I was suddenly all in, listening to “Crazy Daisy,” as most folks called her. But the thing about healers? Sometimes they knew more than the oracles. Oracles spoke to the moon. Healers carried her power.

“Edeline,” Daisy said, her voice low and serious now. “You conceived those pups right as your body was preparing to become the Moon’s warrior. You don’t even know what you’re capable of yet… and because of that, your pups—your twins—were affected.”

My heart started to race. “Wait… you mean—?”

“They’re warriors too,” she said firmly. “They have your power… and when they’re together, it’s amplified. That forcefield wasn’t a fluke. It was them protecting their mother.”

Her face was deadly serious now, all traces of playfulness gone. “They stopped your mate from hurting you.”

I sat there, stunned. “W-what does that mean?”

There was this heavy pause—just long enough to make the room feel thick—before a knock echoed through the front door. Right away, my nose picked it up.
