~Ronan's Pov~

I can't take my eyes off her. All night, I've been staring like some idiot while she talks to someone else. And by that someone, I mean… Larry Buck. All night? She's acting like she's not my date.

I walked over to where they stood, chatting. Nyssa laughed at whatever the hell he just said. I don’t like that. Why would she laugh at his jokes? The guy isn’t that funny—have you met him?

“Fancy meeting you here, Larry,” I said, sliding my hands onto her waist and pulling her close to me. She stiffened and her smile disappeared. Weird, because she was laughing just a few minutes ago.

“Alpha! It’s been so long. I didn’t know you were back in the city.”

“I am.”

He smiled and looked back at Nyssa, his eyes drifting from where I held her to her eyes. “So, are you still taking up that offer? I can show you so many cities, and you’ve mentioned you love traveling.”

“I’ll… think about it.”

Like hell she would.

“If you’ll excuse me, I’d hate to be a party pooper, but there are some important people I want Nyssa to meet.”

“Oh… it’s fine.” Good.

Before she could oppose me, I dragged her away to the other end of the room behind the pillars. I pushed her against one of them—luckily, this spot was hidden from the party, giving me the chance to say whatever I wanted without prying eyes.

“What was that?”

“What? You tell me. What did you need me for? As far as I know, there’s no important person I’m meeting.”

“Why were you with Larry? What were you two talking about?” This isn’t prying, just making sure she’s not sharing my company’s business with strangers.

“Is that really why you took me out of there?”

“Answer the question, Nyssa.”

“No, I won’t because it’s a stupid question. You’ve been acting strange since we got here.”

“Have you forgotten that you’re my plus one at this party, not Larry’s?”

She rolled her eyes and tried to walk away, but I wouldn’t let her. I pushed her back to the pillar and placed my hand over her head to block her path.

“Did you just roll your eyes at me?”

Her expression shifted from shocked to confused as she looked at me.

“Larry was just telling me about the cities and countries he’s traveled to. It’s nothing, really. He’s planning a trip and offered to take me along. Satisfied?”

“Okay.”

“Can I go now? You’re acting weird and meddling in my business. I don’t like it.”

I closed my eyes, giving her space to leave.

“You may be my boss, but you have no right to dictate what I do or who I interact with. I hope you understand that.” And with that, she left.

Fuck. What came over me? I can’t be feeling possessive over her like that.

—-------------------------------------------------

She's not answering my calls, and she's late to work. I have a meeting in five minutes, and she's the one with the file I need. I don't even know why I bother trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. Soon, everyone in the company will think I'm having a thing for my best friend's daughter because I let her do whatever she wants.

Nyssa dashed into my office, file in hand, dressed in a knee-length pencil skirt and a silk wine top that complemented her hair color.

"You're late."

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I overslept and lost track of time. I promise this won’t happen again."

"You think? This is your second week working here, and your performance last week was terrible. You were sick, and now you're late. What’s it going to be next time?"

"I didn't know—"

"Read your emails; that's why I sent them to you. If you're too slow to do that, stick to your schedule. You don’t expect me to pay you when you don’t work like half of your colleagues."

She stiffened and dropped her eyes to the floor. "I'm sorry I lost track of time. It won’t happen again."

"It better not. I can't keep excusing your laziness.”

~ Ronan's Pov ~“What should I do now?” I asked Calder as he took a seat on the chair in front of me.“She wants to know about her past, and I need to tell her. I already feel guilty for lying to her about it.”“Didn't the doctor say you should give it time?”“You don't understand, Calder.”“I do. I understand as much as you do. This is my daughter I'm talking about, yet you wonder why I'm so calm about the situation. I do want her to get better. I do want her to get her memories back, but if those memories would hurt her, I'd rather not do it.”I can't sit. I can't rest. For days, I've thought this through. After what happened at Willow Creek, I'm too scared to keep this from her.“I know it's hurting you, but you have to think about it. Not telling her is the logical thing to do. Plus, the last time you did, you know what happened. Have you even talked to the doctor about this?”“I have,” I sighed. “She said she wouldn't really know if she's ready for her memories or not. It must co

~ Anyssa's Pov ~I was pregnant? I couldn't respond to the bomb he had just dropped on me. For some reason, my mouth could barely open. I was still in shock.“How many?” I finally asked. He took a deep breath before responding. “Three. They were triplets.”Three babies?I had three babies, and now I have lost them? How?I didn't say a word. I just held his hand, and we walked around the park. I noticed children running around with their toys, their parents picking them up off the ground when they fell. The smiles on their faces whenever they played with sand or came down a slide. Willow Creek looked like a normal park, which had a children's side and an adult side.Yet it felt homely. Yes, I did feel a pang in my chest from watching them. Somehow, it felt like that should be me watching my own child run around with sand in her or his shoes.Honestly, I usually wouldn't think about children because I had always made up my mind that starting a family wasn't something I would love.Growi

~ Ronan's Pov ~I got out of the car, and one of my security guys, Allen, ran toward me the moment I stepped out.The worry on his face was alarming.“Boss,” he said.“What's the matter?”“We think there might be a fire outbreak inside the house or some other problem. We've been trying to reach Madame inside, but she's not answering.”“What do you mean you think?” I didn't wait for him to respond. I rushed to the door.I opened it, and smoke filled the whole room. The alarm was blaring, but there was no fire.“Anyssa! Nyssa!” I shouted her name, trying to locate her. I mean, I could barely see shit through the smoke—it stung my eyes.God, she should be okay. Please, she should be okay. My heart hammered in my chest from fear. If nothing else, I wanted her to be conscious. What the fuck even happened?I coughed, still shouting her name, until I spotted a small figure in the smoke. It was Nyssa, holding a tray filled with what looked like burnt cookies. She had a nose mask on, and her c

  • Craving My Father's Best Friend   Chapter 80: Flashes

~ Anyssa's Pov ~My bed felt wet, and I could feel hands crawling…latching onto my neck. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't move. I tried to open my mouth to scream, but all that came out was a whispered cry.Suddenly, images flashed through my memories: blood…tears…me, crying. Dead bodies and swift flashes again. I moved my legs, trying as hard as I could to escape my own head. What the fuck was even happening to me?I tried to cry for help—maybe then I would wake up from this dream. When it felt like I was swimming in a bottomless pit, I awoke. Heat spread across my chest; my bed was soaked. My heart raced, thumping inside my chest as I breathed heavily. The room was dark, the air conditioning on, but I still felt too heated. I switched on the night lamp beside the bed, trying to count my breaths. What was that about? And what were those flashes? Could they truly be my memories?I tried to steady my breaths, got out of bed, and left my room. A cold glass of water would help right now. I

  • Craving My Father's Best Friend   Chapter 79: Promises under the rain

~ Ronan’s POV ~This meeting was by far the worst I had ever had. Why did I even fucking attend it?I checked my wristwatch again, groaning when I figured out I had two long hours left. I had promised to take Nyssa out to the movies, and I wouldn't go back on my promises now.I stood up, about to leave, when Cosmos called out.“What's the rush, Mr. King?”“I have to take my wife to a special place today.”“Oh, I didn't know she was awake. With that kind of coma, I'm guessing one would suffer from temporary amnesia.”I hated Cosmos. He had always had this idea that he was better than everyone. Maybe the masters in medicine and two honors in business made him think that way.“I don't see how that's any of your business, Cosmos.”He smiled. “I apologize. I don't mean to be rude.”“Good.”I didn't wait for any more talk as I dashed out of the boardroom. Fuck this meeting anyway.By the time I got home, it had started raining. Nyssa stood by the entrance, an umbrella clutched to her breasts

  • Craving My Father's Best Friend   Chapter 78: Bread

~ Anyssa's Pov ~This sucks, I thought as once again I stared at the ceiling in my room. I woke up this morning feeling determined and brave enough to go explore my home–a home that felt both familiar and strange. Now, to no surprise to anyone, I still was in my said room, unable to bring myself to cross the door.Chanel gave me a soft look. “You don't have to beat yourself up like this ma'am.”“Is it that obvious?” I asked, turning to look at her properly.“You have been sighing and huffing for some time now.”Damn.“No one is giving you a deadline or anything like that,” she continued, arranging my clothes as she spoke. “You just have to take it easy and not rush the healing process.”“What if my memories never come back? What if staying cooped up here is making the process longer?” I sighed. “I wish I wasn't so fucking afraid.”She paused and stared at me for a while. “Have you ever thought about what you're afraid of?”I blinked. Of course I've thought about it. I have had nothin
