LOGINI freeze as pain, shock and disbelief flood my insides. I feel like someone just punched me in the guts. I turn to look at Gina and she has a wide smile on her face. There's no trace of shock. It's like she knew all along who Valen was going to choose tonight.
My chest squeezes, the betrayal burning deep. It would have been bearable if Valen chose her and she didn't know about it. But thinking that she knew his choice all along made me feel like a joke. The hall erupts into cheers and claps as Gina's heels click on the marble floor as she makes her way to the stage where Valen is standing. My vision blurs for a moment as I watch them smile to each other so lovingly. I stagger back and almost fall but my brother whom I forgot was besides me all along holds me in position. “ Am I dreaming?” I whisper and I feel Alex's hold on me tighten. “ That bastard!” Alex curses from beside me. His hands are clenched and I feel a murderous aura emanating from his body. “ How dare he humiliate you in front of the whole pack!” My heart twists painfully as I watch Valen take Gina's hand in his. They look so happy together while I stand here, breaking slowly. We made a promise to each other. We swore to always be by each other's side so what changed and when? I think back to Gina's weird question earlier then to how Valen avoided my gaze when I entered. I can't help the bitter chuckle that escapes my lips. They played me for a fool, that realization hits hard. “ Are you alright?” My brother asks and I shake my head. Not only am I not alright,I don't think I'll ever be after this betrayal. I take one step back, then again and before I know it,I am already standing at the mini bar at the end of the hall. “ Can I please have a drink? The strongest you have.” I request the bartender who nods and pours me an amber liquid. I take a shot,my face contorting but I force it down either way. Everyone is clicking their glasses happily. My pain remains invisible. No one seems to notice me. They are too engrossed in congratulating Valen and Gina to notice me. My brother Alex stands before me. “ Do you think this will ease your pain? Do you think it will make you feel any better?” He asks. His voice is soft and I can feel the concern laced on his words. “ At least it'll numb my senses. That's better than watching him happy with my supposed best friend.” I snap back. “ Let me accompany you then.” He offers but I shake my head. “ No need. I want to be alone.” I declare, grab my glass and walk away. I step outside the hall, the cold breeze hitting my skin. I close my eyes, trying to contain the pathetic tears stinging me. “ Running away?” A familiar voice sounds from behind me. However, the warmth I am used to in that voice is gone and replaced by mockery. I turn around and come face to face with a sneering Gina. “ You can't handle the fact that Valen chose me over you. That's why you are running to hide your pathetic face, right.” She mocks. Looking at her giving me a disdainful look,I can't help but wonder if she is the same Gina whom I have grown up with, shared everything including my secrets with. “ I see you are finally tired of masking the real you.” I retort. Gina snickers. “ That's right. I am tired of being your lackey. I won't be your doormat anymore, serving your every whim.” She declares with so much hatred. “ What are you talking about? I have always treated you like my friend.” I counter in confusion. Gina sneers. “ Friend? I don't think so. In your eyes,I am nothing compared to your beta status. You've always treated me like I was born to serve you and remain beneath you. No matter what I do,you outshine me, stealing my thunder. Everyone knows me not because I am Gina but because I am always following behind you.” Gina's words come out like double edged swords, piercing my heart to bleed. I look at the person I called my best friend for years and I can't even recognise her anymore. “ Is that what you've always thought of me? A fake friend who wanted nothing but to suppress you?” I ask and she sneers. “ Isn't that what you are? A slithering snake disguised as a friend.” She accuses, her hands coiled around her chest. She didn't bother to mince her words or hide the hatred she feels for me. How did I not see the type of person she was before? “ Now,you'll serve under me. I'll make sure I snatch everything you hold dear. Valen was just the beginning. Once I become the Luna of this pack,I'll do everything to turn you to the nobody you thought I am.” She declares with an evil grin on her face. Hearing her words,I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. “ You are indeed delusional. Do you think Valen choosing you over me makes you noble?” I sneered. “ A scank will always remain to be one. Now,I'll show you what it feels to be a nobody.” I declare and turn around and head back to the party. If she thinks she can step on me just because she has Valen on her side, then I'll show her what real victory looks like. With a confident smile and a goal in mind,I saunter inside the hall like I own it. My eyes scan for a familiar face. It doesn't take long to spot him. Target locked, I whisper to myself. Now,I just need to put my good skills into use .As always,he has that panty wetting smile on his face. Besides him is a woman who is obviously flirting with him. He doesn't need to try hard to have women vying for his attention. Rumor has it that he never shares a bed with a woman twice whether by chance of choice. I plaster a smile on my face, grab a flute of wine and saunter towards him. Five steps and I am standing behind him, ready to make my presence known. “Are you free tonight, Alpha Theo? We can have some fun.” A blonde haired lady suggests, a seductive smile painting her lips. Before he can say anything, “I'm sorry. He is taken for the night.”First Person’s PerspectivePercyI wasn’t trying to eavesdrop or listen in on their conversationHonestly, I wasn’t. I had gone down to the kitchen for something sweet to calm my nerves, something to soothe the uneasy and anxious feeling that I felt, sleep had been impossible lately, especially with Ron pacing at night like a caged wolf. I stirred honey into my tea with half frozen fingers, muttering under my breath about the godforsaken draft in the corridor window again. My slippers made soft thuds against the cold stone floors as I made my way back upstairs. That’s when I heard his voice.Ron.He was in the study. The door—careless, as always—was left slightly ajar, just enough to let a voice slip through the crack like smoke.“I told you already,” Ron said. His tone wasn’t loud, but it cut through the silence like a blade. Sharp, deliberate. “Borin and Terak were careless. They let their egos get in the way. Salvatore retaliated, just like I warned them he would. But now it’s time
Third Person LimitedSalvatoreThe wind howled outside the fortress walls like a living thing—restless, angry, relentless. The sound reverberated through the stone corridors of the stronghold, rattling windowpanes and stirring the flames in wall sconces. Inside the war room, Salvatore sat behind his large oak desk, unmoving, a shadow among maps and ledgers. His elbows rested heavily on the desk’s surface, his fingers rhythmically tapping against the edge, creating a sound that was steady but unthinking. His eyes, sharp as a predator’s and dark as midnight, stared blankly at the battlefield map spread out before him.Colored pins pierced through various points across the map—markers of skirmishes lost and won, key resource routes, ambush sites, suspected enemy hideouts. The map looked more like a bleeding carcass than a strategy guide. But none of that held his focus now. What haunted him—what clung to the edges of his mind like a thorn embedded under skin—were the scout’s words.“They
Valen’s POVAn idea struck me when I got out. I can actually blow my own trumpets. I called for my warriors to meet me in the training yard."Alpha, what can we do for you?" my head warrior asked."I need to spar. Who wants to challenge their Alpha?"Of course, he already knows what I need. I had texted him earlier. I had told him to make sure I won easily, but to make it look good. I needed to show my dominance before tonight. At another end, was a servant making a live video"I'll spar with you, Alpha," Jake volunteered. We circled each other, and then he attacked. But it was exactly like we had planned. He fought well enough to make it interesting, but I overpowered him easily as planned. Then another warrior stepped up, and another. I beat them all. The head where you had made sure to pass my information across to all of them- anyone who spars with me must let me win"Alpha, you're magnificent!" one of them said, breathing hard."No one can defeat you," another added. “Every time
Valen’s POV“Valen, we need to start getting ready too,” my wolf said after I hung up on Gina. “We need to prepare like every other person too.”“Yes,yes,” I replied. “Let me call for the servant in charge of my clothI called for the servant who takes care of my clothes. He came running immediately."Alpha, you called for me?""Yes. How is my suit coming along? Is it ready?"Marcus smiled proudly. "Almost finished, Alpha. The tailors are just putting the final touches on it. It will be perfect for tonight.""Good. I want to look like the Alpha I am.""Of course, Alpha. You will look amazing."After Marcus left, I went to my mirror to practice. Gina had told me to work on my speech, the one I would give before I crushed Veyra in front of everyone. I stood there, watching myself, perfecting every word. Every pause and every expression was perfect. I wanted to see the exact moment when Veyra's you realise that she has been playedI was still practicing when another servant knocked on m
Valen’s POVThe night went exactly as I planned. Veyra gave herself to me completely. She felt loved She praised me. She praised herself, calling herself the future Luna. How ironicWhen it was over, she curled up against me, her breathing soft and satisfied.”This is the best sex we have had in a long time…” she said as she hugged me. Her bare chest pressing on mine. She has a really soft body. I love the shape of her breasts. I will miss her body for that. She looked so peaceful, so happy. I held back my laughter“The sex was boring as usual,” I said, indulging Dada,“I can't stand her, Dada replied with disgust. “I hate the way she clings to us. She is a whore! She cheated on us! And to top it all, sex with her is boring. I miss Gina,” he sighed“Me too, Dada,” I sighed too. “Don’t worry, tomorrow night will be different,” I assured him. “Tomorrow night we'll be with our real mate.”“About time,” Dada growled. “We need to move on from her completely”I couldn't agree more. I miss G
Valen’s POV"I am so sorry for everything I did. I should never have doubted you,” Veyra whispered against my lips. "I don’t even understand myself lately. I missed my mental health check up twice. I think I need to go back and ask for more medicine. Gina posted something about mental health and I resonated with it. I don’t want my mental health issues to spoil our relationship…”"Shh. Stop talking about that. Everything is going to be fine. Even though your head is unstable, you are still my baby and I still love you.”She nodded, accepting my words completely. “Thank you…”"I have another surprise planned for tomorrow," I told her. "Something that will make up for today."Her face lit up. "Really? What is it?""Would I be able to call it a surprise if I tell you what it is?” I smiled at her. If only she knewShe laughed, “I agree, but I cannot wait!” she yelped in excitement"Good. I am working to make sure that it is going to be very unforgettable. It is different from the one I pl
