“Wait wait ,wait, wait....wait! Your brother? Jace Leister, the grumpy is soon to be the vampire king?” Eve asked again with full attention. She seemed more curious in knowing about him than I was.
“Yeah. But it’s a little complicated. He doesn’t like when I talk about this stuff. I mean whenever I talk about him.”
“Well, that’s what big brothers are usually like, I guess,” Eve replied and I just sat there listening to them gossip.
“Ouch.” I wince in pain again as I look down at my arm. It was growing deep purple.
“What the hell?” I murmur to myself, still gaining the girls’s attention.
“Woah, Hailey! Are you okay? How did your arm get scraped up like that?” June asked.
And I only stare at them blindly. Because I didn’t know how I got this scar too.
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t know?” Eve questions. She looks at June, then at me, all confused.
“Look, all I know is, I got this scar or whatever when I was a kid. I fell off a small cliff or something..I don’t know. My parents never told me the whole reason.”
“Can I..see?” June asks politely as I show her my scar.
She touches my skin softly, and weirdly, my pain starts to fade away.
“How did you say you got this..injury?” June questioned.
“I may have fallen off a cliff...why?”
“Hailey, this isn’t from falling off a cliff. These are ripped bite marks. Marks from a vampire.”
“What did you just say?” I ask her again, my eyes all wide because hell no. That couldn’t have happened. My pack always stayed aloof from vampires. We always minded our business.
“Yeah. It seems like a vampire bit you, and to free yourself from the pain, you tried shoving him away but because the ‘vampire’s teeth’ were stuck in the holes, the aggression or some force, made your skin slice off. Almost like a cut from a blade.”
“How can you be so sure about that?” Eve questioned.
“I can sense it. Not only that. I can almost sense the person who...”
“Who?” The pause made it more dramatic and curious. I needed to know what was the reason behind this shitty ass injury. And finally, I was about to get it...But..
--Knock knock--
The door got knocked and before any of us could answer, we saw a small piece of paper being slid down from beneath the door.
“What is that?” Eve asked as she made her way towards the paper. She picks it up and her face brightens like fire.
“Ooooh...yes!”
“What?” I ask as she begins to jump up and down.
“Eve, you’re going to wake the other kids. Stop it!”
“Oh, they’re already awake, as they’re all at the welcoming party!”
“The welcoming party?” I implore. “What is that?”
“Don’t you know? It’s a party organised by our seniors, especially for us newbies. Come on, let’s go!”
“Well, I don’t know about you, but I do want to meet some fresh...faces.” June teases us as they both finally stare at me.
“Oh. No, no, no. Parties are..No. I’m simply not a celebrating...type of person. So..”
“Oh, come on, Hailey! You have to! We may make some new friends, who knows?
“I..”
“Please, Hailey?” Eve and June torture me with their puppy, wide eyes. I knew what they were doing, and I’m not ashamed to say it. I kinda liked it and fell for this trap within seconds.
“Fine, but not for long.”
“Yes!” Eve screamed as she half-hugged June in excitement, catching her off guard. And almost falling.
“Alright, let’s go,” June exclaims.
We all walked out of the dorm, locked it and made our way to the party. I gotta say. When my parents first told me about this place, I said no immediately. But after my Dad sat down and talked to me for hours, trying to get me to say yes.
I’m now glad that I did.
I never thought I’d be getting fond of a crowd like this. We werewolves always stick to our pack. We meddle in our own business and we fight for our own people. This place was a whole new world for me.
It was like getting out of my own cacoon. It was beautiful.
We reach the party venue. The party was such a blast. The place was filled with juniors and seniors. Some were enjoying it so much that were making out within seconds of talking.
Not a single person here judged the other. Well, I’m glad they don’t. It’s not like I’d find everyone here like Jace.
Speaking of him, why hasn’t he come here? I mean, I know he’s a senior, but it’s not like there aren’t any seniors here. Without realising it, I found myself looking for Jace. I wasn’t sure why would I look for such a grudging guy who I just met for like, 25 seconds, but I was.
“Hey?” June calls out to me through the noise of the music.
“Y-yeah, sorry.”
“What do you want to drink?”
“Oh, no. I don’t drink, June. I’ll just take a glass of water.”
“Come on, don’t be a party buster...here.” June hands me a glass of transparent liquid, water-like substance. I smell it accidentally and my whole body goes electrified and irritating.
“What is this?”
“It’s vodka, try it.”
I eyed her and was a little hesitant at first, but what the hell. You only live fucking ones. I clipped my nose with my fingers and drank my drink in one sip.
Coughing instantly.
“You really got the beginner’s luck, Hailey,” Eve teases me as she sips her drink herself. After a few more shots, I find myself swaying with the music. My body loosened up. It was like I wasn’t even controlling myself but my body was being controlled by someone else.
The feeling was amazing.
Deep into the night, me, Eve and June started dancing and meeting new people. This night sure became the one I know I would never forget.
“I...I gotta go use the bathroom,” I say to Eve, who had no sense of where we were.
“Okay, bring me a cupcake, as well.” I laugh as I pat her shoulder to keep on with her behaviours as I exited the scene.
After a 2-3-minute walk with seemed like hours, I reached our university. Since the corridors had like...50 rooms, I found it really hard to search where the bathroom was.
Eventually, I figured I was lost.
“Okay, this is literally not the good time to get kidnapped, Hailey. Focus.” I gained 20% of my consciousness as I continued my search.
But..no luck.
“Ahh,” I looked down at my arm and it was again turned purple/blue. “Why the hell are you burning up now??!” I wince in pain as it grew stronger.
Suddenly, my vision went blurry and my eyes were forced closed.
“N-No..H-help.”
I drop down on the ground as I tried moving my muscles..I had no absolute luck.
“Help..me,” I call out to someone as my body starts to lose its control...when finally...I see a dark figure walking towards me.
My stomach got filled with chills and I pulled my hands up in protection but my vision went completely..
Dark.
--I try to open my eyes. Everything was still a lot dizzy. My head was bursting into flames as I felt myself lying. I finally manage to open my eyes as I figure I was back at my dorm, on my bed.“W-what the?!” My room’s lights were off. But I could still feel someone else’s presence with me. It was a familiar one.I look over at Eve’s side and see someone sitting on her bed in the dark.“Who are you?” I quickly get up and pick up my night lamp, aiming at the dark shadow.“You know you shouldn’t drink that much like that. Especially when you don’t know or can’t trust the surrounding people. This world can simply eat someone like you alive.”The person’s voice was growling deep. So deep that it made me shiver to my bitter core. I was instantly terrified by this energy but at the same time. I wanted to know who this person was.“Says the one who’s hiding in the shadows himself,”I could hear a small chuckle and a smirk. The person gets up and finally comes into the light.“You?” It was
“No...No- NO!”“Hey...Hailey..Hailey?!”I open my eyes and find Eve right next to me, trying to wake me up.“It’s okay, it’s okay. I’m here.” She says, repeatedly.“Wh-what happened?” I ask her as she reacted doubtfully.“You were having a nightmare, Hailey. You were screaming in your sleep. Shivering, sweating. It took me 5 minutes to wake you up. What was happening?”“What? 5 minutes?” I ask her again because this has never happened before. I would wake up within seconds whenever I had a nightmare and someone wake me up.“I..I don’t know, Eve. I’m sorry, I woke you up.”“It’s alright. But are you sure you’re okay?”I turn my face to her and smile weakly. “Don’t worry, Eve. I’m fine. We should get back to sleep. It’s late.”“Alright. Let me know if something else happens, okay?”I nodded as she made her way back to her bed and fell asleep. For another 2 hours or so, I wasn’t able to shut my eyes. My head kept paining and my eyes burned even when they were closed.I don’t know if it’s
I get confused and silent. My body couldn’t move, but all my senses were heightened. I got lost in Jace’s eyes. It didn’t matter how harshly he acted out at first. It felt as if he was manipulating or enforcing me into feelings I’ve never felt before.Let alone for a...vampire.“Hey, Hailey? You ready to go?” Eve walks up to me, trying to get a hold of my attention. I knew she was speaking to me, but I failed to reply. She stares in the direction I was staring in and quickly realises what’s happened.“Ah, You Love Jace.” I shook my head, instantly getting out of my fairytale world, and faced her.“I, what?!” My cheeks go red as I try to avoid eye contact. “No, it’s not like that...I..Shut up.”“Hey, I’m not blaming you. He’s charming, He’s tall, handsome, and he treats others well.”“Is that so?” I scoff at this point as we make our way out of the classroom.“What, it’s true.”“What’s true?” June joins us too as she listens to us talking about her brother.“That your brother is charmi
“What the hell are you talking about? I still don’t know or recall who you are and you’re saying I’m your future wife? I’m only 18 and if you were that close to me, how come I don’t remember you?!”Valentine smiled and took a step forward towards me. He looked straight into my eyes as I got hypnotised.“Because of this, My Love. You were taken away from me.”And suddenly, the destination around us changed. We were in a secluded forest now. The one I could recall perfectly. It was our forest. Where my clan lived.“Why did you bring me here?” I ask Valentine. It was like a projection, only we were the projectors. We could see people walking or doing their work around us, but they didn’t have a single clue we were watching them. And before anything else, I see myself. Playing, chasing a small butterfly.“This is where it all started, Hailey. This is where you first saw me.”We follow the small me, deep into the forest. I was so clumsy, that I fell on the ground various times but still go
“I...” I fall to the ground. What the hell did I just witness? It’s all...surreal. I.. I stared at Valentine, whose emotions were now neutral, but I could clearly see the sadness behind them.“What..happened next?” I ask.Valentine weakly smiled and sat right next to me as we watched the sunset together.“There was a war right after that fight. Your parents still never had a clue about me. Nor the Vampire queen tell anyone. But after that, your father and the Vampire queen, Althea, declared war. Of course, with your father being a simple, innocent man. He never wanted to fight.”“But Althea gave them no choice. She killed lots and lots of werewolves from your pack, Hailey. Many were killed. Men, women, even children. In the end, the witches had to meddle in.”“The balance of our world was at stake. Sure, the wolves had the strength, but with the speed of vampires, it was almost impossible to catch them and..”“So the witches suggested a treaty. A treaty which benefited both the famili
“Eve, please! Only you can help me with this! I have nowhere else to go!”“No, Hailey! You don’t understand! Meddling in the past not only alters what you did back then, but it’ll also affect your future! And I don’t even know what spell we used to go back in time!”“But we don’t have to change anything, Eve. I just need to check something and then we’ll be back!”“You don’t understand, Hailey. Time travel is..it’s risky and highly detectable. Especially in a university like this. We could get caught!”“I..” well, she was right. This was my problem and even if we do get into trouble, she has nothing to do with it. I can’t pull the blame on her even if it’s for the slightest bit.“You’re right, Eve. I’m sorry I asked you something like this..something this crazy. Forget about it. Thanks for trying.”I was about to walk out of our dorm room, but before I could, Eve stops me.“Why do you want to look into your past this badly? I mean. I know there’s a time when none of us remember taking
It was midnight. Eve and I were on our way to the old warehouse. The university used it to keep old materials like magazines, old books, some wooden furniture, etc.Nothing here was of use, and since it was out of the university’s area, it was the best place to try to travel back in time.I still couldn’t believe we were about to do this. I knew all the risks, but I knew if I didn’t do this. My life would be an empty vase. I needed to know who was telling the truth and who was not.I needed to.“You ready?” Eve asked in a tempting voice. She was hella scared. And it was valid for her to be this scared. I can’t thank her enough for doing something like this for me. I owe her my life.“We meet up with Dario, who was with another person who I’d seen on the playground that evening, playing in the field.”“Okay, let’s get this over with,” Dario speaks as he asks me to get into this circle made of white powder.“What is that?” I ask.“Oh, it’s like a protective shield. This way, no one can
“I said..Do you know the consequences?”“H-how did you know my name?” The woman standing right in front of me was a teacher here. I know because I saw her in the auditorium when we were having our welcoming party. She was of average height. She had black/brown hair and her eye colour was hazel brown, or maybe it was. I couldn’t tell, as it was dark around. She had a simple outfit on, like a pant-suit and her hands were...glowing.She had Eve, Max and Dario under her control, so I could clearly realise that she was a witch.“I know a lot of things you don’t, Ms Lockwood. And it seems like I should tell you some of those. One is not to use magic or any of your supernatural abilities without our consent.”“You and your friends broke our first rule we take very seriously. Let’s chit-chat in the principal's office now.”“No, wait!” She turned to walk towards the university, but I stopped her.“Please, don’t. I can come with you to the principal’s office, but please, not them. They didn’t d
