Hospitalized!

"What's wrong Baby, talk to me." Sierra urged the little girl lying down almost lifeless on the hospital bed. Her eyes were almost half closed and with every breath she took, it felt like she was fighting for her life.

"Sierra, I can't breathe" Nora's voice came out in a low wheezing tone. She was struggling through the oxygen tube that was being administered to her. Sierra was on her way to work when she got a phone call from the hospital telling her that there was an emergency and her sister's condition had taken a turn for the worse. Things had gone critical, more to the point of deteriorating.

Three years ago, their lives went upside down when her father who was the supposed senator of the state, embezzled a huge sum of money and was laid off from his office. If anyone had told her that her once princess life would come crashing down one day, she'd never have believed it but look at her now. What's even worse is that her entire family's name had been blacklisted in the country.

With no where else to go, her family made a decision to run away and live somewhere far. Her father's stupid mistake had cost them her life and that of her sister who was battling with a cancerous liver disease that required surgery. Her mother on the other hand couldn't handle the news of them going broke so she ran away, leaving her to carry the burden of her failed marriage alone.

At first, when Sierra saw the papers that confirmed what her father had done, she didn't believe it until it was circulating round the internet and that's when it hit her. The idea of carrying a baggage that constantly reminded her of his mistakes didn't sit well with her but what could she do? Nora's sickness had only gotten worse. Over the years, she had tried to raise some money for surgery but so far, luck wasn't shining down on her. Her wealthy friends had deserted her as well and now she's scared that she would loose her little sister.

"Don't worry baby." She kissed her forehead. "You'll be fine I promise" Her eyes had become misty but she struggled to stay strong. She won't cry or break down in front of her. Nora didn't like it when she cried.

"You are so stubborn and yes, I promise to scold you later but please don't die on me alright?" Sierra warned sternly even though deep down, she was already falling apart. This was more than she could bear and sadly, she knew that it wasn't the end of it.

The door to her sister's ward flew open and a nurse came in to inject her a syringe. Sierra watched as her sister writhed in pain and the fact that she couldn't do anything to help made her feel utterly useless.

"Excuse me" She called out to the nurse as they both stepped outside her ward. "My sister, h-how is she now?" She could barely finish her sentence as she broke down in more tears.

"We've tried our best to subdue her. The doctors are busy at the moment so I'm afraid you'll have to wait a while." The nurse responded pitifully.

"She needs urgent treatment. She could die" She said with a huge lump in her throat. "Please do something. Don't leave her like this."

"I'm sorry ma'am but there's nothing more I can do for you. I promise to alert a doctor as soon as he's free but first, we can only observe."

Sierra nodded as she watched the nurse walk away almost immediately. She tried to wipe her tears but was failing miserably at it. Wiping the tears off her face aggressively, she made her way back to her sister's room.

"Sierra?" Nora called out sleepily.

She pretended to be fine and ecstatic "You're awake? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you Bunny. I was having a little chat with the nurse."

"Did I startle you?" She asked in a faint and fragile voice.

"Is that even a question? I almost died of an heart attack." Sierra smiled through her tears, lightening up the mood a little. She was heartbroken inside but she would put up a smile for her sister if she had to.

Nora raised up her shaky hands and touched her cheek lovingly "I promised that I would take care of you so I can't die. How much did you cry?"

"I didn't cry" Sierra lied through her teeth as the tears stung her eyes, threatening to fall.

"I know you Sierra. Your...eyes are heav-y which meant that yo-u had been crying." She said through short breaths. Her eyes dazed as though they were about to shut close on their own.

"I'm alright now that you're awake." She squeezed her frail hands in comfort and just then, she was alerted that the doctor would like to see her.

After making sure that Nora was comfortable, she trailed after the nurse till they arrived at the doctor's office. She was allowed inside the open space and he offered her a seat which she took gratefully.

"How are you holding up Sierra?" He went further to ask. The doctor was a family friend when her father was still the Senator. He was practically the only one who hasn't given up on them yet.

"Will Nora be okay? Tell me that my sister has a chance at surviving." She said In response to his greetings.

"We've been through this over and over again Sierra." He reminded her and went further to take off his glasses "She needs an hepatectomy and so far, we can't proceed because your father hasn't deposited any money for her treatment yet."

"But he told me that he'd do something about it" Her voice came out in a shaky whisper of anger and disappointment. "He promised that he would."

"Well he hasn't and I certainly can't do anything about it. The only reason she's even allowed to stay here this long is because of the friendship we both shared between us otherwise it's against the hospital's policy." He went further to add.

Just then, the door flew open and Reya walked in with Dean, her boyfriend. Sierra hurriedly flew into her arms and she patted her back softly in comfort.

"How is she? Hope we aren't too late?" Reya asked, placing a soft kiss by the side of her hair.

Sierra shook her head vehemently "No you're not. Thanks for being here. Both of you." She added, regarding Dean as well. She wasn't expecting him to be here but she was grateful that they still came regardless.
