~ Anyssa's Pov ~

Fuck. He can't tell Dad. It would ruin me.

“You can't tell him,” I blurted, pleading.

“Then tell me who it was,” he folded his arms across his chest, waiting.

“So?”

“It was my teacher.”

His brows furrowed as he moved closer. I took a step back.

“Your teacher? Explain it to me.”

If anyone had told me I would spend my sister's engagement party on the balcony, explaining my possible ruin to my father's best friend—who is hot, by the way, I would have laughed at the thought.

“I was drunk that night and… and I hooked up with a guy. Somehow, he got the sex tape and is threatening to release it to the whole school on one condition.”

Fuck you, Mr. Brimsworth. Fuck you and your invisible hairline.

“Which is?”

“He wants me to get him a position at Dad's company, but he doesn't even qualify. I have given him money, but he doesn't want that.”

“How long has this been?” Ronan asked sternly.

“His threats started last week. Look, I don't mean to bore you with this information. I just need to get myself out of this situation. I am at my finals and interning at a reputable company is my goal. If that video leaks, it would not only damage my reputation but ruin my chances in my finals.”

He stretched out his hand in front of me. “Phone.”

I handed him my phone, and he took it, tapping on the screen calmly.

“What are you doing?”

“Hold on.”

“You have to tell me what you did.”

He sighed, handing me my phone back. “I texted him back. Told him to meet you at school tomorrow.”

“Are you serious? You just made it worse!”

“No. You would meet him tomorrow at school and bring him to my company. Tell him you finally got him a position, but at my company. I suppose that would make him ecstatic.”

“I thought your company is in New York.”

“It is, but I have a branch here, and I will be overseeing a project tomorrow.”

“What would you do when he arrives?”

He smirked, raking his eyes over me. My stomach churned—not in disgust, but with something I couldn't quite place. My heart thudded in my chest as I reveled in the feeling of being watched by him. Somehow, being around him made my chest... hurt?

“I will be waiting for you tomorrow. Have a nice evening,” he said and walked away.

—----------------------------------------------------------

Fucking Mr. Brimsworth jumped at the offer. The slimy little fucker. When I told him exactly what Ronan said, he happily followed me to the company. And now here we are, standing in front of L&T Cooperation.

We were ushered inside, and the receptionist rang his office. As we sat in the waiting room, I watched Mr. Brimsworth happily pacing, waiting for his interview.

God, what if Ronan was going to interview him? He promised to settle this, so I should trust him.

I can't trust a man I do not know.

The door opened, and Ronan walked into the room with a wide smile on his face. He didn’t even look a bit disturbed. In fact, it looked like he was ready to give Brimsworth a job this instant.

“Mr. Brimsworth? It's so nice to meet you,” he said, shaking his hand.

“It is so nice to meet you, sir. Thank you for this opportunity.”

“Please, follow me.” He guided us into his office, and I stood as I watched him offer Brimsworth a seat.

“Anyssa tells me you have wanted a job in this company for a while. I hope it doesn't bother you that she couldn't get a position at her father's company?”

“Oh, no, it doesn’t. I am happy to work here and can show you any qualifications you need, sir. Matter of fact, I brought my papers,” he said, pulling out the envelope he held between his arms and side.

Brimsworth was the definition of a snake in the grass. My first few months in Florida were hell because of him. When he found out that my father was the Alpha, he made it his mission to undermine me at every opportunity. He teaches coding, and while it is not my major it is key to my study, which is Business Analysis. Brimsworth decided to make my stay at UCF a living hell. I had to repeat tests, and honestly, I do not know how he got hold that video, but since then, my time here has been worse.

Showing it to my father is one thing. Letting the whole school see it is jeopardy.

“Can I see your qualifications?” Ronan asked, and Brimsworth handed him the papers.

“These look good…but not entirely great. You worked as a Data Analyst, but you have no recommendation from your employer. The company is also not a reputable one, so I don’t see the qualification here,” Ronan said, dropping the papers.

“I worked as a Data Analyst, and I do think your company needs one for business.”

“The codes are poorly done. This isn’t your best work, and you’re showing this to me?”

Wait…a sec. He isn’t hiring him.

“I believe my history as a Data Analyst qualifies me for a job here. You need me on your team, Mr—”

“Sir. It’s sir to you.”

Brimsworth swallowed. “Sir. As I was saying, the—”

“That’s enough. I don’t see any qualifications here. In fact, what I see is someone so desperately in need of a job that he doesn’t qualify for one. You think this is some game? Working in my company means bringing your A-game, and from your trashy ‘qualifications’, I don’t see it.”

“If you could look—”

“No. It’s people like you who think they actually matter, but in reality, they do not add anything to society and they’re nothing but a liability.”

Low blow.

~ Anyssa's Pov ~“You need to let him know, Nyssa,” Vanessa urged. After the short meeting with Mavis at the coffee place, I shot a text to Vanessa, and we met at Ronan’s place.“I don't know. This is his son that we're talking about. Not just anyone. Not just a stranger, his own flesh and blood.”“He is blackmailing you. It's not just about you, Nyssa. Ronan needs to know what his son does now. How can someone change so quickly? Does that wife of his not keep him in check?”I hated how he had gotten under my skin to blackmail me. He now knew my secret, and I couldn't risk anyone finding out about Ronan or us.What if he loses everything?“Look,” she shifted. “He wants to get under your skin. He thinks that he has the upper hand, but he doesn't. You have to show him that you know better. Don't let this get to you.”Oh, how I wish. You know what sucks, though? The fact that I'm shaking in my pants because of this. This was a man that I was in love with. My own best friend. Oh, how the t

  • Craving My Father's Best Friend   Chapter 64: Koko Jitters

~ Anyssa's Pov ~ I didn't think I'd heard him properly.“You cut him off? Why?”“He hurt you,” was all he said. Mavis is his son, his own flesh and blood. A part of me felt bad, like it was my fault.I knew I shouldn't feel that way, but I couldn't help it. I knew how much Ronan loved his son, and now that the two of them were becoming close, I had spoiled it.I shifted in my bed, planning to stand to my feet.“You can't do that. You can't just cut off your son for me because you want to keep me safe.”He cupped my cheeks, forcing me to look straight into his dark eyes. “I would do anything to keep you safe. What Mavis did was wrong, and I won't let anything happen to you while I'm here. Understood?”I don't think anyone has ever said that to me. No one had ever gone the extra mile to protect me. All my life, I'd lived to protect myself, to look out for myself. So hearing this man, listening to his words, made my heart thrum in my chest. It made me feel special, like I really did me

~ Ronan's Pov ~ “Come in,” I responded to the knock on the door.Mavis walked into my office, both hands in his pockets.“Hey, Dad. You wanted to see me?”“Yeah. Sit down,” I said, my face straight on my computer before I looked up at him.“Are you feeling any better now?”“For what?” he asked, confused.“You told me you needed some time off because of some things. Remember?”“Oh, yeah. I did need some time off.”I noticed the way he sat in the chair, unbalanced and uncomfortable. His eyes were on the laptop in such a way that one would think they were on me. Mavis had always done this anytime he was hiding something.“So, do you feel any better? You know you have a company to work at, right? You don't necessarily have to oversee this one since I'm here.”“Yeah. I know, Dad. I just like it here in New York. Plus, Ruby likes it here too.”“Hmm.”“What's wrong? You're acting weird.”I relaxed into my chair, folding my hands. “Like you want to say something to me and you're waiting for t

  • Craving My Father's Best Friend   Chapter 62: Truth We Tell

~ Ronan's Pov ~ I watched her closely as she gently opened her eyes, scanning the room before they landed on me.“Hey, baby,” I said softly, touching her cheeks.“Hi.”She tried to sit up straight, but I prevented her from doing so. I helped her adjust the pillow properly, gently enough so it wouldn't shake the drip.“How are you feeling? We brought you to the hospital when you collapsed in the elevator.”“Oh… yeah. I-I'm sorry I didn't—”“It's okay, don't say anything, baby. The doctor said it's from anxiety and you had a panic attack. You're on a drip for strength because you were weak, baby.”She placed a hand on her chest and then on her head before holding mine. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.“You just need to rest.”I was worried sick. I didn't waste any time when I heard she'd collapsed in the elevator. What I didn't understand was why, and what? What was she afraid of? Why had she gone into shock and had a panic attack?I looked at her, studying her to find o

  • Craving My Father's Best Friend   Chapter 61: Lies We Tell

~ Anyssa's Pov ~ I can't get over that night. Over the way he held me. Grabbed me like I was some kind of thing. Like I wasn't even human. It baffles me because this person used to be my best friend—my first love—and now I can't see him as anything more than a monster.“Nyssa!” I bolted upright in my chair before looking up at Ronan.“Oh, I'm sorry. Did you need anything?”He narrowed his eyes at me before introducing the woman beside him. A brunette in her late thirties stood there, dressed in a beautiful burgundy slim-fitted dress and jewelry that I guessed was expensive because it looked the part.“Are you okay?” he asked, worry etched on his face. I can't tell him about what Mavis did last night. I can't do that. He wouldn't be able to take it.“It's nothing. I just didn't get much sleep last night because I was working on some stuff.”He nodded, acting weird himself before introducing me to our guest.“This is Patty. Patty West. She'll be the new managing director.”“What? I tho

  • Craving My Father's Best Friend   Chapter 60: Fear

~ Anyssa's Pov ~ I froze as Ronan approached us. How was I going to explain what he was doing here... and with flowers? I looked back at Mavis, who had a confused look on his face.Fuck.“I just came back from a party and thought to check up on Nyssa,” Ronan said.“And the flowers?” Mavis pointed out.“Oh... these are for my date. She forgot to take them when I dropped her off.”My racing heart finally calmed down when the look on Mavis's face became neutral. I swallowed and slowly turned to Ronan, about to act like this was all a coincidence.“You didn't have to come see me, sir.” I hated calling him that, knowing he was more than that.“It's okay, Nyssa. I just needed you to send those documents you promised to send today. They're important, and I need you to work on them and send them, okay?”He looked at me, and then back at his son. This was weird. This was so weird, having father and son both at my place. And what the fuck did Mavis just say?“Alright then. Oh, and Mavis, what
