Rebecca

Like an iron clasp, the man's fingers clamped around my arm. For a second the world narrowed to the pressure at my wrist and the bile crawling up my throat.

He growled near my ear, "Drop the case." “Drop it, or we end this tonight.”

My other hand moved to my hip's small leather sheath. The dagger was there, slim and reliable. I carried it, thank the moon goddess.

“You don’t get to tell me what to do,” I murmured, attempting to keep my calm in order to grab the dagger.

His laugh was a short, unpleasant sound devoid of humor. "You believe courts and paper will save you? You are nothing. You will be burned alive by your father.

He gripped more tightly. Pain flashed, intense and immediate. I refrained from screaming. There was no space in me for a scream. My fingertips found the dagger’s hilt.

"Last opportunity," he growled.

"Let go," I said, sounding less like a plea and more like a warning.

He didn't. I snatched the dagger in one fast stroke and slammed it into his hand.

  • Cursed Luna   Her face

Rebecca There was a subtle scent of disinfectant and herbs in the hospital hallways. Clara accompanied me on our walk to Vega's room. When I saw her through the open door, my chest constricted. Her hair was unkempt, her arm was bandaged, and she was sitting erect on the bed. "Rebecca," she said softly in a whisper. Despite the tightness in my throat, I grinned. "Hey, you obstinate wolf. At last, you made the decision to awaken. "Well, I couldn't sleep indefinitely." She replied. Clara gave me a quick look. "Go ahead. Inform her. Vega scowled slightly. "What can you tell me?" I moved in closer till I was at her bedside. "We prevailed," I muttered. Her eyes grew wide. “What?” From behind me, Clara murmured, "The trial." It's finished. Jake was given a life sentence without the possibility of release. Additionally, Kate has also been arrested. Vega blinked quickly as the words registered. "Oh, and I thought your dad would be dead by now. If I ever saw him, I'd be glad he's i

  • Cursed Luna   Rebecca's pov

Rebecca Swiftly gathering herself, Kate brushed a lock of hair behind her ear. She simply remarked, "You see, Your Honor, this is what I lived with for years." That anger, that fury. It is not surprising that he turned to violence. With his teeth clenched, my father scowled up at me; the wolfsbane was weakening him. "You believe you've won, Rebecca? Do you believe that joining this company will help you become someone? You are nothing. With a quiet but sharp voice, I moved closer. "No, Dad. I am everything that you could never be. Clara moved forward once again. "Your Honor, I think this behavior says a lot about his personality and the threat he poses to people." Our accusations are overwhelmingly supported by the bank records, the forensic evidence, and Mrs. Davis's testimony. The judge adjusted his spectacles. "I concur." He faced the bailiff. "Make sure the suspect is appropriately restrained." It didn't matter that my father was still growling under his breath. His voice wa

  • Cursed Luna   Rebecca's pov

RebeccaI could practically taste the irony in Kate's smile as she took her oath."Mrs. Davis, you were mute at the start of this case, but now you've stepped forward to speak," the judge remarked. What led you to make this choice?Kate neatly folded her hands. She pretended to be sincere so effectively that I was nearly amazed when she said, "My conscience." "I was unable to witness him trash what was properly Rebecca's."Anger blazed in my father's eyes. You're not telling the truth. She is lying, your honor! He let out a loud cry.She turned and grinned icily at him. "Am I? Now that you've been discovered and trapped, all you're doing is trying to hide your tracks.Clara arose, her voice clearly audible throughout the courtroom, her look composed but sharp. She turned to face Kate and started asking questions."Mrs. Davis, could you verify that you are related to the defendant?"Kate gave a small smile. "He is my spouse."Clara gave a nod. "And how long have you and Mr. Davis been

  • Cursed Luna   Her next job

Rebecca We were meeting with my stepmother today because she said she had something for us, and the trial was set for tomorrow. She had better. It was in the same quiet teahouse that we first met her. This time, Clara remained still and vigilant by the doorway, and I sat down by the window as usual. With a fitted black suit, gold jewelry, and a smirk that suggested she still had the upper hand, Kate entered the room looking like she had just stepped off the cover of a magazine. How ironic. This time, she didn't bother to say hello. "Rebecca," she murmured in a tight voice. "You're early." I gave a small smile. "You're running late." "To me, time is only a social construct." She uttered those words. "Well done, but let's save time." Kate crossed her legs and sat down elegantly. She slid the thin black folder she had brought across the table after opening it. "Everything you requested. Evidence that the business is not his, including phony corporations and offshore accounts I

  • Cursed Luna   The secret

RebeccaIt was a long night, too long. No matter how many times I closed my eyes, I was unable to fall asleep. The pounding in my chest was far worse than the aches in my body. The sound of that explosion kept coming back to me as my mind continued to repeat everything. When I eventually got up, I saw Clara sitting at the little desk near the corner, her fingers fidgeting restlessly over her phone, her hair now pulled free."She hasn't said anything yet?" Silently, I asked. Startled to see me awake, she looked up and moaned. "She observed it. the recording, after which she gave it two listens."And?" "No response." I let out a slow breath. "She is contemplating." Clara clarified, "She's panicking."And that's beneficial to us. She's either attempting to clear her path or determine which side to support. She glared at me, but I forced myself off the bed and grabbed my jacket. "So we have to give her a choice.""Are you certain you're capable of doing this?" "I have no other option." Ign

  • Cursed Luna   Clara

RebeccaIn an instant, I turned. "Who is present?" I yelled, but nobody answered. This time, the sound was more acute. A clang of metal that sliced through the darkness. She murmured, "Someone's here," and began to move forward in a slow, cautious manner.I could hear Clara's heartbeat quicken. As if it were a shield, she held the notepad close to her chest. "Your father, he knew we were coming." She whispered, "He knew."My heart fell. “What?”Next, I smelled something. It smelled like charred iron, faint, metallic, and a little sour. Vega gestured for us to leave while keeping an eye on every shadow. "Stay close," she urged.A person scurried between two crate piles. Even though it was only a blur, I managed to catch it. "Over there!" Vega sprang when I pointed, striking her boots against the wood with enough force to create an echo. She yelled, "Stop!" with a captain's command in her voice that caused even me to stop for a heartbeat. For a little while, the man froze, but she only
