Before I could finish, the guy snatched my phone and smashed it against the floor.

"Who do you think you're fooling, pretending to be the boss's daughter?" he snapped. "Take a good look in the mirror before you team up with your old man to smear Violet!"

I stared at him like he was an idiot. Talking to him felt pointless. I picked up my phone and called security, telling the head to come remove him.

A message from my father popped up.

[Don't go spreading nonsense. You're my only child, and your mom's the only woman I've ever had!]

I let out a sigh of relief.

My father was famous for being completely devoted to my mother. If she so much as sighed, he would act like he had committed a crime.

So this "Violet Neel" was obviously a fake.

"Are you still not leaving?" I said, looking at the man. "You really want security to drag you out?"

He just smirked at me, completely unfazed, and spat on the floor.

A moment later, security showed up.

I explained what happened to the head of security. He looked at the guy, then at me, and hesitated.

"Ms. Franklin, maybe you could switch to a different office."

The man burst out laughing, kicked his feet up onto the desk my father had carefully picked out for me, and started shaking his leg like he owned the place.

"Call whoever you want. Even the cops won't matter. On Neel Corporation turf, everything goes through Violet."

The head of security leaned in and lowered his voice.

"Jim here is just an intern, but his girlfriend, Violet, is the chairman's daughter. Word is Mr. Neel is planning to hand the company over to her soon. We can't afford to cross someone like that.

"This office is right next to Ms. Neel's. Please don't make this harder for us. Just take another room."

I laughed, but there was no humor in it.

A fake heiress like her really thought she was running the place.

I grabbed Jim Kirk's bag and tossed it onto the floor, then kicked the wheel of the chair. He tipped over backward, sprawled out flat.

"I'm not switching," I said coldly. "If anyone's moving, have Violet come ask me herself. A kept man like you doesn't get to talk to me."

The entire floor went dead silent.

"A new hire actually going against Ms. Neel?"

"She's out of her mind. Doesn't she know Jim is Violet's favorite?"

Jim scrambled to his feet, his expression turning vicious. He waved at the guards, and they grabbed my arms, pinning them behind me. Then he took my hair and used it to wipe off his designer bag.

"You knocking me over is one thing, but throwing my bag is crossing a line. If there's even a scratch on it, you're paying for it with your life. It's time you learned your place. Don't mess with people you can't afford to mess with."

They shoved me out of the office.

People around me snickered, saying I had brought it on myself for picking a fight with Jim.

I swept my gaze across them, cold and sharp. No wonder my father had rushed me back. The place had turned into a complete mess.

I stepped forward and drove my foot straight between Jim's legs.

He doubled over instantly.

"Looking down on people, huh? Forget kicking you out of the office. Even if I threw you out of Neel Corporation entirely, Violet wouldn't dare say a word," I sneered.

"Oh, really?"

A woman's voice cut in from behind me, edged with anger.

The crowd parted immediately, heads bowing as they greeted her.

"Ms. Neel!"

Worried someone might actually get killed, I stepped in and shut the whole thing down. Violet had none of that earlier arrogance left. She burst into tears and lunged at Jim, clawing at him."Jim, how can you be this heartless? I might not be the Neel Corporation heiress, but every dollar I spent on you was real money. That custom suit you're wearing, your designer shoes, your watch, I bought them all! Those two bags alone just now cost over 700 grand. That's money my parents saved their whole lives. My mom still needs it for her hospital bills. Give it back to me!"Jim shoved her off hard, covering his nose in disgust."Please! Did I force you to buy any of that? You offered it yourself, and now you want it back? Keep your dirty hands off me. Touch me again, and I'll sue you for emotional and physical damages."People around them started frowning at that, but Jim only got more smug. He jogged over to me like he was looking for credit."Ms. Franklin, I just lost my way for a bit

I made a bit of small talk, then hung up the call while Violet stared at me like she was about to fall apart."You all heard that, right?" I said calmly. "The man on the phone is Violet's real father. He's also my family's driver."She moved into my house right after graduating college. My dad personally brought her into the company. While I was overseas living in a rented apartment, she was staying in my family's villa. While I was taking the subway to work, she was riding around in my dad's car."I looked straight at her."Violet, this is the unfairness you're talking about? If your dad wasn't working for the Neels, you wouldn't have even gotten an interview. The Neels gave you a chance, and you turned around and tried to take my place as the heiress. That's how you repay people?"Anger started rippling through the crowd."My parents make five grand a month, and I never complained," someone said. "Her family's pulling in twenty thousand a month, and she's still playing the vi

The room went quiet again.Just like that, Violet had flipped the situation, making it about class and unfairness. Some people started thinking. Others looked like they saw themselves in her.And somehow, I became the face of everything they hated.I clicked my tongue."Violet, enough," I said. "Do you really want me to lay everything out?"Her arms hung limply at her sides. Tears filled her eyes as she forced a weak smile at me."Riley, you don't have to threaten me anymore," she said softly. "I'll give up everything I worked for and leave Neel Corporation. Isn't that what you want?"I rolled my eyes.Of course, I wanted her gone. What, was I supposed to leave instead? But I had underestimated just how powerful that innocent act could be. A few people rushed forward, grabbing her before she could walk away."You can't choose where you come from, but you can choose your life. I'm sure Ms. Franklin would be willing to give you another chance.""Ms. Franklin, she's just been

Violet swayed, and she caught herself on the edge of the table to stay upright. Her voice came out rough as she forced the words out."Even if Mr. Neel really bought it, who would just leave something that valuable sitting on a desk? Riley, don't think you can trick me with a fake!"Piers let out a cold laugh. "Figures. Someone dealing in fakes wouldn't recognize the real thing.""Exactly!" Jim jumped in, eager to pile on. "Not everyone's like you, faking everything from your identity to your bags."The more he talked, the worse Violet looked.I watched Violet quietly, satisfied, then cleared my throat."Fine," I said lightly. "Pay me ten dollars for now. Once I get an official appraisal, we'll settle the rest."With just a glance from me, someone pushed the card reader right in front of Violet. Her hand shook as she picked up the black card again and swiped it.The result was the same. Transaction failed. She looked up helplessly at Jim, but he was already standing at my sid

The store manager, Lewis Gibson, walked in with a line of staff behind him. Each of them carried a bag. They were all the latest styles, made from rare leather, limited editions, and top sellers, ten in total. With a small gesture from Lewis, the team moved in sync, quickly setting up the seating area with a coffee table, chairs, coffee, and neatly arranged snacks.Once I sat down, he stepped forward respectfully."Ms. Franklin, these are the finest pieces currently available in all of Silverport. Please take your time and inspect them."Something seemed to click for Violet. Panic flashed across her face as she rushed toward me."If this was all a misunderstanding, then there's no need to replace the bag," she said quickly.I glanced at Jim, whose eyes were practically glowing."That won't work," I said lightly. "We agreed on ten. Right, Jim?"Low murmurs spread through the crowd."She's serious? Damn! The intern actually hit the jackpot.""Any one of those bags could buy a

The room went dead quiet.People instinctively stepped aside, clearing a path. Even Violet stood up straight from her chair."Piers, perfect timing!" Jim hurried over, eager to take credit. "There's a fraud here pretending to be the chairman's daughter. I was just about to have her removed."Piers didn't even glance at him.He walked straight to me, took off his jacket, and draped it over my shoulders. There was guilt written all over his face."Sorry, I'm late."For someone as decisive and hard as Piers, that kind of tone was rare.A dozen looks flickered between us, full of speculation.Violet's voice turned sharp, laced with sarcasm."Piers, even if she's with you, anyone joining Neel Corporation still has to go through proper hiring procedures. As head of HR, I have the authority to suspend her position. I'm sure you don't have a problem with that."The corner of my mouth lifted slightly. These two idiots picked a fight with the wrong person and still thought I was just
