Lana’s POV

I held the tray close to my chest as I stepped out of the elevator and walked toward the rooftop entrance.

The floor was quiet, the kind of quiet that made me second-guess whether I was even supposed to be here.

I could already feel the heat from the pool area before I pushed the door open, and when I finally stepped out, the sight in front of me made me freeze.

Jace was in the pool.

His back was to me at first, his arms slicing through the water in slow, controlled movements.

His shoulders moved with ease, water sliding over his skin as he swam to the other end. When he turned, his face came into view, calm and focused.

His hair was pushed back and droplets kept dropping down his face. He dove under, came up again, and pushed his hand through his hair like he didn’t have the entire world staring at him.

Well… not the world.

Just me.

I couldn’t stop staring. The man looked good. He always did, but something about seeing him without his suit, without the hardness he car

Lana’s POV I spread the contents of the woman's purse across the low table— notes, photos, small papers folded and folded, initials written in neat, dangling handwriting.Jace told me that I should sleep but I can't, after seeing the man and how everything is now clicking that we are in real danger, so he left me to lay on the couch, trying to catch some sleep but he didn't because he was actively watching me but didn't bother opening his eyes.I picked up one sheet, squinting at the scribbles, my stomach tightened the moment I saw it. The initials, names I recognized. Women who had gone missing in the past years, months, and the way the letters were paired with dates and locations made my stomach drop further.I tried to steady myself and I called out to Jace. “These women…. these are the women” I said softly. My hands trembled as I held the paper. "These are the ones she said were in danger and some of them were reported in the news. My company supported the fund that was raised t

Lana’s POV The atmosphere in the suite was still heavy when we returned. My chest felt tight from everything we had uncovered and even with what happened in the cabin room, Jace was silent, I knew his mind was working faster than mine. He paced once, checking his phone then finally sat down like he was forcing himself to stay calm.I was still holding the purse we found. The evidence inside felt like it burned through the leather. I keep repeating everything she said to me at the dinner table in my mind. We didn't speak for a while.Jace's phone rang. His expression shifted the moment he looked at the caller ID. His eyes turned instantly colder than usual.“Who is that?" I said going closer to him.“The investor".One word and I knew it was dangerous. I didn't say anything but told Jace to put the call on speaker and record. He picked up with a calm tone that didn't match the tension in his jaw. “Hello," he said.I leaned slightly forward, I didn't need to hear the voice to know

Lana’s POV We began to look for anything that could help us in our search. Jace asked me to describe the woman's facial expressions, what she was wearing and how she looked during the dinner and the strange behavior from the other man that came with the investor in which I answered truthfully as I could remember.I paused at some I couldn't, which he would notice my restlessness but he allowed it, he was thinking too because his jaw was tight.“I think we should look around too," I said, after finishing my description. He glanced at me, raising an eyebrow. “And you think sneaking into the hotel staff office is the way to start?" I swallowed hard. “It's a start we need to see if there's any footage from earlier. If someone's watching them, or them watching someone".He considered this for a moment then nodded. The small motion made me glad. He trusted me, I had a plan and he was willing to follow it. We moved quietly, slipping through the corridors of the hotel, I could feel my puls

Lana’s POV The suite was quiet, I could hear the clock tick louder and as if time were slow. Jace is making dinner again, tagging it as an apology for the fight and me rushing out without taking anything.I told him not to, that I am fine, but you can't talk him out of something he puts his mind to do, so I allowed him to do what he wants while I sat on the sofa, enjoying the quietness that comes with it.I felt his presence before I heard him move.He didn't sit across the table, not in the formal, distant way he often did. Instead, he lowered himself onto the sofa beside me, close enough that I could feel the heat radiating from him. He was now relaxed, calm and his gaze fixed on me.“I can see your eyes watching me before I came and now you're pretending not to notice that I am here with you Lana. You need to work on your deception games". I swallowed. Words stuck in my throat. I was caught red-handed and I can't hold them in any longer. The woman's eyes, her words, the whispers

Lana’s POV Jace arrived at the suite with a tight expression on his face, which was impossible to ignore; his jaw was clenched, and his eyes locked on me the moment he stepped inside. “You embarrassed me tonight” his voice was low, but each word carried the weight of anger I could feel.I clenched my fists. “I didn't embarrass you” I said slowly, for him to get the intention “I was protecting you from the danger I saw”.He stared at me, disbelief flashing across his face. “Protect me? From him? You stormed out in the middle of a business dinner Lana! Which was unacceptable and made me look unprofessional”.“Unprofessional?” I shot back, my nerves spiked. “Like someone who doesn't care about the possibility of danger? That's exactly what I was trying to tell you!” His eyebrows shot up. “They were harmless. I didn't notice anything you noticed”.I took a deep breath, steadying myself. “The woman at the table. She whispered to me— she said we're in danger, that they're going to take u

Lana’s POV I can't do it. I can't focus. We're in danger, I just couldn’t shake off the fear in her eyes. Her words kept replaying. Something felt off, I kept wondering.I leaned again towards Jace. “Wwe have a problem. I think someone's in danger. Right here”.“Not now” he said, narrowing his eyes. “Focus on why we are here Lana”.Not now? His tone was sharp and impatient, he said as if I was a nuisance.“I'm not joking!” I hissed, leaning closer. “Someone needs help, please you have to listen”.“Lana, behave!” His voice snapped this time. And it made my blood run hot. I felt shock run through me, I wanted to move, to scream to show him but I can't.I stood up abruptly, the chair scraped against the floor. The clatter loud, all eyes turned to me.I could feel their stares, womdering, amused, curious but I didn't care. I don't care, not when someone, maybe more than one person, is in danger.“I can't sit here” my voice was trembling. “This isn't what I came here for”.Jace's expressi
