Writer’s POV

Alec rushed to Ryker’s side as soon as he saw the blood dripping from his arm. The wound looked angry and raw, with dark veins spreading around it like poison through his skin. Ryker was sitting on the edge of his bed, his jaw clenched tight as he tried to stop the bleeding with a torn piece of cloth.

“Let me see that,” Alec said, carefully moving Ryker’s hand away from the wound. His eyes widened when he got a closer look. The cut was deep, but that wasn’t what worried him most. The skin around it was turning black, and he could smell something metallic and bitter.

“This isn’t just a regular blade wound,” Alec said, his voice full of concern. “You’ve been poisoned.”

Ryker looked down at his arm, watching as the dark lines spread further up toward his shoulder. He had felt something was wrong the moment Lucan’s blade had cut him, but he hadn’t wanted to admit it. The pain was getting worse by the minute, and even his enhanced healing wasn’t working.
