Chapter 3

Author: Reckless Breeze
Luna's POV

I hesitated for a long time before slowly returning to my room while leaning against the wall.

My room was converted from a small storage room. It was vastly different from Stella's room that got plenty of sunlight and lots of plants. I didn't have any windows in my room. I even had trouble turning around because of how cramped it was.

I searched around in the dark for a long time before pulling out a wooden box from under the deepest part of the bed. I fondly ran my fingers across it for a long time before placing it on the bedside table. I then took out my diary and switched on the small night light that Stella had tossed out.

I wrote a few sentences under the dim light. My body seemed to have reached its limit after I was done. Strangely, my stomach had stopped hurting.

I touched my stomach, feeling a little pleased. I silently thanked Mom in my heart. As expected, Mom had been right. I just had to drink some warm water when I was feeling ill to feel better.

Feeling a little sleepy, I tucked myself into bed and wrapped the blanket around myself after yawning a few times. My consciousness began to fade. I wanted to sleep for a little while. I would do the things that I wrote in the diary tomorrow.

I felt like I slept for a long time, but at the same time, I also felt like I had just blinked. My body felt light as if it was going to float above the clouds at any second.

I was a little shocked but also intrigued. I controlled my body, making myself float up and down continuously.

"I can pretend that I'm on a roller-coaster, Mom!" I exclaimed, unable to contain my excitement. "So, this is what it feels like to ride a roller-coaster!"

Mom had bought an annual pass at a nearby amusement park. There was a huge roller-coaster there. Both my classmates and Stella loved it.

Mom took Stella to the amusement park every weekend. I wanted to ride the roller-coaster too, but she never seemed to be able to hear my wish. Although we had visited the amusement park 32 times, I had never ridden the roller-coaster even once.

I had to share the good news with Mom as soon as possible. However, I couldn't be sure if Mom would be able to hear me this time.

My body began to float up uncontrollably the moment the thought took root in my mind. I arrived at a very beautiful place in the blink of an eye. I felt a little scared and wanted to hide, but my eyes lit up in the next second.

I had spotted Mom and Stella. Stella was interacting with a gorgeous mascot, while Mom was smiling and snapping photos of her.

I excitedly floated toward them and waved at Mom. "Look at me, Mom! I've learned how to fly!"

Mom didn't hear me as usual. I didn't find it strange since I had already gotten used to it. She smiled as she scrolled through her photo album.

I floated behind Mom and curiously took a peek. Her photo album was filled with Stella's photos. There were photos of her eating, sleeping, doing her homework, and playing. She looked as beautiful as a princess in the photos that Mom took of her.

I was filled with anticipation as Mom scrolled through her photos, hoping to see a photo of myself. However, I didn't see any. There were 7,321 photos in Mom's album. 7,000 of them were of Stella. The remaining 321 were group photos of Mom and Stella.

My excitement faded as a heavy feeling weighed down my heart. A long moment passed before I bit my lip and carefully said, "You've never taken a photo of me, Mom. Can you take one of me too?"

Mom lifted her phone in the next second.

I was pleasantly surprised that she was actually acquiescing to my request and frantically made myself look presentable. If I had known that Mom would be able to hear me that day, I would have worn the most beautiful dress in my closet.

I had used the money that my elders gave me during New Year to exchange it for a dress that Stella didn't want.

I should have fixed my hair too and worn the pink hair clip. Although Stella had only given it to me after two of the flowers fell off, it was the prettiest hair clip I owned.

I focused on making myself look presentable even as I felt a little vexed. I then fixed a wide smile on my face and held up a silly-looking victory sign.

However, my smile stiffened on my face in the next second.

Luna's POVMom's smile stiffened when I subconsciously floated backward. She sounded a little choked up when she said, "I'm sorry, Luna. I'm so sorry. Please don't hate me."I didn't say a single word."I've learned my lesson, Luna," Mom said in a panic. "I'll never pretend to be deaf again. I let you down in this life. Please be my daughter again in your next life. I promise that I'll always listen to you. Alright?"I didn't know what to say or how to answer her. I didn't want to upset her, but I also didn't want to be her daughter again in my next life.Truth be told, it had been incredibly upsetting whenever I was ignored. When I was younger, I had even thought that I would be better off as an orphan. I wouldn't yearn for Mom's love if I was an orphan. I also wouldn't get upset over her hearing that would occasionally stop working. However, I would think that I was being utterly heartless whenever she cared for me or suddenly showed me her gentle side. She was already going th

Luna's POVI felt a little dazed as I stared at the man who looked a little like me. From the moment I understood what was going on, I knew that Mom hated Dad with every fiber of her being. She hated him so much that she still cursed him out whenever she got drunk, even though they had been divorced for over a decade.I didn't want to upset Mom, so I never asked her anything about Dad. I never would have guessed that I would see him for the first time at my funeral.Mom lost it the moment she saw Dad. She snatched up a shovel and swung it at his head, screaming, "How dare you show your face here, George Woodson? Leave. Leave right now! Don't disturb Luna's rest."Dad's eyes were bloodshot, but they also burned with anger. "Your emotions were so sensitive when you were pregnant with Luna, Laura. You insisted that I had cheated on you, and refused to believe me no matter how I tried to explain myself. You even used Luna to threaten me into agreeing to a divorce."I agreed because I

Luna's POV"Happy birthday, Luna! Mom granted Stella's wish on her birthday. I have a birthday wish too. I want Mom to give me a kiss, but I don't think that she heard me."Happy birthday, Luna! Stella secretly gave me candy today. It was so sweet! I'm going to earn a lot of money when I grow up and buy Stella all the tastiest candy."Happy birthday, Luna! My stomach hurt a lot, too. But Mom and Stella are away on a trip. What should I do? Am I going to die? Will Mom and Stella be sad if I died?"Happy birthday, Luna! I earned 5 dollars and 30 cents today after selling the bottles and scrap that I collected for three months."Stay strong, Luna! You'll earn enough money soon. I'm going to buy Mom a hearing aid so her hearing gets better. I'm also going to buy Stella a pair of earrings from the store. The other female students in her class have them. Stella needs to have them too."My neat handwriting suddenly turned wonky on the last entry. The page was also stained with dried blo

Luna's POVMom was numbly making breakfast in the kitchen.Stella hesitated for a long time before returning to her room and pulling out a pink dress. I recognized that dress. She had to save her New Year money for three years before she was finally able to afford it.Stella stood in front of the mirror after she put it on for the first time. She really looked like the princesses on television.I felt incredibly envious and kept stealing glances at her. When Stella noticed what I was doing, she let out a haughty scoff and said, "Stop looking, Luna. You won't become a princess even if you put this on with that shriveled body of yours. You'll just look like an ugly duckling at most."I foolishly smiled and said, "You're right. You're the most beautiful princess, Stella."Stella scoffed again, but she stopped saying mean things to me.That night, I found a bowl of cherries in my room. I picked up the bowl and washed them before putting one in my mouth. The sweet taste tasted as

  • Cured Mom's Selective Hearing With My Life   Chapter 7

Luna's POVMom was always spending time with Stella, taking her out to play and going on trips with her. Even when she was at home, she spent most of her time in Stella's room.I felt incredibly envious as I watched them, so when it was my birthday, I asked Mom, "Can you sleep with me tonight, Mom? I want to hear you sing a lullaby too. I want you to lull me to sleep just like how you lull Stella to sleep. Is that okay? I've never heard you sing a lullaby for me even though I'm grown up now."Mom was knitting a scarf for Stella at the time. She didn't react at all to my words. I thought that her hearing wasn't working again, so I raised my voice and repeated my requests several times.Mom finally opened her mouth after I repeated myself for the third time. She stared at me with confusion as I looked at her with anticipation welling up in my chest, asking, "What did you say, Luna? My hearing isn't very good. I didn't hear you."I was just about to repeat myself when Stella made a s

Luna's POVMom couldn't say a single word. Both her lips and her hands were trembling. A long time passed before she finally forced a smile on her face, asking, "Are you angry at me for not taking you out, Luna? Is that why you're playing a prank on me?"Silence descended upon the room.My body had turned cold and stiff a long time ago. My chest lay flat and showed no signs of movement.Panic began to color Mom's tone. There was even a hint of pleading mixed in. "I want to apologize to you, Luna. I wronged you in the past. Don't scare me, okay?"Mom finally lost it when I still didn't respond. She hugged my body and let out a loud wail. "Luna! Open your eyes and look at me, Luna…"Stella had jolted awake from the noise. She impatiently ran to my room and snapped, "It's the middle of the night, Mom. Why are you being so noisy?"She noticed my stiff body as Mom was clutching me to her chest the next second. She subconsciously retreated a couple of steps before snapping to her sens
