Jules parked a few cars away, dark shades on, windows drawn up, hands on the steering wheel as she watched the entrance of the bar whose parking lot she was parked in, waiting.

Her eyes were on the door of the building—dumpy, loud, pulsing with bad music and worse decisions. And laughter erupted from within from time to time.

A couple of people stumbled out, a man holding a woman, both clearly drunk but seemed like they were just settling out their differences.

Jules took her eyes off them and turned back to the entrance.

Whatever they were doing was none of her business. She wasn't there for them and, most importantly, she didn't want to be seen in such a place.

The sun had just set when she got off work, but now it was darker, as she'd been following her target ever since, till they stopped at this bar. Now she was getting tired of this half-baked spy operation as it seemed they weren't planning to come out.

Finally, the door swung open, and a figure hurried out, his eyes forward w

Ethan twirled a pen between his fingers, staring straight at nothing without blinking. He wasn't dumb. Something was definitely up with Jules, and she was keeping it from him.It was either something that had happened that previous day or something else entirely. Either way, it's been bugging him. And if he knew Jules, there was little to no chance of finding out what she was hiding from her.And these days he could tell she went out more than she went to work. And she knew he wouldn't confront her because of the grudge she still held against him.‘She might be out there fucking another man, you know.’ “She won't dare." He murmured under his breath.‘She’s friends with Cassie. Don't underestimate her.’The pen snapped in two, and he slammed it on the table. “Cassie." He muttered, his voice low. The girl annoyed the shit out of him. She was lawless and rude and such a slut, but he knew there was no way he'd keep Jules from being friends with her.And now she'd sucked Colton in with h

Nolan pushed the door open and paused, scanning the restaurant for the jet-black hair he could never miss.He squinted a little, his head moving even slower, and he was so concentrated that the greeting of a short waitress sounded more like a squeak as she passed by.Then finally, he spotted the hair buried in a phone's screen. His shoulders relaxed, and he stepped away from the door, walking towards the table. He slid into the chair opposite the man. “Hey man." Kai looked up from his phone, a smile creeping to his lips as he shook Nolan's hand. “Welcome back! Feels good, right?”Nolan clicked his teeth. "No, not really." He replied, his eyes sweeping across the room. This was the first restaurant he'd ever walked into when he'd become an adult and just freshly inherited his father's empire. He could remember walking in here to hide from his father's board of directors when they'd called for a meeting for the fourth time that week. The new status had been so heavy on his neck that he

Jules closed the door behind her and leaned against it, her eyes dropping to nothing in particular. She'd completely forgotten that she'd gotten off pills and had none at home. Maybe that was why it hadn't crossed her mind the moment she got home yesterday.Anyone who'd seen her after Cassie cut the call, they'd have known something was up because her face had gone whiter than the rest of her body. But there was no way she was ditching work once again. And she didn't want to reschedule the meeting just after Zee had convinced the manager of the company she was supposed to meet with.It was later, after handling some more work, she stopped at a pharmacy and bought some medication. Then downed it with some warm coffee. Now she felt tired and a little shaken and the silence in the house didn't help as both Asher and Nancy were in some apartment with her mom.“Welcome, ma'am." The chef greeted as soon as she passed the dining room which was set for two.Jules tilted her head and frowned a

Jules pushed open the front door and slipped quietly through the lobby, her heels clicking softly against the tiles.“Good day, ma'am," the front desk lady greeted, and Jules just waved and kept on walking. But she could still feel the lady's gaze behind her—she could feel everyone's eyes on her.Or was it just in her head?‘Feeling guilty, slut?’ ‘Of course not.’ She whispered back as she got onto the elevator, clutching her handbag tightly. She felt no ounce of guilt if she was being honest with herself, no matter how hard she tried to fight it.Instead, she felt relieved and embraced the light feeling the orgasm had brought her. And she knew it wasn't just because it was Nolan. Before she'd gotten on top of Nolan, her heart was heavy, her mind was restless and she was holding her breath waiting for the chance to breathe. And that was what having sex with Nolan had brought. And she loved it even though she'd been forcing herself to look into Ethan's eyes.He couldn't make her feel

Nolan tapped his foot lightly on the brake pedal, his eyes occasionally darting to the rearview mirror. It's been two days since he’d confirmed Evie was missing, and he’d been everywhere—calling in favors, chasing leads, clinging to the hope that he could still fix this. The night Maggie had come over, he’d jumped in his car and driven aimlessly around the city, convincing himself he was in control. He hadn’t stopped until a patrol officer pulled him over and wouldn’t let him go until he produced his ID. Now he was parked in the lot of an old restaurant that people nearly didn't patronize anymore, expecting the only person he could think of after leaving the station. He was losing patience by the second, especially as his guest had warned him to stay off alcohol, despite the tempting force pushing him to walk into the building and order something dusty and forgotten was nearly unbearable. The time on his phone read minutes past the time agreed and he took deep breaths tryi

“Hi hi, you've reached Evie Quinn. Please drop a message after the beep or even better, how much you—”Nolan sighed and turned it off as he'd listened to that voicemail for an unhealthy number of times that he could still hear and recite it even without it being played. It was dark outside as he drove back home from work. These days he didn't want the services of a driver because he really wanted to be with his thoughts without some annoying employee saying: sir this, sir that.Especially since he and Evie had that argument and she'd run off to Maggie's house and he'd been ignoring his callsHonestly, it was selfish of him postponing the wedding instead of him just coming out with it that he was no longer interested in her. But he just couldn't bring himself to say the words. And he didn't know why.One minute she's all smug and pretty and loveable. The next moment she's seeking ways to claw out his eyes.Yes, that's how relationships work, but it was different when it was Jules. Not
