Chapter 39: Get In The Car, Christiana

**Christiana’s POV**

“Do you want a husband?”

I turned my head sharply at the sound of the question, half expecting it to be some kind of street joke.

The woman standing beside me was short, round-faced, and wearing a floral headscarf that was tied under her chin like something out of an old movie. She had a purse tucked under one arm and a grocery bag under the other. Her smile was wide, mischievous.

“What?” I asked, certain I had misheard her.

“A husband,” she repeated, as if she were offering me a cup of coffee. “Free of charge. My son needs a wife, and you...” she waved a hand up and down in my direction “... you are too beautiful to be standing at a bus stop alone in Houston.”

I blinked at her. “That’s… very generous of you, but...”

“You don’t have to answer now,” she said, cutting me off. “He’s handsome, works construction, doesn’t drink too much, and has all his teeth. You would be lucky.”

I let out a startled laugh, sha

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 96: I love you

Chapter 96: I love you**Bryan’s POV**Christiana placed the medicine bag carefully on the table, her fingers lingering there longer than necessary, like letting it go meant letting go of something more than just pills. Her shoulders rose and fell with a shaky breath before she finally turned to face me. Her eyes found mine, unsteady but fierce, the storm inside her barely contained. She sat on the couch, and I followed and we are both facing each other with one of our legs on the couch, for better access to each other I braced myself for the blow of whatever truth she carried but instead, her expression softened. She blinked as if remembering something, then whispered, “You said you needed to see me… How are you holding up?” Her hands rose gently, cupping my cheeks again, her palms warm against my skin. That simple touch unravelled me in ways I didn’t think possible. She was everything I needed, comfort, softness, a place where the chaos inside me could quiet for just a breath.

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 95: The Revelation

Chapter 95: The Revelation **Bryan’s POV** I had wound down my car window to take a bit of the night air, but it did nothing to quiet the storm inside me. If anything, it only made the hollow ache sharper, every breath colder. I sat in the car, parked along the curb outside Christiana’s house, engine off, darkness pressing in from all sides. The neighbourhood was quiet, eerily, the kind of quiet that amplifies your own thoughts until they roar louder than thunder. My hands gripped the steering wheel so tight my knuckles stood out bone-white, tendons straining. I couldn’t bring myself to move, couldn’t bring myself to leave. Christiana’s name was everything I wanted my mind to be focused on, that’s only when I am relieved from the thought of my mother’s death and even my devlish wife, Bella. It was the only word that had lived in my mouth since morning, the only thought my mind allowed me. From the moment I woke with it lingering on my lips, to the fight with Bella, to the moment

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 94: Try not to hurt him

Chapter 94: Try not to hurt himChristiana’s POV “Do you know what it feels like?” he asked, his voice low, shaking with the effort of control. “To love someone your whole damn life and watch them look right past you? To stand there while another man gets the pieces of you I’ve begged for? Your heart. Your body. Your future. And I… I’m just the safety net. The one you fall back on when it all goes wrong.” “I never wanted to hurt you,” I whispered, the words breaking, useless even as they left me. His eyes snapped back to mine, blazing. “Right” His chest heaved, his voice rising. “You’re still doing it. I’ve offered my name, my protection, my silence, my future, you still choose him.” My throat closed, my body trembling. “I am sorry.” The words barely left my lips before Tony surged to his feet, his chair scraping harshly across the tile, the sound grating against my nerves. He dragged a hand through his hair, pacing the small, sterile room like a man who couldn’t contain himself,

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 93: You can never be him.

Chapter 93: You can never be him. **Christiana’s POV** Imagining getting married to Tony irritated me in a way I couldn’t even put into words. The thought clawed at my skin. I tried to picture it, to paint the scene in my mind while he sat there pouring his heart out. But no matter how I turned it, it felt wrong. It felt like pressing myself into a mould that wasn’t mine, like forcing a puzzle piece where it didn’t belong. It felt like incest. That was the only word I could find for it. He wasn’t my brother, by blood, but he was close enough to it in my heart. He had always been there steadying me when I stumbled, his laugh chasing away my storms, his presence like air: invisible, constant, taken for granted.. He wanted to be more. I honestly didn’t know what to say. My lips trembled around silence. I shifted against the pillows, clutching the sheet tighter, but it didn’t help. The truth had me cornered. Tony sat on the chair beside my bed, his fingers gripping his knees as tho

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 92: Convincing

Chapter 92: Convincing**Tony’s POV**I thought I did a lot of convincing, you know. I thought the words I said to her would make her consider the fact of it and do my bidding, but she was still reluctant about it and it was beginning to piss me off “Tony…” I shook my head quickly, cutting her off before she could refuse, before she could break me with words I wasn’t ready to hear. “I know what you’re going to say. That it’s not fair. That it’s not right. That I deserve someone who loves me the way I love them. But Christy…” My voice cracked, raw, and I leaned closer until my forehead almost touched hers, until I could feel the heat of her breath against my lips.“…I don’t care about fair. I don’t care about right. I care about you. I care about keeping you safe. I care about giving this child a name that won’t be dragged through the mud. I care about protecting Bryan from the kind of scandal that could destroy him when he’s already broken.” Her breath shuddered against me, close e

  • Craving The Enemy's Husband   Chapter 91: Love without end

Chapter 91: Love without end *Tony’s POV* “I don’t know what you want me to say,” she whispered finally, her lashes wet, her cheeks streaked with tears. “I wanted to ask you to marry me,” I admitted, the words bitter on my tongue. They felt foreign, almost poisonous, but they were true. “I told myself I would wait until you took over the Salazar empire. Until you were ready. I thought…” My voice broke, jagged, and I forced the rest out through clenched teeth. “I thought you needed time.” Her chest hitched, and I didn’t give her room to answer. The bitterness surged again. “At first you talked about your childhood love from Chicago, how you were waiting for him to marry you. Do you know what that did to me? It shredded me, Christy. But I waited. I told myself you’d get over him. That eventually…” My laugh came out cracked, hollow, an echo of all the years I’d lost. “… but while I was waiting, you gave yourself to Bryan. You gave him what should have been mine.” She shook her head
