"Thank you for coming back alive." He whispered, breathing hard like he had run a marathon.

I arched my brow.

"I was scared. That you wouldn't survive the attack and was worried that there was nothing I could do to help you in my state." He stated honestly.

"Were you scared you were going to die too?" I teased, making light of the matter.

"Anyways. I'm glad you are safe. How did you manage to escape the beast?" He asked, intrigued. But I ignored him instead and walked into the compound.

He took the catch with him and the calf was on the large table Authur used to dissect his catch.

"Pretty smart of you to take the catch with you." I remarked and he nodded with pride.

"It's the least I could do." He said with a shrug.

"Is my dad back yet?"

"I don't think so."

"I guess we will have to take the calf off the trap." I walked to the animal who was now too weak to struggle. It sat there and let the trap hold it as tight as it would.

"Even the calf is so big." Frost commended the size of the

My heart pounded loudly against my chest, the mate bond that I'd tried so hard to ignore humming beneath my veins with increasing frequency.I swallowed. “Then what do you mean?”Thane didn't look away. “I know it's not my place, but I know you well enough. I can see beyond the smile on your face, I can see the hollowness in your eyes. I can feel that you're not okay.”A snort escaped my lips, the sound totally out of place. I tore my eyes away from him, refusing to get lost in those brown orbs.“If you're talking about Luca’s betrayal, then I promise it didn't cut that deep.” I said, a lie. “It isn't the first time I've been betrayed after all.”His body tensed underneath my touch. I refused to look at him.“Yet you look like you're drowning in your own mind.” He stated.I stopped for a bit. How could he still read me so easily? Like months upon months of distance and betrayal hadn't torn us apart. But he was right. I was drowning in my own mind.I heaved. “I couldn't save her.”“You

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 70: LOVE AND LOSS

MIRA'S POVThe rain poured, heavily and unrelentlessly, like it was washing the pack of the final stains of impurities. It had been two days, two days of getting used to peace after being tormented for months. I myself, found it strange sleeping on a proper bed, and eating proper meal. I had gotten so used to being on the run, living in the forest like some new generation Tarzan.Despite all of this, I was more than grateful. There was still an ache in my chest, but there was no better way this could have gone. Alexa was defeated, and I now knew who I could trust and who I couldn't. It was a painful relief. On the third day, the sky finally cleared and the sun broke out. Children ran to the still wet grass, yelling excitedly like we weren't the same ones fighting for our lives a few days back.I couldn't help but smile.Everything had worked out for good in the end.“Miss Mira, you called for us.” A voice interrupted my reverie.I turned to the older woman, accompanied by a much young

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 69: ALEXA IS GONE!

“Mira!”The shout pulled her back from the vision with a violent jolt. Her eyes snapped open, the sight of the war unfolding not welcoming at all. Fire blazed across the field, the air thick with smoke and blood. The sound of clashing steel roared in her ears.Mira gasped, realizing she was still standing, the seal glowing faintly against her skin. Thane was in front of her, his body shielding her from an incoming strike. He grunted as he swung his blade, cleaving a shadow warrior in half.“You’re back,” he breathed, voice rough but relieved.Mira stared at him, and it clicked.Asides the humming of the seal in her veins, she could feel a familiar warmth soaring across her chest. Her eyes met Thane's, and it felt like the world slowed down. The warmth in her chest blended into an ache, a shiver running down her spine as the connection ran through them.“Do you feel that?” She mumbled.Thane blinked. “It's the mate bond.”“It’s still alive. Who would have thought you were what I needed

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 68: I AM AURORA!

Chaos!Buildings were on fire, arrows decorated the air, bodies were everywhere, war cries and horrified screams sounded like a trumpet from the sky.Shadow warriors swarmed the clearing like a tide of darkness, featureless beings that shimmered like oil under moonlight, striking with unnatural speed.“Hold your positions!” Thane’s voice boomed across the chaos. He was in his wolf form, massive, silver-black, claws dripping with blood. He tore through a cluster of shadows, his growl shaking the ground. “Don’t give them an inch!”But they were giving plenty. The enemy’s advance was relentless, and they were barely enough to defend themselves, talk little of actually defeating them.Alexa stood on the ridge, calm and composed, her dark robes flowing like smoke around her. Magic pulsed from her hands, tendrils of violet light that twisted into fresh shadow beasts.Luca stood beside her. His eyes cold and unreadable. His aura was commanding, completely unrecognizable. He moved like a gene

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 67: THE PACK NEEDS YOU!

The murmurs in the training yard died instantly.“Who’s coming?” Thane asked, though a part of him already knew.Damon met his gaze, eyes wide with terror. “Alexa. She’s not alone this time. She has soldiers. Hundreds of them, and those shadows too.”Fred added, “And Luca’s with her.”For a moment, the world seemed to tilt. The faint hum of hope that had begun to fill the pack turned cold, strangled by the weight of that name.Thane’s jaw tightened. “How far?”“They’ll reach the borders before sundown,” Damon said. “Their banners already cover the eastern ridge.”Silence swept across the courtyard, the kind that sinks into one's bone.Thane’s voice dropped low, controlled but burning. “Call the elders. Sound the alarm. Get every able wolf armed and ready. No one steps outside the barrier until I say so.”“Yes, Alpha.”He exhaled, willing himself to remain calm. “Get me an envelope. We'll need all the help we can get.”•••An extra week later and Mira was a tiny fraction better than sh

  • Crowned In Vengeance   Chapter 66: WILL YOU PROTECT US?

The effect of his words were instantly visible. Loud whispers rose, questioning glances thrown his way, but despite all of this, it was obvious the relief the news had brought on everyone standing there.“My people,” Thane began, his voice steady, though his heart felt anything but. “I won’t stand here and pretend that words can erase what has happened. I failed you.”A murmur rippled through the crowd, but Thane pressed on. “I failed to protect our lands, our families, and the trust you placed in me. While Alexa ruled among us, I watched our strength crumble, and I did not act soon enough. Too many of our brothers and sisters paid the price for my hesitation.”He paused, letting the weight of his own words sink in. “Alexa is gone now. I can’t bring them back. I can’t undo the pain that’s been caused, but I can promise you this, our pack will rise again. We will rise better than we used to be, stronger and wiser.”Some of the wolves began to lift their heads. Others looked away, tears
