LOGINConrad.
I exhaled heavily, then drew in the fresh forest breeze again before releasing it the second time.
The meeting with those four Alphas had lasted about forty five minutes. Those were the most tense forty minutes of my life.
Being an Alpha wouldn't be easy. That was certain.
Now, I needed to calm my nerves and that's why I was standing by the edge of a hill, overlooking the thick forest below.
I stretched my arms and legs, ready to jump.
And I did.
Midair, my bones twisted and my skin morphed into fur. My ears elongated and by the time I landed thirty feet below, I was a five feet black wolf.
I howled before dashing into the woods at full speed.
Oh…it felt good…
I weaved through trees and branches, jumped over shrubs and fallen trunks. I knew the forest like the back of my palm. I'd been racing through it since I first shifted at the age of sixteen.
My condition of wolf dormancy-didn't apply to my ability to shift. That's why it's called partial. It only affects some aspects of a werewolf. There was chronic wolf dormancy, which affected a werewolf's entire wolf attributes.
The events of tonight were making me so nervous, just like Clyde said. Shit, I hope I don't flop.
Unlike me, Clyde knew the Alphas I met with. He'd served each of them as a special warrior in their various packs on grandpa's demand as an alliance strategy.
Now according to him, those Alphas owed us great debts.
A loud scream echoed in the forest and I instantly dashed towards my left, rushing through trees and shrubs.
It was like a force had pulled me.
Then I came face to face with a small animal. And a human.
I jumped over the human and hit the animal with my snout, sending it skidding away.
I growled. I hated how these cougars still haven't been taken care of. Grandpa claimed we shouldn't give the humans reasons to be suspicious when the cougars all suddenly disappeared.
In a matter of seconds, I'd shredded the beast apart and I turned around, only for me to see Skylar. She was covered in dirt and bruises.
I transformed and lifted her off the ground.
“What are you doing here?” I asked whilst checking for any fatal wounds on her.
I saw none, thankfully and looked at her face.
My heart skipped, seeing the way she was looking at me. My cock twitched and that was when I remembered I was still naked.
“I…I was looking for you.” She said in the softest voice I've ever heard her speak with.
“Forget it, you need some treatment, you're covered in bruises.” I noted and made my way back to the pack house with Skylar in my arms.
A few minutes later, I was standing at the blind spot of the pack house, where no CCTV cameras or guards could notice us.
“Hang on,” I told Skylar, prompting her to wrap her arms around my shoulder tightly.
I leapt up once, leaving over fifteen feet below me and landed on the ledge of the building. I rounded a corner, still on the ledge before leaping over a balcony.
I slid open the window and walked into my room.
‘Get me a first aid kit.’ I mindlinked a guard as I laid Skylar on my bed.
‘A first aid kit?’ the guard repeated.
‘Now!’
He said nothing after that.
A few minutes later, I was sitting beside Skylar, applying ointment on her bruises.
I'd thrown a robe on by then.
Her eyes remained on me as I rubbed her thigh with the ointment. I could hear her breath waning, the heat was on.
“What were you even doing in the woods?” I asked, finally breaking the tense silence.
Skylar took a moment before responding.
“I told you I was coming to see you.”
“And you couldn't take the normal route?”
“There was a lot of traffic!” She argued.
“You know how dangerous that forest is, even for werewolves.” I scolded, still applying the ointment.
“You don't get to worry about me!” She said.
“Oh yeah? Well, I am!” I countered.
“I'm serious!” She half yelled, sitting up and pulling her leg to herself.
I looked and realised that she was being serious.
I placed the ointment aside, rinsed my hands in a bowl of water and wiped them clean with a towel.
“Tell me, what have I done?” I asked with a calm tone.
“Why didn't you tell me you're an Alpha? You thought maybe I'd force myself on you for money and power, uhn? A golddigger? That's what you thought of me?” She said and I frowned.
“No no, that's not it, you already knew I was wealthy! Come on, Skylar, don't talk like that.” I said, holding her hand.
“Then why? You didn't trust me?” She asked, her voice soft and tender. I've never seen her act this way before.
“It's complicated.” I managed to say, looking away.
Silence stretched for a while between us.
“Conrad,” she purred. “I don't…I don't want it to end.” She said.
“You don't want what to end?” I asked, sitting closer to her, holding her gaze.
“You know…” she shrugged, her face turning pink as I slowly leaned towards her.
“You mean…this?” I whispered just before planting my lips on hers.
She kissed back immediately, grabbing the back of my head with one hand and the front of my robe with the other.
Her lips parted, forcing me to part mine and she probed my mouth instantly. Her tongue intertwined with mine in a passionate hunger for pleasure.
Our breaths ragged as she pulled me downward, her back falling on the bed with me on top.
Her hands found the knot of my robe before I could attend to her own dress.
She was really into it!
I knelt above her, her legs trapped between my knees as we continued to kiss. She threw my robe apart and immediately found my cock.
I grunted into her mouth.
My hands found her breasts and I didn't hesitate to fondle them through her shirt.
I finally parted my lips from hers but quickly closed it on her collar bone. Her soft moan rang into my ears
With her hand guiding me, I lowered my head towards her right breast while pulling her shirt open.
“Conrad…” she moaned as I pulled her shirt to the side, exposing her pink lach bra.
“Conrad…” she said, this time a bit more firmly. Her hands were now on my shoulders, trying to push me off.
I rose and looked at her with a strange look.
“What's wrong?” I asked with furrowed eyebrows.
“You really don't sense it?” She asked, her eyes searching mine.
“Sense what?” I asked, getting more confused than ever.
“Our mate bond, Conrad. We're mates!”
Skylar.I took a step back as the wolves closed in around us. All sounds had zoned out, leaving the echoes of my heartbeat for me to hear—thundering underneath my chest. I couldn't even feel my left hand because Conrad's grip was so tight around it.A loud snarl escaped the wolves and I reached for Conrad's arm with my free hand. I gave him a worried look as he faced me. But he, surprisingly, gave me a warm smile and held the back of my hand reassuringly. What was he so hopeful about? Couldn't he see that this was the end?The revving of engines filled the air, stealing my attention and that of the wolves. In an instant, a car drove in, its tires spraying off sand and debris as it drifted along the woods. It turned sharply and hit the first wolf before it could react. I gasped sharply as the wolf was sent flying into a tree bark and a bone-snapping sound erupted. It didn't stop there and hit the next wolf who made a little attempt to jump but still got hit, ending up in the same predi
Skylar..“What are you talking about?” I asked, my tone high-pitched.He gestured for me to come to him and I heaved a sigh before doing so. I rolled my eyes as he grinned at me.“What is it?”“Would you relax and listen! There's a wolfsbane spray can in here, meaning we have a chance of escape.” He said and I narrowed my eyes on the cereal-laden plate. There was an obvious bump that showed there was truly something beneath.“So? How do we get out of here with one spray can? I may not be from your pack but I'm pretty sure there are about a million guards lurking around!” I pointed out, my tone dropping with sarcasm.Conrad chuckled and I was hit with befuddlement.“We're not going to fight the entire pack guards. We just need to get past a few—the ones who'd be present at the ritual in about an hour.” He said and I breathed, my nervousness heightening. He slid his hand over mine through the bars and looked straight into my eyes. I felt calmness wash over me even though I didn't want
Skylar.“Look at you, still as weak as you used to be, a worthless reminder of your insignificance in my pack all those years.” Alpha Caleb said, his lips upturned in pure disgust. An expression I was so familiar with.“To think you'd have grown to steer away from trouble after all these years. Pfft, I can't believe I overestimated you. You'll never be sensible, always jumping from one trouble to another. I cannot even begin to fathom how you got yourself into trouble of this magnitude!” He chided, his eyes blazing. He moved closer to my cell, glaring into my eyes. I gasped, fighting off the tears that danced at the edge of my eyelids.“You remember how useless you were back in my pack? How we had to put you to warriors’ quarters cleaning duty just so you could earn your place in the pack.” His tone dripped with taunt, reminding me of my painful days.“You couldn't even do that without causing more trouble. You had to walk in on your superiors in their private moment. Not just private
Skylar..The dim light in the dungeon cell flickered, making my head spin and the space feel even smaller, more suffocating.Conrad's expression had been that of concern earlier but it turned to stormy the moment I dropped the news about Alpha Griffith’s plan. His jaw tightened like he'd been hit with a bolt of lightning.I watched him keenly, trying to untangle the knot of anger and doubt around my heart. Part of me wanted to lash out, to demand answers about my mother, but another part—the part tied to our bond—held me back, whispering that he couldn't be that monster."Conrad,” I drawled, “what's the ritual really about?" I pressed, my voice steadier than I felt. "You're making me nervous with the way you're acting."He stopped pacing and gripped the bars between us, his knuckles turning white. He said nothing for a long moment, he just stared at the floor as if debating how much to reveal. Finally, he swallowed hard, his Adam's apple moving in his neck. "It's called the Soulscour
Conrad..“Oh goddess! That's Master Conrad!”“He's back!”“He's unbelievable! After abandoning his pack, he just waltzes in?”I ignored the voices of my pack members as I walked through the massive compound towards the pack house. My home.I had pushed down every ounce of apprehension in my heart and I was only filled with determination.Today, I got my mate back.“Hold it right there, Master Conrad!” A young guard said, holding his hand forward as I approached the entrance.I paid him no attention and walked past him but he shocked me by holding my shoulder. My brows furrowed and my wolf growled in fury. Then I shocked the guard by grabbing his arm and throwing him over my shoulder. I heard his bones crack as he crashed on the floor before me.Stepping over him, I walked into my domain. My grandfather's—point of correction. The reception hall was empty, save for Lexi, the receptionist whose attention was stolen by her computer.I walked into the elevator and clicked the fourth floor
Skylar..My heart continued to pound like a war drum in my chest, Clyde's words resounding in my ears like a horrible tale I couldn't shake off."And did he tell you he holds your mother captive?" It couldn't be true. Conrad would never do that, he just wouldn't. How was I supposed to believe that the man who'd looked at me like I was his whole world, who'd run away from everything for me was holding my mother prisoner? No. Clyde was lying, he had to be. That's what Conrad had warned me about his nature—cunning, manipulative, always playing angles. But the way Clyde had said it, with the way his eyes glinted with the smugness of a devil who enjoyed inflicting pain on others, like he knew it would shatter me... it planted a seed of doubt I found hard to uproot.Standing up, I paced the room, the cold tiled floor biting into my bare feet, but I barely felt it. My breath felt labored as the walls of the room seemed closer now, the air thicker with the scent of polished wood and distant
