Lauren’s hands trembled, the document—Last Will and Testament of Thomas Devon—clutched tightly, its words a betrayal she couldn’t fathom. Tom Devon, her Tom, had willed Orchid Enterprises to be sold, his fortune left to his mother, Helen Devon.

Her tears brimmed, her heart splintering, Helen’s smirk in the conference room a cruel echo of her funeral accusations—slut, liar, cheat. The shareholders’ murmurs faded, their faces blurring as Lauren’s resolve crumbled.

In the hallway, her breath hitched, her tears threatening as she stumbled, her shoulder brushing a figure. She glanced up, her eyes meeting Khalid, a senior engineer at Orchid Enterprises, his face etched with sorrow, his dark eyes heavy.
