“ I'll marry you” Lauren Greene said the words in utter desperation. Getting married to a crippled man whom she had never seen until that day was not something she had ever imagined she would do but when her mother had a cardiac arrest and needed an emergency surgery, she didn't care. This was her only choice. Alexander Magnus lost his parents in a hit and run accident which left him crippled at the age of ten. He went abroad to study afterwards, returning after twenty years to take over his father's company. The only person he ever talked to was his childhood friend and saviour, Melissa McCarthy. He cherished and loved her with his whole heart but much to his dismay, she never showed up for their court wedding. There he met Lauren Greene. How will Lauren cope with the aftermath of her impulsive decision? What happens when Alexander demands for an heir as payment for her mother's surgery? If their marriage supposedly worked out, what happens when dark pasts begin to surface?
View More"Sir." Dan called, walking into the spacious office hurriedly, the office was neat as usual and extremely cold as it always was. The coldness was from the man seated at the far end of the table close to the window where he could see everything going on outside.
Handsome with a pointed nose, a sea blue eye ball and a dark hair which was styled backward, his looks were enough to make any woman melt before him but his cold looks and condition would make one have a second thought about him.
He had everything a woman would want but he was on a wheelchair. A condition he wasn't born with but the condition life threw him in. He met with an unfortunate fate which took the life of his parents and made him paralyzed on a wheelchair when he was just ten.
From a lively and carefree boy, he became cold and insecure cause he felt like a liability to others. But when he discovered who was behind the death of his parents, he became ruthless and that gave him the strength to take what belongs to him from the hands of his uncle.
"What do you want?" He asked without sparing the man before him a glance.
"I'm sorry for barging in the way I just did, but I need to tell you this urgently." Dan said.
"I'm all ears." He said with his eyes still fixed on his laptop.
"It's about the girl you asked me to look into, I have found her and you wouldn't believe who she turned out to be." He said in ecstasy.
"Who is she and what does she do?" He asked looking away from what seemed like an important work to him few minutes ago.
"Her name is Melissa McCarthy, does that name ring a bell?" He asked in his usual cheerful voice.
"Does this all look like a joke to you and since when did we get that close?" Alex snapped.
"I'm sorry sir."He quickly apologized.
"Mr McCarthy is a famous billionaire as well, he has fashion houses and his boutiques are in every corner of our country here, he sells trendy clothes and he's successful all on his own. I'm sure you have met him during those business parties..."
"Did you make your investigation on the father or the daughter?" He asked curtly.
"No sir."
"Miss Melissa McCarthy is his daughter and she is the girl you have been searching for."He said with confidence.
"How sure are you?"
"I'm very sure sir,we searched everywhere based on your description and to confirm that she is the same girl you have been searching for, she was at the same spot that fateful day, so I'm confident she is the one."
If Melissa was the one who saved his life back then, he was glad that she was alive and well but there was still something confusing about this and he can understand if only she explain things personally to him.
But first he had to fulfill the promise he made to himself, he had to get married to the girl who saved him, the one he had been keeping his heart for all this while.
He was alive all thanks to her and to repay her good deeds, he had to get married to her by all cost cause no other woman would ever win his heart the way she did.
"What do I do after this sir?" Dan asked snapping him from his thoughts.
"Since her father is in the same caliber as I am, send a marriage proposal to the family and choose this weekend as our wedding day."
"Sir..." Dan said cutting in.
"Do you have a problem with my orders?" He asked glaring at him.
"No sir, I just need to be sure if I heard you right." He said.
"Find a vacant court room and free time, fix our wedding then and add the venue to the proposal letter, let me know when it gets to them and what they say about it." He ordered.
"Yes sir,I will do as you have ordered." He said trying to walk away.
"One more thing."Alex said driving himself towards him.
"Do it in secret, I don't want my uncle finding out about this secret of ours else you won't live to see the next Christmas." He threatened.
"I understand.. sir."He stuttered before walking away.
Finally he got the woman he had been searching for, that is the best news he had heard since his parents death.
The door opened almost immediately revealing a man in his fifties accompanied with a young man who was almost the same age as Alex.
"The scared ant has decided to crawl out of his hidden house."Jake said with a mocking smile as he made his way towards Alex.
"Why are you both here?"He asked fisting his hands in anger.
"You shouldn't do that to your own relatives, don't forget we are the only families you have left." Jake taunted obviously trying to get him angry.
"How..how dare you call yourself family?" He asked shaking in anger.
"You should be glad I still refer to you as a family despite the pitiful condition you are in. You should be glad you have two able men like I and my father but here you are feeling so full of yourself as you have always been what a pity."
"Stop that Jake, you shouldn't upset him,you know it's bad for his health. "Simpson said walking close to the two young men slowly.
"Why are you stopping him, aren't you here to do the same?" Alex asked snapping at him.
"I have grown past that Alex, you should know that yourself and moreover, I'm glad to see that you still have the same reaction you always do since you had this accident." He said leaning close to him.
"And it annoys me to see you breathing on the surface of the earth each time you show that ugly face of yours around me." He said spitefully making Simpson smile faintly.
"There's nothing you can do about my face son and I will be breathing for as long as I want to,so get used to it." He said standing straight.
"We saw your assistant running around when he is meant to be by your side, what's the occasion?"Jake asked walking to his table.
The file Dan left with him on Melissa was still there and he didn't want anyone to see that especially the two serpents in his office.
"What do you think you are doing?" He asked driving himself to the table and snapped the file out of his hand.
"What do you have in there? It looks like a top notch secret."Jake said looking interested.
"Whatever I do is none of your business."
"We are still your family young man!"
"And you are nothing but a murderer!" He snapped.
Lauren’s heart pounded as she sped through road, Priya’s words—“Alex needs you urgently!”—a relentless drumbeat in her mind. The cemetery’s pain, Tom’s funeral, Helen’s venomous accusations—slut, liar, cheat—and the strange pregnant woman’s haunting gaze clung to her like a shadow. “Alex, what’s wrong?” she whispered, her voice raw, guilt over Tom’s death and their forbidden kiss a searing wound. “I can’t lose you too.” Her hands gripped the wheel, her baby’s kick a faint spark. She screeched into the hospital lot, her sob choking her as she sprinted inside, her heels clicking on the sterile floor. Nurses glanced up, their eyes wide, but Lauren ignored them, her voice a desperate cry. “Alex Magnus’s room—where is he?” A nurse pointed, her voice soft. “Room 312, Ms. Lauren.” Lauren’s tears fell, her heart racing as she stumbled down the hall. “Please, be okay,” she murmured, her hands trembling, the brooch in her pocket a silent reminder of her fight, her loss. She burst into Alex’s
Lauren stood in her penthouse, the black silk dress clinging to her small trembling frame, her reflection in the mirror a ghost of the woman she’d been. Tom’s funeral loomed, a final wound to her already shattered heart. Her fingers clutched the emerald pendant, her mother’s gift, as tears streamed down her face, the weight pressing down on her. She couldn't believe how she had lost two important people within six months. “Tom, how do I say goodbye?” she whispered, her voice raw. The forbidden kiss with Alex a poison in her soul. The guilt was too much. She had betrayed Tom in many ways, her heart betraying her. “I failed you, my love.”Priya knocked, her voice soft but urgent. “Lauren, it’s time. The car’s waiting.” Her eyes, red from crying, met Lauren’s, her hand reaching out. “You don’t have to do this alone.”Lauren’s sob tore free, her body shaking. “I can’t, Priya! I can’t face him… not like this!” She collapsed onto the velvet couch, tears soaking her dress, her hands clawing
Lauren’s scream ripped through Alex’s hospital room, her world imploding as Priya’s words—“Tom’s gone. He didn’t make it”—struck like a blade. Her knees buckled, her hands clawing the air, tears flooding her face. “No, no, NO!” she wailed, her voice raw, shattering the sterile silence. Alex’s arms reached for her, his face pale, but she stumbled back, her sob choking her. “Tom, my Tom!” Guilt crashed over her, the forbidden kiss with Alex a brand on her soul. “I killed him!” she screamed, her heart a bleeding wound, Priya’s tear-streaked face blurring before her.“Lauren, we have to go to him!” Priya cried, grabbing her arm, her voice trembling. “Come on, now!” But Lauren’s legs felt like lead, stuck to the ground, her body shaking, her emerald coat drenched in tears. “He’s dead, Priya!” she sobbed, her voice a broken wail. “Because of me! Because I brought this war, Melissa, Dan, all of it!” She clutched her belly, her baby’s kick a cruel pulse amidst her grief.Priya pulled her,
Lauren’s scream echoed through Langston & Associates. The sealed envelope from Victor Langston slipped from her trembling fingers, the gold brooch still warm in her pocket, her victory as the Langston heir feeling like her failure. Tears streamed down her face, her voice raw. “No, Tom, no!” She sprinted out, shoving past stunned lawyers, her emerald coat flaring, the weight of Melissa’s arrest and Margaret’s justice fading. “I’m coming, Tom!” she sobbed, her heart pounding, guilt clawing her.She looked at Priya, her voice shaking as she jumped into her car. “Priya, what happened? Lauren’s scream tore through the farmhouse, her phone glaring 10:00 a.m., the Langston vote’s start. The gold brooch, engraved with “V. Langston,” burned in her hand, her mother’s sacrifice pulsing through her. “No, I won’t lose!” she cried, tears streaming, her heart pounding with Tom’s lifeless face, Alex’s pained eyes, and Melissa’s venomous smirk. She grabbed her keys, and dialed Priya’s number, her voice raw with emotions she couldn't hide. “Priya, I’ve got Victor’s brooch—proof I’m the heir! Stall the vote, I’m coming!”Priya’s voice crackled, frantic. “Lauren, Melissa’s winning! She’s got forged papers, swaying the lawyers! I’m trying, but you have to hurry!” Her tone softened, desperate. “Remembrer your baby, the abruption— please be careful!”Lauren’s tears fell, her hand clutching her belly, the baby’s kick a faint spark. “I’m fine, Priya! This is for Mom, for Tom, for justice!” Her voice broke, guilt choking her. “Tom’s dying because of me. I won’t let Melissa take everyth
Lauren’s heart thundered, the diary trembling in her hands as the farmhouse door rattled, but there was no one there. The yard was empty, only the sound of birds dingjg could be heard. Her tears fell, Margaret’s pain bleeding through the pages, Evelyn Langston’s card a chilling clue. “Mom, what did she do to you?” she whispered, her voice raw, her baby’s kick urging her on. She opened the diary, her fingers shaking, needing to know, to find the letter that could crush Melissa and the McCarthys.June 16, 1985I cried until dawn, Evelyn’s card burning in my hand. Victor’s wife, offering “help” for my baby—our baby. I don’t want to lose you, little one, but I’m alone, broke, my heart in pieces. Victor’s silence is a betrayal I can’t bear it. I don't want to bring you into a life that I hate myself. I don't want to see you suffer like I did. I love you too much to do that. I called the number, my voice shaking. A man answered, smooth, confident—Mr. McCarthy. He invited me to dinner, said
