should've intrigued me in this house because everything about this place was bad luck. But here I was, snooping around. And now, I slowly pushed the door wider. It made a very low creak sound. I stepped inside, scanning around the room.It was a stiff space. Almost lifeless. It looked like an office—large desk, a leather chair, bookshelf with over a hundred books, a thick expensive-looking carpet at the center. The dim light didn't allow me to see the room fully. But I could make out that the paintings on the walls were all in black, white, and gray. Som

Elodie's POV I swallowed hard, my fist tightly clenched on my thighs under the table. I hated his tone. I hate that he had this much power over me. I hate how he gets away with everything. And I hate how powerless I am towards him. With a low sigh, I unclenched my fists and stood up, pushing the chair back and it made a screeching sound. I walked towards the chair on his right side. Pulling the chair out, I slipped in, my gaze staring down at the table. Valiente suddenly pulled the chair sharply toward him. I gasped at the suddenness of it. My chair hit the table and I jerked forward, almost falling off.He leaned closer, and I looked up at him, heart pounding loudly in my chest. "Continue to be defiant around me, and you'll get what you're asking for," he said, his voice dangerously low.I knew not to test him in this situation. I simply nodded, turning my head away.Soon, dinner was served and we started eating. At least, I was the one eating. Valiente's eyes were glued to his p

Elodie's POV Valiente took careful steps towards us. The guard’s fingers disappeared from my arm so quickly it was as if he’d been burned. He lowered his head. “My apologies, master.”Valiente didn’t answer. His dark eyes remained fixed on the guard, cold enough to make even me uncomfortable. Why does he have such an impact?“I don’t remember ordering you to manhandle her," he said to the guard. The guard swallowed, eyes moving everywhere but on Valiente. “I was only trying to stop her from entering the restricted area.”I almost scoffed. He was trying to keep me from entering the forest or was he harassing me? But I didn't say anything. “And grabbing her was your only option?” Valiente threw again, tilting his head to the side. The question came out too calm. The guard opened his mouth to speak again but it was as if the words got stuck in his throat. “I—” “I asked a question," Valiente cut him off. His tone had changed. The usual grin on his face had disappeared too.The guard s

Elodie's POV Valiente's voice yanked my back to the present. "Is your staring habit a psychological disorder?" He asked. "I thought that was only reserved for me?"I jerked and whipped my head to him, a small frown on my face. Then I sneered. "The only one at this table with any sort of psychological history is you."I ignored his last sentence. I couldn't battle in words with him.He chuckled. My stomach flipped. I'd almost forgotten what he looked like with that smile. "Maybe," he shrugged. His face was more relaxed now. Those protruding veins on his forehead had vanished. "But one can never tell, just by looking at the innocent little red."I glared at him, crossing my arms across my chest. "I am not innocent," I said before I could stop myself. "And stop calling me that," I said quickly, trying to mask my embarrassment, hoping he hadn't caught on to my first words. "I'm not little, nor red."His grin widened. His dark eyes watched Mr so closely, like a predator to its prey. "T

  • Craving His Captive: The Cartel Heir's Obsession (Book 1)   Chapter 23: Tension

Elodie's POV Perhaps I should've come up with an excuse not to join breakfast today. I should've used the fact that I haven't fully recovered. That would've been more believable.Rather I'm trapped here, on this table, sitting across from who could be Valiente's wife. The thought of this beautiful lady being married to the psychopath beside me made me sick to my stomach. Was she aware of the type of man he was? Maybe she didn't know that he kidnapped and imprisoned me here. I should tell her once he isn't in the room. But then, shouldn't she be angry that a girl was sitting so close to her husband?Could I have gotten it all wrong? My gaze stayed glued to the wedding band and engagement ring on her finger. The oval diamond looked huge—at least twenty-five carats—and it sparkled under the lights.Don’t ask me how I know about rings. It’s not like I’d spent hours looking them up online, hoping that one day Colin would get down on one knee and ask me to spend forever with him."Doesn't
